We now have... 18 out of 25 melodies guessed. That's 1 more than before. Better than 0, I suppose?

There's one unguessed melody in here that four of you probably should have gotten already. At least one of you has mentioned that it sounds familiar, which is a good sign. Trust your instincts; if something sounds like you know it, you probably do.

Nearly everyone who has already guessed so far is capable of getting at least one more, and I imagine if none of you get any more, quite a few of you will be rather upset--some of you far more than others. Just as a little foreshadowing for the results post...

The scores are very close. It's still anyone's game.

Updates to the hints and the scoreboard are below:

Hints
  • Other than Mario, Kirby, Pokémon, and Zelda, no franchises or games are repeated.
  • The remaining unguessed melodies at this point (5, 6, 8, 10, 14, 20, 22) are all from games playable on Nintendo systems. All of them except one are Nintendo exclusives.
  • Last round, I had about 10 tracks that were in Smash. This time, I only have 4. Only one person knows all of them.
  • For three of the four main series, there is one track left unguessed. For the fourth, there are two tracks left. In other words, no series has been completely guessed out yet.
  • One of the remaining unguessed melodies is being played by an erhu.

Note: The Mario series includes games starring any set of characters in the Mario universe, including Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Captain Toad, and the like.

By the way, for anyone who didn't see my post before the start of the round: the bonus track is a melody that one of the YouTubers that I am subscribed used in a video, but he did not list the source for that one track. I don't actually know what it is, but I put it on as a bonus with the hopes that somebody else would know it. So far, it seems like nobody does.

When you say "playable on Nintendo consoles," does this imply that they aren't exclusive to Nintendo consoles?

All right, how's this, then:

The remaining unguessed melodies at this point (5, 6, 8, 10, 14, 20, 22) are all from games playable on Nintendo systems. All of them except one are Nintendo exclusives.

EDIT: Yes, not including the bonus.

And I guess that doesn't include the bonus since no one knows it lol

And now time for a third update (and possibly the final one unless a few more people arrive). kenniky has notified me that he'll be posting his quiz tomorrow sometime during the night, so I'll let guesses for this quiz run until around 5:00 PM Thursday afternoon (EST). Some of you could probably use the time to see if you could get a little more...

As of now, there are 19 out of 25 melodies guessed. Once again, that's 1 more than the last update (in particular, #14 was the one that got recognized).

Scores are even closer now. If you want to know exactly how close... the current top 4 scorers are all within 2 points of each other.

I've added quite a few hints in regard to the unguessed ones below, so take a look:

Hints
  • Other than Mario, Kirby, Pokémon, and Zelda, no franchises or games are repeated.
  • Last round, I had about 10 tracks that were in Smash. This time, I only have 4. Two people know all of them.
Hints regarding the currently unguessed melodies (5, 6, 8, 10, 20, 22):
  • One of them is from a Mario game in which Mario is the main character.
  • One of them is from a game that takes place in the Mario universe but in which Mario is not a playable character.
  • One of them is from a Kirby game.
  • One of them is from a Pokémon game.
  • One of them is from a Zelda game.
  • One of them from some random other series. It is playable on a Nintendo system (may or may not be a Nintendo exclusive).
  • One of those six is being played by an erhu.

...#25 hasn't turned purple yet. That makes me a little sad.

On the other hand, I suppose the blue color is fitting... if you know what I mean.

EDIT: One more note. When listening back on the original tracks, I noticed that the part I transcribed in #5 actually appears to be played in straight eighths even though the rest of the instruments are playing in swing at the same time. However, very soon afterwards the same melody is repeated by a different instrument in swing (i.e. how I notated it), except it is tranposed an octave down. Thus, I've changed the melody in my quiz to be an octave lower. I doubt it will make a difference to anyone, but I just thought I'd point it out and fix it before someone criticized my transcription after hearing the original.

TL;DR transpose #5 an octave down and get rid of the first grace note

I've decided to instead post the answers at 12:00 PM (noon) EST tomorrow instead of at 5:00 due to some... growing impatience for the answers. (You know who you are.) I was holding out a bit longer in the hopes that some more guessers who normally participate would show up for this round... but it seems unlikely that they'll join in at this point. On the other hand, I did receive some answers from a couple more members whom I did not expect to participate, which is certainly not a bad thing...

By the way, you know what's funny? When people use songs from one game in their melody quiz and then I do another track from the same game and then they don't know it.

I would go look for the "reading is hard" quote but I think that's been milked a little too much by this point

If enough people insist I might as well post them tonight but I think a few people might be able to use a little extra time this evening

1. I insist you post the answers tonight. The sooner I find out number 5, the sooner I can kick myself for not figuring it out.

2. I just noticed that you consider 5:00 PM afternoon...
