Site News / Forum Upgrade
December 06, 2023, 08:04:32 AM
Hello everyone!

Today we performed a long overdue upgrade of the forum to a newer version. The first thing you'll notice is that it has a responsive layout, which is a welcome improvement. The NSM Panel has also undergone a facelift as well as some major under-the-hood changes which will make it possible to push out updates and new features more easily in the future. A big thanks to @cacabish for helping out!

Here is a summary of the new features and other things you might need to know:

  • Your profile is now accessed via the little picture in the top left corner. Next to that is the icon for PMs and then the bell for notifications, which can be received for various things (eg topics, replies, mentions, etc). Settings are in their respective popups.
  • Two-factor authentication (2FA) can be enabled in the "Account Settings" page in the profile menu.
  • You can now @ mention other users! If you are @ mentioned, you'll receive a notification.
  • Drafts are enabled for posts and will autosave every 30 seconds. No more lost posts! Drafts are also enabled for PMs but you'll need to manually save those with the "Save Draft" button.
  • If you prefer, WYSIWYG mode for posting can be activated via the "Look and Layout" profile settings page.
  • Everyone's timezone has been reset, so you will need to go into your profile and update it. The good news is that it now takes care of daylight savings time automatically.
  • I know the staff badges are missing. I'll sort it out tomorrow.

I think that's all the important stuff. Let me know if you have any questions or if any issues arise.

Site News / A Fabulous New Makeover
July 21, 2021, 01:22:04 AM
Ta-daaaa! Today, thanks to Shampoodle Shamdeku, NinSheetMusic is getting a little makeover. The first thing you'll notice is the new hairdo colour scheme. Now you could say was done to improve visual harmony between the layout and the updated banner & logos etc etc, but really we just wanted to look FABULOUS!! I mean, who doesn't? Speaking of fabulous, we also felt that the "Other" page had spent too long lurking in the shadows and it was their time to shine. So we draaaagggged them out into the spotlight and ooooohhhhh, don't they look marvelous? And now the staff have all got their shiny badges out on display too! Whew, all this fabulousness is almost too much to bear...

There were some other, small, not-so-stylish changes that are hardly worth mentioning here but they will prepare us for future new hairdos updates, so stay tuned for more fabulousness!

Happy browsing!

Summary of changes:
- New colour scheme
- Markup improvements
- Fonts are now local
- Staff badges now appear on news posts
- Consoles are now listed with each game when browsing sheets. Clicking on the console name will link you to the console page
- "Other" now stands out a little more on the series list page and quick browse, in addition to being moved to the bottom of both places

Today, we celebrate NinSheetMusic's 15th birthday: Hip-hip hooray!

I wasn't too sure what to say but it got me thinking: 15 years is quite a long time for a website, especially one for video game sheet music. In that time, many vgm sheet music sites have come and gone, as have countless arrangers and performers. And yet somehow, despite our ups and downs, here we are still chugging along. I've been here for nearly 10 years, which isn't as long as some, but in that time many arrangers and performers have come through here. It's been a privilege to see them grow and in many cases, take what they've learned here and go on to do bigger and better things. Jamaha put it perfectly in a previous birthday post when he wrote: "It feels good to help people play music from the games they love." So here's to another 15 years and more!

Enough speeches, it's time for the champagne and presents! To celebrate our 15th birthday, we're unveiling our new site design! Yes it's been a long time coming but after months of work and plenty of revisions, it's finally here. A big thankyou to all the staff who road tested it and provided feedback. It wouldn't have been possible without you. We still have many more features and improvements on the to-do list so stay tuned for more in the future but for now I think I need a holiday!

Here's a brief run-down of the new features and general improvements.
  • It's responsive! So now you can finally browse on whatever device you like without having to squint or zoom in.
  • Your forum login now carries over to the main site. For those who are logged in, you'll see your username and you get a little user menu panel. At the moment this doesn't do a whole lot, but we have things planned for it. But it does give you a nice little notification if you've received a PM.
  • We have support for swipe detection on touch devices. So if you do a quick right swipe from the left edge of the screen you can open the mobile menu. If you are logged in, you can do a quick left swipe from the right edge of the screen to open the user panel.
  • For those on desktop computers, or devices with larger screens, you can use the Quick Browse feature. Just click on the yellow sign which hangs from the menu bar to open a menu that enables you to quickly jump to any series, console, or arranger page.
  • Sheet lists are now collapsible. We might make a user setting for this in the future.

Site News / New Series
April 06, 2019, 04:04:18 PM
Hi everyone!

Time for a proper announcement! Over the next few days we'll be gradually adding some more series. This should make some games easier to find and will also reduce the size of some of the longest pages. So if you can't find a game all of a sudden, chances are it has found a new home. The 'Other' and 'Super Mario' pages will be the only ones affected at this stage.

We are also preparing for *topseekritbigannouncement* in the next week or two so stay tuned for more!

Story Telling / A New Discovery! [April Fools 2019]
March 31, 2019, 10:00:29 PM
Greetings NSM'ers!

Today I am writing to inform you of a new historic find which we have unearthed following months of exploratory work by the staff here at NinSheetMusic. Indeed, we have uncovered a missing section of the banner! This find will certainly rewrite the history books and we're very excited to be able to share the fruits of our labour with you today. But enough excitement from me, first let me explain how it was that we came upon this find.

It was a regular day in the NSM office: sheets were being checked, the mods were polishing the banhammer, I had just eaten my 64th banana for the day and Latios had fallen asleep in one of our many saunas. All of a sudden there was a loud cry... Bespinben had finally opened the Campbell's soup can!! ...hold on a minute, that doesn't sound right. Ahem, where was I? Oh yes, in a flurry of excitement, Latios came running and gathered everyone around. He said that a voice had spoken to him in a dream telling him that there was a missing section of the banner and that as the chosen one, it was his job to find the original Banner Tapestry and restore it to its rightful place. We weren't too sure at first, I mean the whole thing just sounded like some kind of prank. But Latios was truly convinced that the voice was real. He said it sounded deep and magnificent, like a voice from the heavens. Maybe even Morgan Freeman himself! Well that settled it: we would have to go on an expedition to find the original Banner Tapestry and solve the mystery. We consulted the maps and following the mysterious voice's instructions, we charted a course to a distant place across the seas known as Doko Cove. From there we would then go in search of the first Temple of NinSheetMusic.

So it was that on the 32nd of Demisember the staff of NinSheetMusic embarked on its inaugural archaeological expedition, with enough supplies of Belgian Cheese to last twelve months, courtesy of Concerto. After a teary farewell from Zeta and a performance of the Wind's Requiem conducted by Maestro, we set off with a favourable wind in our sails.

No journey is without its hiccups and ours was no different. A brief encounter with pirates almost put a premature stop to our voyage but we manned the cannons and defended our ship with honour. It turns out that Dudeman is quite the silver gunner! On a few occasions we almost ran straight into a maelstrom but he apologised for not looking where he was going.

Our arrival at Doko Cove marked the beginning of our journey into uncharted territory. From here on we would only have the voice of G-Han to guide us, channelled by our spirit guide Jamaha. So with our packs full and Jamaha comfortably relaxing in a portable sauna (it took four of us to carry him!!!) we pressed on into the dense jungle.

To cut an otherwise lengthy, protracted, extended, sprawling, prolonged, drawn out, unending, long-winded and somewhat repetitive story short, we did eventually find the temple. But when we searched inside, the tapestry wasn't there! It had gone! Vanished! All that endless wandering, all that Belgian cheese, and all those freezing nights with nothing to comfort us except our sheets, only to hit a dead end? No, it couldn't be, there had to be more. This wasn't some hideous Hollywood cliché, this was serious business. Fortunately the temple was quite comfy and rather well stocked so we just sat around and played Smash and had ourselves a grand ol' time. How did an ancient ruin on a deserted island come equipped with Smash, you wonder? Don't ask silly questions!

We did eventually decide that it was time to draw our expedition to a close and return home. The journey back was an uneventful one. We didn't see any pirates and we didn't even run into any maelstroms (oh dear, I hope we didn't leave him behind). Upon our return we were greeted by Zeta, who seemed unsurprised that our expedition was fruitless but we didn't think much of it. We were tired and just wanted to rest. That it is until a few days later when Latios called a secret meeting. He had remembered seeing a rainbow hair at the temple and suddenly it hit us all: there is only one person around here with rainbow hair...

Well the good news is that after some heavy interrogation by the mods and numerous threats of using the freshly polished banhammer, Zeta did eventually admit that she had the tapestry the whole time. Apparently she thought we were in need of some sunshine and fresh air after spending countless years up to our necks in sheets (Is Zeta suggesting that we smell? Preposterous! I assure you that we all smell absolutely divine. In fact, next month we will be unveiling our new name, NinSheetMusk).

With the mystery solved and the tapestry recovered we are proud to announce that we are finally able to display the full banner in all its glory! With 10 extra lines of never-before-seen pixels, I'm sure the NSM scholars will be hailing the significance of this find for many years to come. Who knew those hands had wrists? Unheard of. Simply mind boggling.

Once again I am truly excited to share this find with all of you today and I hope you will take the time to admire our newly updated banner.

Sincerely,
Deku

Site News / NSM is now in HTTPS!
September 02, 2018, 01:38:20 AM
Hi NSMers!

Just a quick heads up about a couple of changes that happened today. Firstly, we've finally made the long overdue migration to HTTPS. There shouldn't be any issues but if you are experiencing any problems please do let us know. The forums have also been moved to https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum. Again, there shouldn't be any issues but a couple of things might go astray as the DNS changes may take time to filter through.

And don't forget to check out Braix's performance video update from earlier today, there is some great playing there!

Last week (sorry Zeta!) was our 14th anniversary, so Happy Belated Birthday to NinSheetMusic!

Many sites have come and gone in that time and yet here we still are and I'd just like to think everyone for supporting us, whether it's through arranging, performing our arrangements or just popping in for a friendly chat. We've got some exciting changes planned for the end of this year and into next year in the lead up to our 15th birthday, so stay tuned for more updates closer to the date. In the mean time, we hope to continue bringing you plenty of sheets from our community.

Happy NSM'ing and here's to many more years to come!

Piano Arrangements / About this board
March 22, 2018, 10:49:05 PM
Welcome to the Piano Arrangements board!
(formerly Personal Arrangement Threads)

This is the place where you can share all of your piano arrangements. Each member can make one topic to house their arrangements. If you're new here or new to forums in general, take a look around and see what other arrangers have to done with their topics to give you some ideas.

Your topic is also like your own workshop where you can get help on whatever arranging problem you're having. Whether it's a transcription issue, an arranging issue or you're just stuck halfway, post it and one of our helpful community members will hopefully assist you. To those of you who are more experienced, if you see someone in need of help, don't be afraid to lend a hand. Everybody has something to offer and helping someone is a great way of broadening your horizons and honing your skills as an arranger.

For those of you looking to submit sheets to NSM (and there's no obligation to do so), we recommend that you make a topic here first to ensure your sheets are the best that they can be before you submit them.

Happy arranging!

Help! / Save Link from Extinction!
      May 09, 2015, 09:30:56 PM
This crept up on us a bit, but our old URL (ninsheetm.us) expires in about a fortnight. The majority of our sheets on site still have our old URL on them and this is a massive problem. So we need to get them fixed ASAP!!!!!!!

We need as many people to help out as possible.

      Guidelines:
      1) Only URL fixes.
      2) Upload to fixes dropbox and post all links in the other thread. This is done for streamlining reasons. We need PDF and MUS and feel free to also provide MUSX if you use 2014 to help out with some future proofing along the way.
      3) This thread is for discussing/claiming/whatever. I know there are a couple of issues that will need sorting out.

      How to fix URLs:
We just need the URL at the bottom of the sheet to be updated with our current one, just like it says in the formatting guidelines: http://www.ninsheetmusic.org/
Please, please, please use File Info (Or ScoreManager, depending on your Finale version) to do this so the text insert auto updates (if it doesn't auto update on your sheet, you'll have to add the insert yourself with Text->Inserts->Copyright Text). It makes so many things easier in the future.

If we could prioritise the more popular sheets (those with fuller popularity bars) that would be most helpful.

Help! / Help Deku Get Some Dates
      December 15, 2014, 01:11:49 AM
      Hi everyone!

I've been working on sorting options for the site and it's just about all done except for one little tiny problem. For chronological order to work, we need some release dates. This is where you come in. With over 300 games listed on the site so far this could take a while, so hopefully if everyone pitches in we'll have it done in no time.
Feel free to use this topic to discuss any issues, for example if you're having trouble finding a release date for any of the games.

      Details:
-We're looking for the earliest release date, regardless of the region.
-Please specify which date system you're using so I don't get confused (American or European) or even better, use full month names instead

Site News / Introducing Our New Submissions System
      October 15, 2014, 02:09:53 AM
Hi everyone! Today it's my pleasure to bring you our NSM's new automated submission system.

Over the past few months I've been developing our new submission system. It's main feature is that everything is automated, from submitting sheets, to accepting them and even an update queue. It should make the lives of our updaters a bit easier as we are no longer tied down with large submission threads. Our updaters also have a nice new sheet admin which means they can things on the site much more easily.

You can access all this from the new button in the forum's menu bar entitled "NSM Panel."

      Have fun!

You might be wondering what that new "NSM Panel" icon is doing in the menu bar. Well, it's our new nicely automated submission system! This guide will explain all about how to submit and edit your sheets.

      Part 1 - Submitting a New Sheet
      Part 2 - Submitting a Replacement
      Part 3 - Editing a Submission

If you have any further questions, feel free to post them here.

      Site News / Site Upgrade
      October 05, 2014, 04:58:41 AM
Today we have the first part of a site upgrade!

Most of the changes are behind the scenes, with the biggest change being a newly restructured database. For the computer nerds out there reading this, we've moved to a relational database model which is easier to maintain and upscale/modify as needed. What this basically means is that in the end it's easier to add new series and consoles and easier to add/edit sheets.

As part of today's upgrade, you'll also notice that the arranger list is now up to date (which a number of you have been asking for). This, as well as other lists will be dynamically updated from now on, so as soon as you've got your first sheet on the site, your name will magically appear on the list. You can edit your arranger name through your forum profile which will effect anywhere your name appears on the site.

If you see any issues, please let me know and I'll try and fix them as soon as possible. Happy NSMing!

Site News / Hey I'm New Here.... Well, Almost
      October 01, 2014, 07:03:06 PM
      Hey NSMers!

Most of you probably already know me for arranging and updating but from now on I'll also be doing some work on the site itself. I've got a whole bunch of exciting upgrades in the works at the moment which will take place over the next couple of months. I'll also be taking a look through the redesign suggestion threads in the feedback board to see what new features you want. So if there's anything you'd like to see on NSM, feel free to suggest it!

So stay tuned for some exciting new upgrades over the coming months and into the future.
