Diddy Kong Racing Need Help

   If any of you have beaten the first part of story mode, where you can fight Wizpig, please give me advice on what I should do. I'm at the Green Village place, at the race through the town where you have to collect all silver coins and come in first(it's that level with the well and the village), I always found it ridiculously difficult when I was younger, neither I nor my older brother could ever beat it. If I beat it, then I can race the dragon for the final time, then fight Wizpig. So if any of you have any advice on how to beat that level, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Also, I did end up beating the race, except right when the genie was handing Diddy the balloon, the game locked up. It also corrupted the entire file. So I need to start a new file.

Apparently I can start a new file and beat the game in one day...
