Player Analyses

1.  BlackDragonSlayer:  Being so trusting of Bird Night 1 was a really poor decision that easily could have backfired on you.  There was no reason for you to tell him you were the guardian.  Had he not been a human, it would have really damaged the human team.  Luckily things worked out there and you didn't end up hurting anything, but what you did was risky and had no forseeable benefit in a game where nobody's going to counterclaim Guardian.  Outside of that play, you were pretty reserved.

2.  Yugi:  I really liked the decision to claim Grave Robber.  It got Waddle to drop a hint that he might be the Grave Robber, made Mashi panic and counterclaim you, and in general made this game pretty difficult for the zombies.  It also significantly increased your chances of being seered, a good thing as the Master Wolf.  I think there's a case for you to be wolf MVP, but I gave it to Davy for reasons I'll explain in his section.  An all-around solid wolf performance--it's unfortunate that people thought you were a zombie!

3.  MaestroUGC:  Your disappearing really hurt the Zombies, who might otherwise have had a pretty good shot at winning this game.  Biting spitllama and/or Bubbles could have helped you take out humans or other influences.

4.  spitllama:  This is going to be a pretty short analysis because you were dead when all the major decisions were made during the game.  You did a good job laying low as the guardian, but you seemed a little bit lost as to where the game was going.

5.  Thiannon:  You're probably disappointed in how this turned out, but you actually played pretty well!  You made the strongest case for lynching FSM, and your posts were by far the most content-concentrated of any player.  While you only posted once on Day 1, it was a big post containing a lot of thoughts and ended up lynching a wolf!

6.  davy:  I gave you Wolf MVP not only because you seemed to be the wolf who was calling the shots but because you were a really convincing seer.  This game would probably have gone to the humans if that conch had released its names, but you made sure it didn't by being a convincing seer claim.  You also found the graverobber on Night 1/early Day 1, which is pretty impressive!  The best wolves don't blend in; they stand out because they look like they're helping the human team.  It's really easy to lynch someone who's blending in.  It's much harder to lynch someone who stands out as helpful.  I think you did a really good job of that his game, and I'm scared of facing wolf davy!

7.  The Boy Who Cried Wolf

8. blueflower999:  Your lynch really hurt the humans at the end of the game.  Had that lynch been on FSM rather than you, this would be a different postgame.  The lesson to be learned here is to, as Thiannon puts it, "kick and scream" when you're being lynched.  If you say nothing when being lynched, nobody's going to change their mind.  Kicking and screaming allows for more activity and discussion, and it can't really hurt your chances of getting lynched.  At the very least it makes you look good in the postgame because you didn't stand idly by while being lynched, which unfortunately is pretty frequent!

9. K-NiGhT

10. TheZeldaPianist275:  You were the human who got to play the least this game because spitllama got revived and you didn't.  What I forgot about this game until I reread it was that you were the one who started the Bubbles lynch.  Even if you didn't last long, it was all I can ask and more from a pretty new player who only had one day phase.

11. Bubbles7689

12. Bird:  You killed Blueflower and K-Night, two people who had done nothing to indicate that they were human.  Every single one of your other kills was a wolf or a zombie.  That's absolutely fantastic.  The only decision I can really criticize you for is the decision to give the conch to davy rather than just putting either his or TBWCW's name in it because the conch distinguishes between specials and normal humans!

13. Mashi:  You couldn't really help being seered purple, but a lot of what you did afterwards could easily have been done via Totem, which would have given Maestro 1 or more killers to work with.  You were also pretty brilliant at helping FSM cover his tracks with his false claim, which fooled the humans long enough to give your team a chance!

14. Dude:  Died pretty early, and didn't ever get revived.  Only got to make a safety before then.

15. wolf:  Be more active.  If the humans hadn't already figured out who the wolves were, they probably would have lynched you.

16. FSM-Reapr

General Comments

On whether or not the wolves should have won, I think people are forgetting that a lot didn't go the wolves' way early in the game.  The Bubbles lynch honestly could have fallen on one of a few inactive humans.  Yugi was suspected of being a Zombie rather than a wolf, and davy convinced bird that he was the real seer!  All in all, the wolves played pretty well.

On the other hand, a few humans had some pretty great games too.  That's pretty much guaranteed when only two of the kills that were in human hands were against humans.  Think about that for a second.  That's normally good enough for the humans to win in a normal setup, let alone one where there are six non-humans!  Unfortunately, the humans were bogged down by a lot of inactives, which made it harder to differentiate the wolves and zombies from the humans.  In general, it's really hard to defend yourself as an inactive because you have no posts or actions which indicate your humanity.

The zombies lost because they were a team designed around cooperation and they didn't cooperate, simple as that.  FSM had a great individual performance--but he needed Maestro to make kills, and both of them needed Mashi to unite them earlier with a Totem.

I'm a little disappointed that people didn't take greater advantage of the death post mechanic, and probably won't be using it in the future.  The goal was to have people who were dead decide whether to use it early to prove themselves human or use it late in order to give crucial insight on an important lynch late in the game.  And everyone decided to use it right after they died!  I might have missed it if there was one, but I didn't see a suspicion list anywhere.  This was supposed to be better than a cardflip for the humans, but it turned out to just be a delayed version of a cardflip.

The Werewolf Game / TWG L: Zombies!
March 17, 2013, 02:19:24 PM
TWG:  Zombies!

As I mentioned in my last post here, I'm designing a game in which everyone gets a death posts, except for a few people, that is.  I'm expecting it to function as a pseudo-cardflip, in which people have to weigh the benefits of confirming their humanity with waiting until late in the game to give much-needed insight or push an important suspicion.

Wolves

1.  Master Wolf
2.  Wolf ShamanDoes not get a death post
3.  Wolf Totem:  Once per game, may replace the Totem Guy's Totem with a Totem of his own.  He also gets two guesses of the Totem Guy's identity per day phase.  If the Totem Guy dies or takes over the role of another Zombie, he gets to write ALL the totems.  Does not get a death post

Humans

4.  Guardian:  In order to guard the seer or vigilante, must reduce their power use by 1 each attempted guarding.  He also gets three guesses of the Totem Guy's identity on Day 1.  When he dies, he has one phase to decide who he passes his power to.  If he selects a Wolf or a Zombie, that player will gain a guardian power (with the same limitations) and the ability to choose whether or not their vote counts.  If he selects a human, that player will lose their vote but gain a Guardian ability with the same limitations as the original Guardian.  Does not get a Death post
5.  Seer:  5 uses of power.  May only use one per night.
6.  Vigilante:  3 uses of power.  May only use one per night.  Begins with the Magic Conch!
7.  Human
8.  Human: All human roles are the same.
9.  Human:
10.  Human:
11.  Human:
12.  Human:
13.  Human:

Zombies

14.  Zombie Leader:  Beginning Night 2, he may bite dead bodies. If, on any night, he bites the same player the Grave Robber resurrects, that person becomes a Zombie follower.  The Zombie leader may direct each one of his Zombie followers to kill one person per night.  May not be revived.  Does not know his partners.
15.  Grave Robber:  Beginning Night 2, he may choose one of the people who are in the graveyard each night to resurrect.  If he and the Zombie Leader choose the same person, that person will be revived and kill one person at the command of the Zombie leader PER NIGHT.  If he selects someone the Zombie Leader doesn't pick, that person can just come back to life.  Does not get a death post.  May not be revived.  Does not know his partners.
16.  Totem Guy:  May post a Totem each night.  If, by Day 2, neither the Wolf Totem or Guardian have guessed his identity, he will learn the identities of the Zombie Leader and the Grave Robber.  If either the Zombie Leader or Grave Robber dies, he may take over for them, becoming green as well.  However, he will maintain his Totem abilities.  Does not get a death postMay not be revived.  Does not know his partners.

Now with Magic Conch!

Magic Conch:  Starts with the vigi.  During Night 1, he must pass it to another player.  Let's call that player Jimmy.  During Night 2, Jimmy has two jobs:

First, Jimmy must put two names into the conch.

Second, Jimmy must pass the conch to a third player who cannot be the vigi.  Let's call this person Bobby.  If Jimmy tries to pass the Conch to the vigi, I'll decide who gets it via random number generator.

Bobby may put two names into the conch as well during Night 3.

At the start of Day 3, if neither Jimmy nor Bobby is a wolf, the conch will release the list of the people whose names were put in the Conch and how many of those people are wolves, zombies, specials, and humans, but not which ones go with which roles.  It will also tell the thread that Jimmy and Bobby held the conch.  If one of Jimmy or Bobby is a wolf, the conch will say nothing.  If either Jimmy is killed Night 1 or Day 1 or Bobby is killed Night 2, or Day 2, the conch explodes.  I'll tell the thread if the Conch explodes.

Important notes:
1.  Zombie followers are people resurrected by the Grave Robber and bitten by the Zombie Leader on the same night.  If the Zombie leader bites someone on Night 3 and they're resurrected Night 4 (or vice versa), that person simply comes back to life.  Zombie followers do not count toward the Zombie win condition.
2.  If a person becomes a zombie follower once and is lynched, they aren't automatically a Zombie follower if revived.  They could still theoretically be revived, they just can't be controlled to kill people unless bitten again.
3.  Win Conditions:  The humans win when they eliminate both the wolves and the Zombies.  The wolves win when their number equals the number of humans + the number of Zombies remaining.  The Zombies win when their number equals the number of humans + the number of Wolves remaining.  The Zombies' win condition overrides the wolves' win condition.

4.  spitllama
5.  Thiannon
6.  davy
7.  The Boy Who Cried Wolf

10. TheZeldaPianist275

Replacements:
1.  FSM-Reapr

It is now Night 1.  Night 1 ends on March 19th at 11:59 EST.

Role PM's
Vermilionvermin:  You are the Master Wolf.  You are the only wolf who gets a death post.  Your partners are Vermilionvermin (Shaman) and Vermilionvermin (Totem).
Vermilionvermin:  You are the Wolf Shaman.  You get one seering per night.  You do not get a death post.  Your partners are Vermilionvermin (Master) and Vermilionvermin (Totem)
Vermilionvermin:  You are the Wolf Totem.    Once in the game, you may replace the Totem Guy's message with one of your own.  When the Totem Guy dies, you may commandeer all of the totems, but you won't be notified of his death.  You also get two guesses of the Totem Guy's identity per day phase.  You do not get a death post.  Your partners are Vermilionvermin (Master) and Vermilionvermin (Shaman)
Vermilionvermin:  You are the Guardian.  Keep in mind that, each time you guard the seer or vigi, you decrease his ability to use his power by 1.  When you die, you may choose to pass on your guardian power to another player, whose guardian will have the same effect as your guard.  That player may not pass it down when they die.  If that player is a wolf or a zombie, they will gain the ability to choose not to make their vote count.
Vermilionvermin:  You are the Seer.  You have 5 uses of your power and may only use one per night.  Each night you are guarded, you lose one use of your power.
Vermilionvermin:  You are the Vigilante.  You have 3 uses of your power, and you lose one use of it each time you are guarded.  You have the Magic Conch!

(description of Magic Conch)

Vermilionvermin:  You are a human.
Vermilionvermin:  You are a human.
Vermilionvermin:  You are a human.
Vermilionvermin:  You are a human.
Vermilionvermin:  You are a human.
Vermilionvermin:  You are a human.
Vermilionvermin:  You are a human.
Vermilionvermin:  You are the Zombie Leader.  Each night, beginning Night 2, you may bite one dead body.  If, on that night, you bite the same person the Grave Robber resurrects, that person will become a Zombie Follower.  For every Zombie Follower you have alive at night, you may kill one person.  You may not be revived.
Vermilionvermin:  You are the Grave Robber.  Each night beginning night 2, you may choose one person in the graveyard (dead) that you want to resurrect (revive).  If that person is the same person as selected by the Zombie leader, that person will become a Zombie follower, who does not count toward your win condition.  If the Zombie leader is dead or does not bite the same person you revive, that person will be revived with their normal role.
Vermilionvermin:  You are the Totem Guy.  Each Night, you may post one Totem.  If, by Day 2, neither the Wolf Totem or guardian has guessed your identity, you may learn the names of your pals!  If either one of your friends dies, you may take over for them, becoming green as well (though still maintaining your totem abilities).

The Werewolf Game / Rules And Such
November 04, 2012, 02:23:24 PM
In light of the last game, I think we should have a discussion about some of the rules of TWG, namely Who's Online "stalking" and screenshots.

My own views on the two are that we don't need any rule against Who's Online but that screenshots shouldn't be allowed at all.

I know some people have been clamoring for a ban on watching Who's Online, but I don't think it's practical.  It's hard to determine what would be against the rules if we were to institute one.  Would it be illegal to use information gathered from Who's Online to look for more reasons to suspect someone?  Is it OK to subtly hint that you saw someone viewing a PM without saying it?  There's a lot of gray area and I don't think a ban would cover it.

Instead, I think there are ways of dealing with it.  As gzgregory did last game (and I did too, as host), it's possible to hide your online status permanently.  There's a setting under Profile I think.  There are other ways of getting around it as well, such as sending emails and such.

On screenshots, I can't think of a way in which they help the game.  I think a lot of TWG is based on whether or not people are believable, and screenshotting something in order to prove authenticity undercuts that.  It also makes use of photoshop a part of TWG, which I'd really like to avoid.

I'd like your thoughts on these two issues.

The Werewolf Game / TWG XLII: Waluigi Time! Postgame
November 03, 2012, 07:16:49 PM
Waluigi Time

TEAM WOLVES

1. King Boo:  Wolf Shaman.  Has an extra coin.
2. Bowser with a sniper (Master Wolf Sniper): May snipe a person of his choice, who will immediately die in the middle of any phase. Any powers that the sniped person might have used in between the time the PM is sent and I update are void. Suppresses Daisy's power. One-time use. Also seered green.
3. Kamek:  He has 0 coins and may not be revived.  He's also a fun wolf who can do one of two things each night phase.
1.  Direct the power of his choosing to a player of his choosing.  Like "I want Vermilionvermin to use his power on mastergamer_38."  This works for King Boo's seering, Luigi's Seering, Mario's Vigilante, Peach's Guarding, and Waluigi's Vigilante.  He may only use this once on each player.  For example, he may, on a future phase, redirect mastergamer_38's power to Vermilionvermin, but may never redirect Vermilionvermin's power ever again.
2.  Give a random player a bomb.  I will announce at the beginning of the day phase which player has the bomb.  During the day phase, that player may throw the bomb at whatever player they choose.  That player will die.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

TEAM HUMANS

4. Luigi:  Seer
5. Mario:  A vigi who loses his power to kill anyone but Waluigi, Daisy, and Donkey Kong after Night 2.  If he tries to kill someone after Night 2 other than those three roles, he will be arrested and burned at the stake.  That means he dies.
6. Peach (Guardian & Coroner): sees Wario and Waluigi as green, only gets lynching death reports.  May not guard herself and may only guard during the night.
7. Daisy: Thinks she's a normal human. Will receive a PM upon death notifying her of her role. May choose to reveal the role of one person after she dies.  May not be revived.
8. Toadsworth:  He gives Wario an extra coin.  Thinks he's a normal human.
9. Yoshi:  Thinks he's a normal human.
10. Baby Mario:  Does not owe Wario any money.  Thinks he's a normal human.
11. Baby Luigi:  Does not owe Wario any money.  Thinks he's a normal human.
12. Toad:  Thinks he's a normal human.
13. Donkey Kong: Thinks he's a normal human. If lynched, will appear to be a normal human.  Has an extra coin.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

TEAM WARIO

14. Wario: Third-party role. Wario's a really greedy guy, and everyone owes him money.  He brings people back from the dead in order to steal their money.  During every night phase, he may choose to revive one player.  That player must be dead already. Unless otherwise stated, each person in the game has one coin, and Wario will collect all coins from every player he revives.  Wario wins if he collects three coins' worth of profit.  If he wants, he can find out the number of coins everyone owes him on Night 1.  That information will increase the number of coins he needs to win to 4.   Each person can only give Wario coins once. The game does not end if he wins, but in celebration of his MARVELOUS VICTORY he will kill Mario, Luigi, Peach, or Daisy, chosen at random. On the night Waluigi comes back to life, he may get the coins from the person he revives but they won't come back to life.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

TEAM WALUIGI

15. Waluigi:  Third-party role.  His goal is to survive until the final two, and his victory overrides that of the humans or the wolves. He may choose what color he is seered every Night phase. He may be vigi'd, but is immune from wolfings. If he is lynched, he will automatically revive the next night phase and gain a vigi power.  This may only occur once.  Any future lynchings will result in PERMANENT DEATH 4EVER (even if Wario revives him, it will fail).  WALUIGI TIME occurs when everyone but Waluigi and one other person is alive.  Only Waluigi wins during Waluigi time (unless Wario has already won, then both of them can win).  Waluigi can only win with Waluigi time.

1.  the_last_sheikah:  Wario
2.  FSM-Reapr:  Waluigi
3.  Bird:  Yoshi
4.  Gzgregory:  Daisy
5.  Socialfox:  King Boo
6.  BlackDragonSlayer:  Donkey Kong
7.  Shadowkirby:  Baby Luigi
8.  The Boy who Cried Wolf:  Kamek
9.  Mashi:  Toad
10.  Dude:  Mario
11.  Spitllama:  Peach
12.  Blueflower999:  Baby Mario
13.  K-Night:  Bowser with a Sniper
14.  Bubbles7689:  Toadsworth
15.  ETFROXX:  Luigi

TEAM HUMANS

4. Luigi:  Seer

TEAM WARIO

The Werewolf Game / Change to the TWG Voting System?
October 06, 2012, 09:14:01 PM
I was about altering the way we choose which TWG gets chosen.  Traditionally, we've gone with a poll system.  I haven't consulted on whether Mashi would be okay with this or not, but I think there'd be a better way to make sure more people got what they wanted.

I think the current voting system is flawed.  Because people can see how others voted, they're more likely to vote for ones which others have voted for in order to make their vote more likely to "count".  People only voting for one game means that a game which is adored by some but hated by most is too likely to get picked.

I think a ranking of the games is a better idea in general because it would result in people thinking beyond which game they'd most like to play.  I think it could also help activity in games because if people have ranked the game, they've probably thought about strategy in it to some degree.  That would also lead to more effective feedback on the game, and hosts being able to determine how popular their game is (and whether or not to continue nominating it).

There are two ways to go about ranking the games.

One would be to send your rankings to the TWC who opened the Host Signup topic.  The pros of this system are people not getting their feelings hurt when their games don't get picked and people not altering their rankings based on the rankings of others.  The cons are hosts getting less feedback and the TWC getting access to information that others don't.

The other is posting the rankings in the thread.  This allows the host to get feedback on their game, but it means people are more likely to alter their rankings based on what others have ranked the games.

Thoughts?
