Gust not being flying type was one of the strangest things about R/B/Y. It makes Viridian Forest a little harder because Gust won't tear through all the bugs like it should. It's kinda sad that I don't even remember my first teams through Blue so I really don't remember who were the best Pokemon to train at the start.

I took your advice and dropped Beedrill, now I'm training Nidoran(F). My brother's got Nidoran(M) in his Red version right now, so it's cool.

I prefer Nidoqueen to Nidoking anyway. They're both pretty beast though.

Nice switch.

I personally prefer Nidoking because he's smarter, funnier, and he's better at sports.

I evolved my Nidoqueen as soon as I could so it could learn Body Slam at Lv23. Not like it gets good moves anyway.

My brother did the same with his Nidoking.

Anyway, status update:
Cerulean City, battled 4/5 Nugget Bridge people, not faced the Gym Leader yet.
Team:
Ivysaur Lv19
Nidoqueen Lv19
Pikachu Lv19

Here's what I'm thinking for the rest of my team:

Meowth--it's pretty bad in this game, but relatively easy to train, and can learn a few good TMs. Plus, Pikachu and Meowth on the same team is coool. Was thinking Clefairy as well, but Meowth is cooler.

Omanyte--I really don't NEED this one since Nidoqueen can learns Surf (it already knows Water Gun lol), but Waters are always nice to have, and Omastar is really sweet. My brother's training a Kabuto, too, so.

Abra--Psychic-types are really good, and this beats Hypno, I think.

Here's what my brother's final team is going to be--
Venusaur
Nidoking
Pikachu/Raichu
Kabutops
Graveler/Golem (not sure if we can trade)
Hitmonlee

So, really if we wanted to do this "properly", I should choose Omanyte, Abra, and Hitmonchan.

Any thoughts?

Whenever he catches (or is) a cat Pokemon, he nicknames it Meowmix. He thinks it's his signature name, then got mad when he found out there was a cat food named that.
