Quote from: Fawful on January 10, 2016, 08:44:29 PMHey guys, I just joined the site.  I came here from a Steam forum that had a similar goal that Yug_Guy found and posted to as well.  Figured I should help contribute as well; here's Reunited. (I can't figure out how you guys do the [MUS] thing, so I'll just put the URL here.)  Anything I should change?

Glad you decided to join us!

I took a look at your MUS file, and I'd say it's a pretty good start. I'm not great at critiquing music, so I'll leave that to some of our more capable arrangers. I will suggest looking over your voices and seeing what you could possibly add and/or take away from the piece. There's quite a bit going on in Reunited that you don't have in your arrangement!

That being said, you should really get your sheet up to standard. Copy what you have into this template, and be sure to replace "Title" with "Reunited" as well as putting your name where it says "Arrangement by". Once you've done that, we can start working on the actual music.

Otherwise, good first piece!

The tempo should be closer to 85 bpm, and the right hand should be down an octave.

Olimar's reaction is actually quite common. There are a bunch of people who don't like/understand Undertale until they finish a Pacifist run. Typically, most people's neutral run leave them feeling "meh." Also:
Spoiler
Am I the only one who didn't necessarily like the "talk to everyone and see how they feel about the end game"? Sure, I get that it's a tribute to Earthbound, and that there's a lot of interesting dialogue from the characters at the end, but for the most part it's poorly executed.

Firstly, Toriel's line about "talking with your friends" might come off as ambiguous if you don't know that a) this game pays a lot of tribute to Earthbound and b) the ending is the same as Earthbound's. Some people might not know that that's what the game wants them to do because they haven't heard of Earthbound or it's ending.

Second, because of the game's already tedious flaw of having a large maze-like world with only one somewhat-helpful method for fast travel, there are a ton of characters and NPC's that some people might just skip over, because they're too tedious to get to in the first place. Onion-san is probably the pinnacle of this flaw; being in a tedious-to-get-to location because of how the map is structured.

And third, and probably Undertale's biggest cardinal sin imo: Undertale's ending sequence is based purely on whether or not players want to talk to everyone. Like, the door that leads to the credits is right there after you wake up by your friends, meaning that you could just end the game right there. But instead, the game wants you to backtrack, to see all of the other NPC's. But this decision is left purely to the player. In fact, the bread and butter of the entire endgame, meeting Asriel for the last time, is only vaguely hinted at (if not ever). Sure, some players might decide to explore absolutely everywhere and they might stumble across him at the beginning, but for a large majority of players, including myself, they didn't bother going to the ruins because they didn't think anything was there. And even if there was, they probably figured that it wasn't worth all the backtracking it takes to get there. Not to mention, once you got there, you had to walk all the way back to "The End".

Imo, the reason Earthbound's ending works so well is that you went from (essentially) the end back to the beginning. Now, the route you could take might be a large one, but there was almost no need to backtrack. And even if you did decide to take the quick route to Paula's house, you could still enjoy a substantial amount of the endgame. "I'm taking her home anyway, might as well stop by some of the NPC's and see how they're doing!" But with Undertale, Toby essentially copied the idea without realizing just why it worked in Earthbound in the first place.

I messed around with the XML file when converting from Musescore to Notepad, so hopefully the formatting is a lot better this time!

Dude, I've already submitted Temmie Village and Tem Shop. That's not a problem that needs solving.

This ranks up there with some of the greats: Gilgamesh, Hamlet, David Copperfield, My Immortal. Truly, a one of a kind masterpiece.

Quote from: Olimar12345 on January 02, 2016, 10:27:26 PMCouple more things:
-the US released album titles this track "Title Screen," so switch it over to that.
-the marcatos in this style mean a different thing than they normally do, and don't quite make sense in the way you have them. Rewrite them:
--m.2 RH beat 1 - make it an accent instead
--m.10 RH beat 1 - make a staccato, and beat 2.5 make an accent
--m.18 do the same as m.10

So now that the Undertale project is official and under new management, I figure that it's time to bring back my personal thread. I have three major announcements regarding this thread:
1) As the Undertale project continues on, I'll try to get my Undertale arrangements in order. Right now, a couple of them are not up-to-date, but I'll try and get them updated as they get accepted into the official Undertale project. Please understand.
2) I now have a list of all the songs I want/am planning to arrange! I don't plan on doing every single song in this list, but it's a good way for me to organize my thoughts, as well as to let you guys know what's going on in my head. Expect songs to be added or taken off at any given point.
3) A new arrangement!

[GBA] Monsoon Jungle (Wario Land 4) - MUS - MIDI - PDF - Original

I actually manually altered the XML file when transferring from Musescore to Notepad, so it should be up to NSM formatting standards. Let me know what you guys think! I wanna try using the same method for all of my other sub-par arrangements as well, so any feedback is appreciated.

Also, I re-did the OP, but that's not all that important...

Quote from: TheMarioPianist on January 01, 2016, 06:07:25 PMHere, this should make the text size look better! Also fit it on one page! Lastly, changed the measure distribution so that the 2 measure system is at the beginning. That makes sense since that is a two measure intro.
Thanks! Links have been updated

Quote from: Olimar12345 on January 01, 2016, 04:53:36 PMMusescore does weird things. All of your text is sized at 83 percent, while the music is at 100...
Yeah, I have no idea how to fix that...
Quote from: Olimar12345 on January 01, 2016, 04:53:36 PMAside from that, your note lengths don't always seem to match the original, yours tend to be on the long-side. Also, those E's in the last four measures might fair better down an octave. Also you're missing measure numbers (Can't believe I didn't add those in when I had the file last! >.< )
Lowered the E's, shortened some longer notes, and added a few embellishments. :)
Links have obviously been updated
