Hello, I am monkeybull223.  I have been playing percussion since I was 11 (so 8 years now).  I started composing in my free time last November with a marimba solo that was a sort of medley thing of video game music which I sourced from this website.  I have since composed 2 other marimba solos, a percussion sextet accompaniment to my third marimba solo, and one percussion octet.  Each one of them has at least a small snippet of video game music in it.  I hope you enjoy!

This one is of special significance as it was dedicated to a member of my high school's band who passed away this past February due to complications from a double lung and heart transplant two years prior.  This is the one I wrote percussion sextet accompaniment for.

So, yeah, this is what I do in my free time.  I am studying film production in college right now and I am planning on a music minor.

Any constructive criticism/critiques are welcomed and appreciated!

1.  I like your music because I enjoy seeing what classic video game themes can become in the hands of a capable musician.  I like how you take these (sometimes) simple melodies and warp them into these monstrous masterpieces fit for Liszt himself.  I am amazed to see that someone has the creativity to even consider doing something like this.
2. This question doesn't apply to me.
3.  I don't really pay attention to the series (unless it is a Kanto Rhapsody).  If it is a tune that I am familiar with, I am excited to see what is done to it.
4.  When something new is posted, my usual reaction is "Yay! Let's see where this musical madman goes with this!"
5. I like the redesigns and the classical infusions the most (my favorites from each being The Underworld Theme from Mario and The Floating Ship from Mario 3 respectively).  I like the redesigns because they require the arranger to be more creative with what kind of mood/imagery/style he/she is trying to convey.  The Underworld Theme redesign is a good example because it takes the ominous feel of being underground and surrounded by enemies and combines it with the similar concept within Dante's Inferno.  In the Floating Ship, I liked how you combined the bassline rhythm with the famous 5/4 rhythm from Mars from The Planets.  Doing something like that requires a thorough enough knowledge of classical music to pull influences and apply them well.
6.  I would love to see more of the Kanto Rhapsody series and maybe even branch out into the other Pokemon regions (Johto, Hoenn etc.).  Also Final Fantasy because the music there is already AMAZING and I feel you could do a lot of good with them.  I can't think of any series to stay away from.
7.  I don't see how the fact that none of your arrangements are on the site itself takes away from other arrangers.  One could easily say that you are more ambitious with your arrangements.  But don't think that it is overshadowing others, they do what they do with VG arrangements and you do what you do.
8.  Not a piano arranger.  Or a pianist.  I am a mallet percussionist.
9.  I am interpreting this question to be an extension of number 8.  As such, I don't feel qualified to answer properly.
10.  ABSOLUTELY NOT!  The way I see it, if someone wants to take an original melody or whatnot of mine and try to make it better in their own eyes I am all for it.  I would be honored that other's like my music enough to put their own unique spin on it.

I hope my answers were helpful.

I love it!  It really does remind me of RSE/ORAS music.  It reminds me of somewhere between Littleroot Town, Lillycove, the Surf theme and The Soaring theme during the day.

YAYYYYYY!!!!!! I was counting the days leading up to the two year anniversary of the upload of the RSE Title theme youtube video.  Good to have you back, Ben.  You were and still are one of my top 2 favorite arrangers on this site, along with MaestroUGC

The only problem with that idea is that my transcription/arrangement isn't like they performed it in the video.
I just felt having their actual names would look more professional on the cover page.  Which I should probably upload, too.

Your Zelda Main Theme arrangement is very good. I mean, as you are a percussionist that is to be expected. Something many arrangements lack is the practical part of it, but this arrangement is a good example of something a group of people could just pick up and start playing. So that's good.

Just a tip: Finale NotePad is actually pretty bad, which is the reason why you couldn't change the names of the instruments, or making the glockenspiel play in the right octave and all that stuff. Most of us on the site uses Finale PrintMusic or better, which imo is as good a program as you'll really ever need. If you're going to continue arranging I seriously suggest getting something better than NotePad, 'cause the limitations are just too much.

Thank you very much!
Yeah, NotePad is pretty lackluster, I'm wanting to get and upgrade for my birthday in July.
You mentioned that one of the guys who made the video was in you class last year. do you know if i could get all three guys names so i can list them as the arrangers, instead of listing their YouTube channel as the arranger.

Hello all!

I am Monkeybull223 and i have been a member here at ninsheetmusic for about a year and a half now.  I am a percussionist who specializes in mallets (marimba, xylophone bells, vibes).  Most of the arrangements you might find here will be for mallet percussion/percussion ensembles.

I hope you enjoy my work!

Here is my first arrangement.  It is a transcription of this video for percussion septet:

I spent about three weeks doing this.

Here is a Dropbox link to the score and all the parts in PDF and MUS filetypes.

I used Finale NotePad 2012 in tandem to Noteflight (so i could change tempos).  So excuse the fact that the Marimba 3 part says "Timpani 1" in the score, because it was the only way i could get a solitary bass clef for that part.

Unfortunetly, the Personal Arrangement Thread is for Piano only.
You could post them in the Music Board though :)

Thank you for making me aware.  I wasn't quite sure which sub forum this would fit under, so i went for this one thinking someone would tell me otherwise.

If you are reffering to me and the mallet instruments, then yes, but only at my school do i have access.  I am in the television production class at my school and thus have video editing skills if they are needed.

I can play any and all percussion instruments. I prefer mallets (anywhere from 2-4 mallets) and timpani, but i play anything.
