I talk about this show at school with a few friends and watch it with my family. Does anyone watch this show? It appears on ABC? It is a fantastic show, I believe, and decided to bring it to the forums!

Music / Nintendo Medley?
June 08, 2011, 08:51:36 PM
So, I've actually had this idea for several years, and I need to start SOON if I plan to finish it before January of 2012. I used to have a "Queue" of songs I wanted to arange for my senior year for my High School band, but i never got a chance to start. It was a very LONG list which i know i wont get anywhere near to doing at least 1/10 of what i wanted. (However, I did get a chance to start a few; the Dr. Mario (Fever) arrangement for marching band as well as the Mortal Kombat Theme. and including a Donkey Kong Arrangement for Jazz Band) I was thinking for me senior year that I would arrange one (if not, two) Symphonic Band pieces relating to Nintendo. I've gone through ideas such as a Zelda Medley, to just doing the Hyrule Field Theme, to (now slightly inspired by Tangy) arrange a medley of songs; but if I did a medley, I'd like to play enough of the song that the section could be identified instead of jump from this to that quickly.

That being said, similar to Tangy's thread, what songs do you think would be suitable for a fairly medium-large sized arrangment?

One of my ideas, Zelda themed, was to start off, say, with the Kokiri Forest Theme from OOT, merge into another song from the game, go into the Hyrule Field Theme, maybe some Ganon or something, etc. I really liked both Hyrule Field themes from OOT and TP, and thought that the OOT version would be more recognizable for fans in my school and band.

I'm hoping to hit several different series, like Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Kirby, etc? If an overall Nintendo medley was decided.

Lastly, I was thinking of a way to feature all the seniors in my band (me included), and I thought we could maybe have a small solo section for their specific instrument? like either Solo or Soli? like, maybe trumpets for a Pokemon section, Low Brass for a Mario section, etc? But please, let me hear your thoughts and suggestions! :)

Off-Topic / Perception...
October 24, 2009, 11:45:31 AM
Wasn't sure if this would be the best forum to put this in.

Anyway, I found this article sad but very true:

Perception

..something to think about...

Washington, DC Metro Station on a cold January morning in 2007. The man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time approx. 2 thousand people went through the station, most of them on their way to work. After 3 minutes a middle aged man noticed there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried to meet his schedule.

4 minutes later:
the violinist received his first dollar: a woman threw the money in the hat and, without stopping, continued to walk.

6 minutes:
A young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again.

10 minutes:
A 3-year old boy stopped but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. Every parent, without exception, forced their children to move on quickly.

45 minutes:
The musician played continuously. Only 6 people stopped and listened for a short while. About 20 gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of $32.

1 hour:
He finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 million dollars. Two days before Joshua Bell sold out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100.

This is a true story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people's priorities. The questions raised: in a common place environment at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context?

One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be this: If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever made.... How many other things are we missing?

Help! / Finale page sizes
September 21, 2009, 02:55:50 PM
ok, me and a friend have this problem.... with Finale 2009.....

so we have a piece(s) of music for our Marching Band that we'd like to print out, but the only problem is, we'd like to make the parts smaller. The default of a marching band piece is that it will automatically have the sheet set up so when you either edit the individual parts or print them they are a half a page. but that's still too big for us. so how can you make the parts smaller so that, perhaps, more measures can fit (or even the whole song) on about a half a sheet of paper?

lots of thanks for whoever can answer this... :)

Help! / Finale questions
August 15, 2009, 10:14:58 AM
k, so im putting music from a score into finale, and need some help with decifering it and how to enter it in.

k, for one, this is all for Marching Band....

1. k, so, one problem is on the Bass Line, there are slashes over the middle two spaces......does that just mean that those two drums are being played at the same time?

2. what does it mean when there are slashes through the notes on the Snare and Cymbal Line? and how can i get that into Finale...like playback wise

3. on the snare line, on the first space ( the "E" spot) on the score it shows what looks like a little triangle.....not a perfect triangle, it kinda looks like a 30-60-90 triangle, if u know what i mean. what is it, and how can i enter it in and have it playback?

4. aaand, on the Cymbal line.... can someone tell me the difference between these different cymbals? k, so on the score on the "B" line, it will sometimes show an "x" and a regular note......same goes for the "A" space......thank you. :)

thank for anyone that can help, this would be greatly appreciated....

EDIT: or maybe just in general, how to use the Marching Percussion Template/ Mapping stuff....

Off-Topic / Favorite/Dream Car
July 25, 2009, 07:04:33 PM
the car Id like to have when i can drive is a 1969 dodge Charger. Reason? cuz its the same car as the General Lee, from the Dukes of Hazzard. id love to be able to make one look like it. also considerin, my uncle is John Schneider, who played Bo Duke in the orginal show, so it would be cool to have a replica of it. :D
id love to also make the same Dixie horn like in the original car, :D

post your dream cars here :P

Help! / Lyrics

When putting lyrics under notes, is it possible, during playback, to have those notes not play?
in other words, for that section where there are lyrics, have it be silent?

Nintendo / Online Brawling
January 30, 2009, 08:49:55 PM
you know what's really fun to do while online brawling?
ok, i found this out not too long ago. It's fun to make friends online, with random people!
when i first noticed that more people would go to the edge of a stage and just start doing 'up, down, up, down, up, down, etc. it as pretty funny. Now, every other match some one does it. and if u do it too, u become their friend and they actually dont kill u they go for anyone else that doesnt. :D

and if u end up in a sudden death match with em, sometimes they die with u or try to stand out as long as they can.

it gets really fun ^_^ especially when they get behind u when u r ready to use your final smash against the others.
try it sometime! :)

o, and, lol, if u accidentaly get killed by the friend, they sometimes kill themselves so its as if it never happened ^_^

Music / Band Arrangements?
January 25, 2009, 02:07:04 PM
ok, so i already brought in a Bob-Omb Battlefield arrangement for Jazz Band which i hope we get to use.

but now i want to arrange a song for next year, literally, 2010. it's too late to bring in a song for this year, i also dont have time. And considering we dont start Symphonic band till second semester, then i have plenty of time! ^_^

ok, i was thinking either of these two: and Ocarina of Time Medley, or a Super Mario Galaxy medley/song.
(or anything else really good that comes out before that time)

maybe anything else from Nintendo? but mainly from these two.

Any ideas?
