[SWITCH] Luigi's Mansion 3 - "2F: Mezzanine"
[MUSX] [MUS] [MIDI] [PDF] [WAV]

I decided to challenge myself a bit by writing this, rather than in B-flat minor (the less extreme option), in the enharmonic key of A♯ minor. This resulted in really challenging part-writing. For example, in measures 11-12. This part of the RH phrase is totally diatonic to A♯ minor, with the exception of the D-double-sharp that ends the phrase. In this case, you might think E♮ makes more sense, and it is certainly easier to read, but if you think tonally, the function of this pitch is actually as a #4, not a ♭5. The non-harmonic tone being accented and the implied resolution up to 5 (E♯) being withheld only serve to complicate this a little more. Tl;dr -- this really tested my theory knowledge.

Because of all the fun accidentals going on, I tried to include courtesies wherever I thought they might be helpful. It's possible I missed some.

Looking forward to finally being a part of this update!

https://open.spotify.com/album/6fWQdn10mutvilDBkeeVCZ

This album, also on iTunes, Apple Music, and Amazon, is basically our entire Professor Layton section. A couple of the tracks which have official piano book arrangements are not from NSM, but the majority are (seriously, there's no way that they would randomly choose the same exact few sheets we have, and there's no way that tracks like the London Life title and Monte d'Or would be arranged exactly the way my versions on the site are by coincidence). Should I be allowed to feel angry about this? Or once it's up on our site is that fair game for anyone to profit from without credit? I'm feeling really conflicted.

In case it matters, the only others affected by this are Bloop, Bubbles, and PitTan.

It seems like this person has lots of video game albums, so I guess it's likely this isn't the only franchise.

Blah.

Nintendo / Nintendo Direct March 8 Comments
March 09, 2018, 06:33:19 AM
So Smash is obviously amazing, but I figured maybe some other users would like to talk about the other cool things announced (there were a LOT, in my opinion).

Oddly enough, my number one exciting announcement is actually the Luigi's Mansion remake for 3DS. That was the first game I got for GameCube and it's a personal favorite that I haven't touched in several years.

I'm also really pretty hyped for the Captain Toad ports, since that was imo the hands down best game on Wii U. It was one of those that the beginning was kind of iffy, but as you got into the more challenging things it became really fun. As odd as this sounds, I think I'm actually going to opt for the 3DS version rather than the Switch. I really do just enjoy the handheld gaming experience more (Switch is handheld, yes, but it's different).

I of all people am not really hyped for the Bowser's Inside Story remake, honestly. That's mostly because I'm a little irritated that they skipped over Partners in Time, which is really just a fantastic creepy adventure that I feel like even fans of the series overlook. Also, even though Bowser Jr. is one of my favorite characters, the Bowser Jr. mode looks like a rehash of the Bowser's Minions mode from the Superstar Saga remake. That mode wasn't bad exactly, but idk I don't want to play it again just for cute Bowser Jr. scenes. Of course, it won't be released until 2019, so by the time it rolls around I may feel ready, haha.

Also, Undertale on Switch, anyone? Hell yeah!

To be honest, I'm kind of amazed and excited for all this 3DS support this late in the console's lifetime. It's true that it's mainly remakes of other games, but damn they're first party and presumably high quality, right?

Nintendo / Nintendo eShop Sale Topic
November 22, 2017, 12:02:41 PM
Do we have one of these? If not here's a list of current eShop sales: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/11/nintendo_of_america_launches_its_eshop_cyber_deals_for_switch_3ds_and_wii_u

Current sales I want to call attention to since they're personal favorites:

Ace Attorney Dual Destinies: $9.99 (AMAZING deal since even on smartphones this game is usually around $15-$17)
Ace Attorney Spirit of Justice: $14.99 (also AMAZING because this game is a great adventure game that's about twice the length of Dual Destinies)

Also want to ask about a few games I'm thinking about getting while they're on sale:
I am setsuna — still not very cheap even with the sale, though the idea of a JRPG that won't take up a million hours of my time is appealing.
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Seasons — at $2.99 apiece I am extremely tempted here. Are they good? I've never really played a 2D Zelda.
Rhythm Heaven Megamix — as rhythm games go, how is this?

FINALLY! This was the announcement I was really hoping for today. September 22 can't get here fast enough. I'll be getting Silver.

Nintendo / Pokémon Ultra Sun & Pokémon Ultra Moon
June 06, 2017, 07:09:35 AM
This was hilariously out of left field???

Tbh it feels like they're trying to end the Sun and Moon gen early because they're going to move to Switch after that. But idk if the game is cool enough then I'll be okay with it.

Movies & TV / Twin Peaks
May 20, 2017, 07:40:33 AM
Is anyone else here a fan of this show? I'm in love with Twin Peaks and can't wait for the revival to start tomorrow. For those of you who don't know, it's a continuation of a show that hasn't been on in twenty-six years, so it's pretty exciting. If anyone likes crime shows with soap opera, comedy, and weird supernatural elements thrown in, I totally recommend watching the original series on Netflix. It's so good.

Anyway, I guess answer the poll, I'm curious. If anyone else IS watching it, please talk about it with me lmao

Only applies to those of us in the U.S., but hey! It falls comfortably between the Japanese anniversary (September) and the European anniversary (not until July), so it's as good a time as any to commemorate it. I'm pretty sure we have a "five years since Diamond and Pearl" thread somewhere but I think ten years (and that amount of time since the last thread has been used) probably justifies a new topic.

I may have said this before, but while Ruby and Sapphire was the generation I grew up with, and I've played the GBA games countless times, it was Diamond and Pearl that really solidified me as a Pokémaniac. It was the first video game I had ever preordered, and I can still remember going with my brother to get the games on day one (I had Diamond, he had Pearl). It was so long ago that I still had the original DS system--it was beautifully clunky and a dark shade of blue--and I vividly remember starting the game on the car ride home. Old Turtwig and I had our fair share of good times, and it felt like such a real adventure to me at the time. Later on I came to consider the Diamond and Pearl games among the less great entries in the series, because of some poorly-implemented mechanics (so much backtracking and too many HMs to name a couple), but as the first Pokémon title to make the jump to Nintendo DS, it succeeded by and large and set into motion what I believe is the longest Pokémon generation to date, other than perhaps the first one.

So vote about the starters and post some good memories of playing Diamond and Pearl here!

Nintendo / Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World
February 04, 2017, 07:01:04 PM
So I skipped this when it came out on Wii U because other than Mario games I'm never able to finish platformers on home consoles. But I've played the demo for the Nintendo 3DS port three times since I downloaded it and feel like I would really like to get this. Anyone have any recommendation about it, either because they have it or already played it on Wii U? How is the game?
#14
Inspired by the recent tangent in the Unpopular Opinions topic.

My favorite is Alice in Wonderland, with the Fantasia movies and Beauty and the Beast pretty close behind. When I was little I loved The Jungle Book too.

My least favorites are probably Pinocchio (terrified me as a kid), The Lion King, and Frozen.

Nintendo / Pokémon Red, Blue, & Yellow
January 31, 2016, 09:08:48 AM
Get hyped! We've only got about four weeks before the original Pokémon games are released on the eShop. Amazon's download code listings confirm that they'll each retail for $9.99, a bit pricier than the average Virtual Console title.

Anyway, answer the poll and post your reasons here! Personally, I'm having a tough time deciding which one to buy. Blue is the one I grew up with and it would have the best nostalgia value, but I've never played Yellow before! So I'm very conflicted. Any advice?

I'll try to update the poll every few days or so if enough people start playing these and are interested in talking about the games leading up to release.

The Werewolf Game / TWG LXXXI: Pokémon X & Y
July 04, 2015, 02:30:24 PM
TWG LXXXI: Pokémon X & Y

TEAM FLARE: The evil team spread across the Kalos region, wreaking havoc and attempting to build a weapon of horrific proportions. Lysandre, their leader, is a distinguished businessman and is even considered a friend by the esteemed Professor Sycamore, so as such is able to influence the Seers to misinterpret one player's color every night phase. He and his henchmen, fashionable though they may be, will be Seer'd red, though the elite Celosia can herself Seer other players. In addition, the similarly powerful Xerosic will be able to use force to prevent one player from using their power every night phase. Finally, Team Flare's prototype of the Ultimate Weapon allows them to have a "Piercing" power that will cause a person to die even if the Guardian has protected them, though this will only be effective once.
1. Lysandre (Wolf Painter)
2. Celosia (Wolf Shaman)
3. Xerosic (Wolf Roleblocker)

SPECIAL TRAINERS: These people of importance and influence in the Kalos region are helpful to the Pokémon Trainers that inhabit it. Professor Augustine Sycamore, a selfless individual who recognizes the importance in every Trainer, is able to protect one player other from himself from being killed every night phase. Diantha, the region's insightful Champion, can uncover another player's color every night phase. And the mysterious AZ, who wanders Kalos to search for a lost Pokémon, understands firsthand the horrible nature of what Team Flare is trying to accomplish and is attempting to stop them. He has the power to kill another player every night phase. These powers, however, will not be able to be used until Night 2, as these Trainers aren't aware of any suspicious occurrences until the first murder incident. These Trainers will be Seer'd blue.
4. Sycamore (Guardian)
5. Diantha (Seer)
6. AZ (Vigi)

POKÉMON TRAINERS: The good, hardworking, everyday citizens of Kalos, terrified by Team Flare's actions and under a lot of pressure to unmask the traitors among them. The Collector, a strange and often creepy Trainer, will be Seer'd red, while the Psychic, a seemingly supernatural Trainer, will be Seer'd blue.
7. Collector (Miller)
8. Psychic (Herring)
9. Pokémon Trainer (Human)
10. Pokémon Trainer (Human)
11. Pokémon Trainer (Human)

Note that for all powers, including Wolfing, Painting, Seering, Roleblocking, Guarding, and Vigi-ing, I will accept the most recent PM before the end of the Night Phase as your choice in the case that I receive multiple PMs.

All Role PMs have been sent out. It is now Night 1. Night 1 will end July 5, 2015, at 9:00 PM EST. No powers other than Wolfing will be able to be used until Night 2, so use this time to talk amongst yourselves, use the IRC, or otherwise just post here for notifications.

If you have any questions, PM me.

Nintendo / A Trip to the Hoenn Region!
October 27, 2014, 08:13:30 PM
Hey y'all. So Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire are coming out in less than a month now (!!!) and I think we should take a look back at what we love -- and don't love -- about the original Pokémon Ruby, Pokémon Sapphire, and Pokémon Emerald games. Well, at least, I'd love to since I have a huge fondness for the third generation of Pokémon games. I'll start us off with an easy poll and I'll update it every so often. Note that if you don't want to be spoiled on new features of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, read no further!

First Poll
What's your favorite of the ancient Pokémon trio from Hoenn -- Kyogre, Groudon, or Rayquaza?

What's New Here?
The Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire games have gifted these iconic monsters with some fancy new forms: Primal Kyogre, Primal Groudon, and Mega Rayquaza.

Primal Kyogre has a higher Special Attack stat than its normal counterpart. Its ability, Primordial Sea, causes strong rain that lasts for as long as Primal Kyogre is in battle, prevents other weather from occurring, and renders all Fire-type attacks useless.
Primal Kyogre
[close]

Primal Groudon gains an extra type to become Ground/Fire rather than just Ground, in addition to having a higher Attack stat than normal Groudon. Its ability, Desolate Land, brings strong sunlight that lasts for as long as Primal Groudon is in battle, prevents other weather from occurring, and renders all Water-type attacks useless.
Primal Groudon
[close]

Not much is known about Mega Rayquaza yet, but Rayquaza apparently Mega Evolves using a different method than other Pokémon. Its ability, Delta Stream, brings a new type of weather called Strong Winds that prevents other weather from occurring and even overrides Desolate Land and Primordial Sea. In addition, attacks that would normally be super effective on Flying-type Pokémon will be severely weakened.
Mega Rayquaza

Music / What's your favorite creepy video game music?
October 17, 2014, 12:08:05 PM
So it's Halloween--or as I like to call it, hellaween--month, and I've been putting together some spooky/fun playlists to listen to while I do homework, etc. List some of your favorite Halloween-esque video game songs here! Obviously games like Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon are going to have a lot of creepy and silly material, but there are surprising gems in other titles too.

I'll start things off with one of my favorites: Pumpkin Park from Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask.
