Well, what do you know? An update three days after a previous update! I am happy to announce this update's featured arranger: LeviR.star. In this neck of the woods, he is known as the Game Boi Arranger. It should be no surprise that this list of fine sheets consists of all 8-bit tunes ;). In all seriousness, I hope you all enjoy this list of sheets from the game "Castlevania: The Adventure" arranged by this rapidly budding arranger. I hope to see more great content coming to the site in the near future!

Castlevania: The Adventure
"Battle of the Holy"
"Darkness"
"Death Fair"
"Evil Devil"
"Gate to Hell"
"Kill! Kill! Kill!"
"Miscellaneous Short Themes"
"Revenge"
"Theme from "The Legend of Dracula" & Reprise"

Something cool I like to do and enjoy doing is work on fun projects (typically, encompassing a specific soundtrack or even a collage of random sheets from random games) with an arranger. This helps me help an arranger grow by checking their sheets one-on-one and giving them live feedback. Previous incarnations have proven to be very beneficial to the arranger. For example, Donkey Kong 64 - WaluigiTime64.

The breakdown of this initiative is as follows: The arranger gradually arranged the sheets, I (the moderating Updater) look over the sheet(s) live via chat or screenshare (if the arranger wishes) as the arranger arranges them, and the arranger learns and grows through this process.

Once the project is finished, there is a possibility of these sheets being put on the site.
As a side note, I'm hoping to have this happen with every project, but try not to get your hopes up. The fact that the sheets from a specified project will all be checked by one Updater (myself) already will increase the chances of them getting on site, unlike other arrangement projects in the past where all the sheets were dumped with major revisions needed.

If you would be interested in doing this, see instructions below, post, and then we can take subsequent steps from there.

Q&A:
Projects haven't seemed to work well in the past. They would go long, not much Updater/arranger interaction, etc. Why is this any different?
In the past, arrangement projects typically went like this: Arranger dumps sheets, Updater(s) check them, they get fixed by the Updaters and eventually accepted. There is little interaction between Updater and arranger about changes being made, Updaters lose interest because of the giant backlog of sheets and the changes being solely reliant on the Updater, and the length of the projects.

First of all, this endeavor isn't rooted in getting sheets on the site, but rather in the growth of the arranger. The primary function of this is to grow the arranger. How? Every sheet will be reviewed with the arranger's involvement and/or via live feedback. Explanations will be given for comments made on the sheet in hopes that the arranger will not make the same mistakes again and that it will help grow his arranging and engraving skills.

Secondly, these projects will be significantly shorter and more attainable than previous projects done. I have set a limit to 40 sheets (at most) for each project.

Finally, there will be not be inactivity on my end since I'm the one starting it and seeing it through. ;)

Will these sheets be updated to the site?
Maybe, but no guarantees. However, your chances will be increased. Here are two things that increase your chances of getting them on the site (outside of doing high-quality arranging): 1. One Updater will have already checked, fixed, and approved all of them.  2. Because of this, only one other Updater has to check them before being accepted.
My two biggest pieces of advice for those really wanting to get theirs updated to the site are these: 1. Do the best high-quality arranging you possibly can and stay on top of your project time-wise (this should be a given) and 2. Seek out a second Updater to perform a second check.

Want to do your own?
If you would like to do a project of your own, here's what to do:
1. Find a soundtrack or collage of sheets you would like to do. If you want to do a specific OST, the maximum amount per project is 40. If you want to do a backlog of your personal arrangements or random songs from random games, the maximum amount per project is 15.
If you want to do a soundtrack with more then 40, we can either cut it down to specific tracks you want to do the most, or we can split the project into multiple projects. Also, for clarification, you don't have to pick a soundtrack. If you have a bunch of high-quality sheets that have been sitting in your thread, bring 'em on by. Also, I can amend the rules in certain cases. For example, if you have 15 super long arrangements, I may limit you to 5 or 10 at most. Also, if you have a lot of super short songs or fanfares, I can increase the max, as well. I'm willing to work with whatever you bring me.

2. Post below giving the specifications of your desired project. NOTE: Only three projects can go at the same time. Yes, I know there are currently four, but since I made the rules after I took those on, I've adjusted the amount of projects allowed at the same time for this time only. You can still post below even if there are three projects going. You'll be next in line when a project finishes, if that's the case.

3. Stay on top of your project! If projects seem to be going inactive due to the arranger, I will terminate it. Don't worry though. I will give plenty of warnings before that. You won't be surprised if your project is terminated.

Help! / The Arranging Checklist™
December 31, 2016, 12:03:03 PM
This is something that I've been wanting to share for a while. It's been sitting in my computer for a few months doing nobody any good, so I decided to share it.

This little something that I put together I call The Arranging Checklist. I'd like to share the story that gave me the idea for this.
Back in the summer of this year, I got somewhat discouraged with my arranging. I'd make the same mistakes over and over again, my submissions would get the same feedback, etc; basically, I got to the point that I was not advancing in my skills. I found out that these mistakes I was making were not because of my skill level, but because of my human error and my sloppy, forgetful brain. When the Updaters would point them out, I'd be like, "Oh, dang. I knew that!! What's wrong with me?? I'm so dumb."
So, all in all, I decided to develop a checklist that I could use to comb through my arrangement after I finished it, to account for my brain's fallible ability to remember and fine-tune.
Don't get me wrong, it's not a one-time fix-all, just a supplement to help you with your arranging. In addition to the outline, I added some helpful comments and tools that you can use to improve your arranging. I hope this helps you as it does me!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I. Check to make certain that the notes you have are accurate and correct.
   A. Right Hand.
   B. Left Hand.

NOTE: You can divide the song up into sections, depending on the length of the song. You can check the right hand separately and then the left hand, or you can check the first four measures and then the next four measures, etc. Whatever works best for you. Double checking the notes can save you and the Updaters a lot of time.

Supplements for checking notes' accuracy:
- Tune Transcriber. https://www.tunetranscriber.com/
Tune Transcriber is a tool that can be used for arranging. You can load MP3 or YouTube videos to the tool online. No downloads are required. This tool allows you to slow down the song by 50%, which is extremely helpful for fast parts of a song or just hearing notes in general. In addition to slowing songs down, you can also add marks, beats, loops, and highlight certain parts of the song. This is a tool I use daily and I find most helpful.
- AudioStretch. This is a tool similar to the one above that can slow songs down for easy note recognition. This tool is also an IOS app.

II. Check to make certain that you have the correct signatures in your arrangement.
        A. Time Signature.

Spoiler
[close]
        B. Key Signature.

Spoiler
[close]

Supplements for finding signatures:
There are topics such as this where people can help you find the correct signatures for your arrangement. You can also send a private message to one of the Updaters. They are here to help! Not only can they help you find the signature for your arrangement, but they can also give you some tips and tricks to finding the signature yourself.

Try to make certain you have the correct signatures in your arrangement. They are the foundation of your arrangement.

III. Check to make certain that your formatting is top notch.
         A. Make certain there is nothing clashing.

The examples above are simple illustrations of clashing issues. 8vas, dynamics, and slurs are only a small percentage of clashing issues found in sheets. There are other types as well. Just be careful not to have any clashing issues!

         B. Make certain that all the text is aligned.
             1. Composer(s)/arranger(s) names.

2. Titles (Track title and Game title).

             3. Second page title and copyright information.

             4. Page numbers.

Remember: Page numbers rotate from side to side as the pages advance. Page 2 = Page number on the left; Page 3 = Page number on the right; Page 4 = Page number on the left; etc.

          C. Make certain that you have double bar lines at key changes and any at other place you feel the song transitions.

Spoiler
[close]
          D. Make certain the url in the copyright information at the bottom of the page is "http://www.ninsheetmusic.org/."

          E. Make certain you have a nice measure distribution in your arrangement.
Here at NSM we don't have a "required measures per system" rule, but we do look for a nice aesthetic look when it comes to measure distribution. With each sheet, measure distribution is taken on a case-by-case basis to find an optical, visually pleasing layout.

IV. Check to make certain that you have the correct accidentals in your sheet.

         A. Standard accidentals.
These can be quite tricky for most people. Go ahead and give this a good read.

         B. Courtesy accidentals.
Add these where you deem necessary.

V. Check to make certain that your layers are not misaligned.
        Left: Incorrect. Right: Correct.

Spoiler
[close]
There are some misalignments between layers that are more subtle than this example above. Keep your eyes peeled for them!

VI. Check the page and staff size to make certain that everything is in order.

Sometimes one page can be bigger/smaller than the other. Just make sure that everything looks correct.
You can check sizes here.
Spoiler
[close]
You can edit the size of pages, staffs, notes, etc. with the resize tool.

VII. Check the metronome marking (BPM) and make certain that you have the required markings and information.

    A. Check the metronome marking.
Here is a useful tool for getting an accurate beats per minute measurement:
http://www.all8.com/tools/bpm.htm
Spoiler
[close]
Red: A required marking on each sheet: the metronome marking. This tells the performer how fast/slow to play or what to set his metronome.
Green: This marking, preferred, but not required, sets the mood for the piece. Usually this word is in the language of Italian, but is also found in German and English.

    B. Make certain you have the correct composer(s) listed on your arrangement.

Spoiler
[close]
Even though the composer(s) of a video game soundtrack can be found on Wikipedia most of the time, official soundtrack listings are prefered over Wikipedia sources.
The same goes for track titles and copyright information. Try to find official sources before resorting to anything else.

VIII. Check The Formatting Guidelines to make certain that your sheet matches up with those rules.

IX. Make certain that your arrangement is playable to the human body, not a Finale robot.
Does your arrangement have huge leaps, extremely long reaches, or things of that nature?

X. Above all, do not plagiarize.

'Nuff said.

Once again, I hope this is helpful! Don't forget to use this for double-checking your arrangement. ;)

It's about time I take a stab at one of these topics.
Here I will post a video game song that I really like in approximately one day intervals (much like E Gadd's word of the day topic); however, I may post one more than once day.

Google isn't helping, so I decided to ask here.

When I export a 2014 musx file to a 2012 mus file, the hidden accidentals in the second layer become visible.

Nintendo / The Super Mario Maker Tournament!
February 26, 2016, 11:25:18 AM
Welcome to the Super Mario Maker Tournament!
This is an idea that I came up with about a month or so ago and I volunteered Maestro to be the guinea pig. Basically, you post the name and code of your Super Mario Maker levels and Maestro will play them. I'm sure he'll comment on them and tell us what he likes/dislikes about them, as well.

What you need to know:
1. Post your level below in the comments section and I'll put them in a list. Example:
[Level Name]
{Level code}
For now, post a maximum of 3 levels so we don't have too many to play through.
If we need more, we can grab a couple out of this topic.
http://forum.ninsheetmusic.org/index.php?topic=7522.0

2. Maestro will play through them, comment on them, etc. He will post them on his channel, Romp Airlines, and/or play through them live on Twitch.
As of now, we only have one "judge" (I put judge in quotes since he's more playing through them and commenting than actually judging them) at the moment. If you would like to be one, please tell me! : )

I think that's everything! Currently, Maestro is the only person that will be playing through them. If you would like to be a "judge", just tell me and I'll get you up in the OP too.

Forum Games / Video Game Trivia 2.0
December 04, 2015, 05:30:17 PM
Hello everyone! Welcome to Video Game Trivia 2.0!
Since Blueflower is not around, I'm going to continue this fun forum game that he did an excellent job at hosting.

Unlike Blueflower's Video Game Trivia, this forum game will not reward you in mycokerewards codes. However, that doesn't mean you won't get rewarded at all. First, I shall explain how the game works:

I post a piece of video game trivia, usually pertaining to Nintendo or some other game company that I am somewhat knowledgeable about. I will also choose questions from games that I have not played to spice things up. Depending on the conditions for the question, you may or may not be allowed to use the internet to help you. If I say you can, go ahead, Google the question. But if I say you can't, then don't! The first person to post the correct answer to the question gets a point, two points, etc.

Now, for the reward, whoever gets twenty points first wins a free arrangement of your choice. I will arrange any video game song under 2 minutes that you ask me to do. Once someone reaches 20, the counters will be reset and a new round started. The winner can contact me via pm or skype to tell me what arrangement to do.

Something else you may want to know.
Here are the types of question I will be doing:

Normal Fill in the Blank Questions
Who is Mario's brother?
Luigi

True or False Questions. (Extra points if you tell me why it's false and give me the correct answer (if the answer is not true))
True or False.
Mario's brother is Toad.
False. Mario's brother is Luigi.

Multiple Choice Questions.
Who is Mario's brother?
A. Wario
B. Luigi
C. Toad
D. Link

Well, let's get started!

Round #1, Question #1:

Where does Five Nights at Freddy's 4 take place?

You may not use Google.

Feedback / Less Projects Idea
October 31, 2015, 10:52:20 AM
This is an idea that recently came to me. Currently, we have 3 projects going, which is too many. Even 2 projects seems like a hassle and is too slow.
Olimar and I were talking and thought it'd be a good idea to go from 2 projects at a time to 1.
We usually have a fixing the sheets project and a normal arrangement project opened at the same time, but what does everyone think of having only 1 at a time and switch off between normal and fixing the sheets? I noticed that not too many people are interested in fixing the sheets projects.
Here are some Pros to this idea. There is actually a lot of Pros which is why I brought this idea up.

Pros of having 1 project at a time:
- Pro: Projects would go faster; the Updaters could focus on one project at a time intern making things faster.

- Pro: Submissions would go faster. With less projects, the Updaters could focus on subs more and not have to worry about a handful of projects.

- Pro: With only 1 project, submissions could be bumped up to 3.....maybe.

- Pro: With only 1 project, the Updaters could work on other cool projects like, Olimar's featured arranger project(s), surprise/special projects, one vs. one competitions etc.

- Pro: We could discard the fixing the sheets project all together. We could make a board like submissions that is dedicated to replacements and the current arrangement board could be for new arrangements. I could design that board if people are interested.....

So, what does everyone think? :P

Music / Mlf needs help starting a youtube channel
August 19, 2015, 10:19:51 AM
The title says it all!
Unfortunetly, all I know about computers is programming stuff.....that's it XD

Some questions I need answered:
1. I am planning on starting a Youtube channels where I'll (for now) be doing only music related things and I'd like to have an exclusive profile picture. Is there any programs that someone can recommend me for making custom pics?

2. How do I edit stuff into videos (here is one for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qz8klSPt3fE)?

I'm sure I'll have more questions in the future, but let's start with these :P

Thanks to everyone for the help in advance!

What is the "Fixing the Sheets Project"?
The "Replacing the Sheets" Project is an organized effort brought to you by TheMarioPianist and Myself to bring each and every sheet of music on NinSheetMusic up to the current standard. Some of the target sheets were submitted before any quality standard was required. As a result, some of those sheets are abhorring.

In no way does this project forbid replacement submissions from other games/franchises. This is simply a united, organized effort to deal with the substandard sheets one game/category at a time.
We will be focusing on Super Mario 64.
Spoiler
[close]

What you need to know:

-If you begin work on a sheet, post here letting me know so I can edit the target post (the next one) with the updated information. This keeps multiple people from working on the same song at the same time.
-Can't arrange? No problem; critique other sheets that either have not been looked at yet, or have just been revised. The Updaters will NOT be looking over these unless they decide otherwise.
-There is no limit to how many sheets one may work on simultaneously but I would recommend that every sheet you take you must complete or don't take it at all.
-If you fix a sheet, your name will appear on the song list (on the Target Post) as the sheet modifier; however your name will not be listed as the arranger on the main site. Nor can you change the original arranger's name to your own on the sheet itself. This may only be done if the sheet was so dramatically changed that it counts as a replacement or is completely redone from scratch. In which case you can put your name on it.
Altering the original arranger's name on a sheet without just cause is considered plagiarism and is strictly prohibited.
For more information on replacements, refer here.

Who to contact for questions, comments, and/or concerns regarding this whole endeavor:
Yours truly

We will be giving out a common template (just like in the Animal Crossing project) so all the sheets will have the correct game/formatting info. And so it will be less of a hassle if we get an update.
Template

Here is the OST. We will be using the official names which these are.
OST

Our Goals for the Unofficial Replacement Projects:
We hope to edit/replace every sheet in the target game. We will be fixing all musical and formatting errors as well as the url. In addition, we hope to get the formatting up to the standards of Bespinben and make every sheet we do as top quality as possible!
Our ultimate goal is to get a swift update for each unofficial replacement project we do.

Questions you might ask:

What games will you be doing?
We will be starting with the games in the "Super Mario" section and depending on how fast we go, how many people are interested, and how daring the Updaters are feeling, will tell where we go next. For the time being, we will be doing only the "Super Mario" section.

Why the "Super Mario" section?
Well, there are 2 reasons actually. 1. The Mario Pianist and I are big Mario fans obviously and we do have a lot of Mario fans on NSM who would be interested in helping. 2. "Super Mario", "Pokemon", and "Other" are 3 vast libraries of video game music and it would be great if we could get those big categories fixed first.....then we wouldn't have much to go with the other categories. So, we decided to start with "Super Mario" since there is another Pokemon project already in progress and another Pokemon one is going to be starting soon.

Why are you doing only 1 Mario game? Why not do multiple ones at the same time?
We decided that doing it in small little phases would be way more practical than in big bites. It helps us feel like things are getting done and gives us a reasonable and attainable goal. Having 50 songs on the OP can be overwhelming XD

What if no one is interested?
Simple, MarioPianist & I will do all the songs ourselves. Our only goal is to get valuable and quality sheets on the site.

If you have a question that is not above, PLEASE ask! :)

Here is a List of the Sheets that need replaced/edited:
Note: These are not the official names. They are what they appear as on the main site.
Another Note: Songs from this game that have been added after the site url change will not be looked over/replaced/edited because they have the modern standards of sheets and because they have the correct url.
