Nintendo / Best DS music
January 20, 2017, 10:48:50 AM
I'm currently planning on making a list of my favourite music from DS games. I'd like some ideas for it, be it by jogging my memory or introducing me to amazing music I've never heard. Here's the list at the moment:
QuotePokémon Black & White Versions 2
Aspertia City

Children of Mana
Tower of the Flickering Prayer

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness & Sky
A Grand Tale of Time and Darkness
Time Gear
Vast Ice Mountain Peak (Sky)
Hidden Highland
Memories Returned

Pokémon Black & White Versions
Opelucid City (White)
Village Bridge

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team
Sky Tower

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
The Ocean King's Theme (fan-name)

Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Versions
Outside the Pokémon League (Day)
Route 209 (Day)
Canalave City (Day)
Battle! Team Galactic Boss
Lake

Solatorobo: Red the Hunter
Tears of Courage
Drop of Light

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
Opening
Overworld Adventure
Tower of Spirits Staircase
Before the Final Battle
Fighting Cole and Malladus
(All of these names come from Zelda Universe's playlist)

New Super Mario Bros.
Overworld Theme

Animal Crossing: Wild World
Main Theme/Title Screen
K. K. Condor

Pokémon Conquest
Electric Battle

Professor Layton and the Lost Future
A Quiet Town

Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver Versions
Route 47

Okamiden
Preparing for Action

Professor Layton series
Professor Layton's theme
These are in the order I thought of them.

In particular, I need help cutting down my Explorers and Spirit Tracks list, since the final video will only allow one track per game. Not one per franchise, though, because about a third of the DS games I've played are Pokémon games.

Movies & TV / Animated films
October 23, 2016, 02:18:51 PM
Hello, everybody! My internet name is Nitro Indigo, and recently I've been obsessed with animated films. In fact, I barely even watch live-action movies.

To start us off:
- In descending order, my favourite movies are Rise of the Guardians, Inside Out, Toy Story 2, and The LEGO Movie. I'll also defend Cars because no-one else wants to.
- I sort of want to watch Atlantis: The Lost Empire, knowing as little as possible, but it's really hard to come by, in the UK at least.
- Over the next week, I will be watching various animated movies, of varying degrees of quality.

Basically, this thread is for critizing works of fiction you like... And praising ones you don't.

First off, least favourite aspects of things I like:
Rise of the Guardians nearly bankrupted DreamWorks.
I don't like how we never got to see what happened to the rest of the world at the end of Klonoa: Door to Phantomile.
If I had one bad thing to say about Inside Out, it's how Sadness kept touching the memories because "she couldn't help it." Sounds like a cop-out to me.
I don't like how the Harry Potter books spend ages setting things up. I know that there's foreshadowing and all that, but still.
In Toy Story 2, it's sort of unrealistic how the toys hijacked the airport luggage thing and drove it back home, off screen, without anyone noticing.
I'll defend Cars because no-one else wants to, but even I'll admit that most of the supporting characters are incredibly one-note.
Solatorobo has incredibly pixelated graphics, even by DS standards.
I really don't like the designs of the Lokomos in Spirit Tracks. Except Byrne/Staven, he's awesome.
The Thousand-Year Door has incredibly low-resolution textures, even by GameCube standards.

As for my favourite parts of my least favourite fiction, I don't hate many things. The only thing I can think of right now that I genuinely dislike is Seekers, but the Egmont covers look amazing.

I saw this on Tumblr once, and thought it would be fun. Basically, spoil the ending of your favourite game, but don't tell us what it is, or explain why things happened.

I'll be doing my top five favourite video games, but you don't have to.
  • A girl sings, the protagonist steals his best friend's jewellery, then said best friend smiles. (Actually, this ending is really sad. Why am I making fun of it?)
  • The planet now has three rings, which never appear in another game in the series again. (This game doesn't have much of a plot.)
  • An orange sphere explodes, and a couple of cats are mortal now.
  • The old people, and the only cool character in the game, turn into sparkles and fly away into the sunset.
  • The boat dies, then you set sail for new adventures, only on Nintendo DS.

Gaming / Indigo rambles about various games
July 30, 2016, 08:31:42 AM
Hello, everybody! My internet name is Nitro Indigo, and this is where I will share my thoughts on various games. These aren't necessarily reviews, more like a writeup of my various opinions. Feel free to reply, by the way.

Rambles so far
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity
Klonoa: Door to Phantomile

Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly. I've had that game for weeks, but due to TV Tropes' immense hatred of it (that really needs to be dealt with, because that game gets shoehorned into almost every negative video game-related trope - that's not Mission Pack Sequel, that's It's The Same, So It Sucks), I can't bring myself to play it. So, I'd like you, people of NSM who know about this game, to say something positive about this game. It can be anything, as long as you say it in earnest.

Request / [DC] System startup
May 19, 2016, 11:33:35 PM
A bit of an odd request, but I love this startup sound. Could someone please do it?

I asked this a lot on other websites a few years ago. Time to bring it back...

This game was never released in Europe until Virtual Console despite having barely any text in it because Nintendo are incompetent idiots who deserve to go bankrupt.* Whenever you press the A button, a helper character with terrible AI appears. There are only nine abilities in the game, despite the previous instalment having over twenty. Occasionally, you have to play minigames in the middle of a stage for no reason.

*I see that mentality all over Zelda Universe...

Story Telling / A fanfic idea I have
May 02, 2016, 04:10:40 AM
This thread is basically me brain-dumping and seeing what people think of my ideas.

A Delayed Game Is Eventually Good is set in a world inhabited by the avatars of video games, who are constantly at war with eachother. Set in the equivalent of 2003, it follows the story of a PlayStation 2 game who is constantly made fun of by her peers for being unfinished, and so escapes to try to find her place. She ends up finding the Nintendo games, despite always being told they were her enemies, where The Wind Waker, realizing that she's not a spy, takes pity on her and disguises her as a GameCube game. Now the PS2 game must avoid being found out, or she'll become an enemy of both sides... but are there always two sides?
There'll also be a subplot about the fall of Sega's consoles, and the protagonists visit the abandoned Dreamcast base at one point.

(If you think you know what game the protagonist is, PM me. It's going to be a plot twist.)

Problems:
- I don't know many non-Nintendo-system games, especially from the 6th generation.
- The protagonist is a PS2 game that was later ported to the GameCube, but what about multi-platform games where every version was released on the same day? Or even cases like Twilight Princess?
- How will Microsoft factor into this?

Microsoft / Laptop screen is covered in lines
April 29, 2016, 11:50:21 PM
My laptop screen is covered in tiny lines, and I don't know how to fix it. There's a lot of coloured lines at the left side that completely obstruct everything, as well as many translucent lines that go all the way across the screen, and fade towards the right. This causes everything on the right side of the screen to look really ugly and discoloured. How do I fix it? I'm using Windows 10.

Nintendo / Good GameCube games
April 26, 2016, 12:58:41 PM
I sort of want to start playing GameCube games, which will require me buying a controller and a memory card (I already have a Wii). Of course, it's not set in stone that I will buy those, because I can't afford them, but if I buy them, what games should I get? Bear in mind that GameCube stuff is crazy expensive (The Thousand-Year Door costs more than a PlayStation 2 from Cex), so I won't be able to afford all the stuff everyone likes. Also, I already own the other-console versions of The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

Gaming / Flawed games you like
April 20, 2016, 10:37:34 AM
Sometimes, there are those games which you know aren't all that great, and can totally understand why people would hate them, but you still like those games unironically anyway. This thread is for those games.

THE DOG Island
The controls (in the Wii version, at least) are really weird, and the game essentially boils down to a long series of fetch quests, but how can you hate a game about adorable puppies? Also, the music is great, but then again, I say that about every game I like, and even some I don't.

Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise
The graphics are terrible even by DS standards. The Piñata routing and collision detection are really awkward. There's not much to do. I love this game.

(If this was theoretically submitted to the site, which game would it go under? I'll change the title accordingly.)

I wanted to remix this for the 20th anniversary, but... the only thing close to sheet music I could find for this was guitar tabs. Could someone please do this?

Nintendo / The Legend of Zelda discussion
April 06, 2016, 12:06:02 PM
Since there was a lot of Zelda talk on the E3 thread, I decided to make a new thread for it so the E3 thread doesn't remain derailed forever.

Here's a few topics to get us started:
- When is Zelda U coming out?
- What games would you like to see?
- Do you want any more remakes?

Nintendo / General Animal Crossing
April 01, 2016, 12:07:26 PM
With the 15th anniversary coming up in thirteen days, I decided to make this thread to discuss Animal Crossing. Let's face it, if Nintendo forgot Zelda's 30th anniversary, they're probably going to forget AC's 15th too.

To start this thread, what's your favourite K.K. Slider song? Mine is K.K. Condor. I first got it through a random K.K. request, having never heard it before, and when I heard the aircheck, I was shocked. It reminded me of Spirit Tracks so much, and I LOVE that game.

Microsoft / Heaphones problem
March 31, 2016, 11:40:38 AM
A few months ago, my Windows 10 laptop decided that it would stop recognising headphones for no reason. It can't be a problem with the headphones because I've tried at least four pairs and none of them work. I've tried everything - updating audio drivers, contacting Microsoft - but nothing seems to be working. Help?

Music / I do remixes!
March 31, 2016, 05:01:56 AM
Over on my YouTube channel, I make remixes of video game music. I'm really looking for ways to improve my remixes - in particular, any tips to prevent these from becoming direct adaptations of sheet music? Keep in mind that I'm using the FL Studio 12 demo on a system that doesn't recognise headphones.

Could someone please make sheet music of Saying Goodbye? I need it for a remix I want to make.
