Music / Re: Instrumentation

Quote from: Brassman388 on March 15, 2009, 10:35:08 AMWhat's this for and what do mean by double flutes and such?
Some suite I'm writing.
The doubling means that the same person plays two or more instruments during a piece. For example, in this, 3rd flute plays both flute and piccolo. (not at the same time) It's meant to have to pay less people and to avoid said people not doing anything.

Music / Instrumentation

Ugh. I forgot to figure out the instrumentation for this thing I'm writing for full orchestra. So, I figure out the instrumentation, and this is what came out:
4 Flutes (3rd doubles Piccolo, 4th doubles Alto Saxophone in Eb)
3 Oboes
English Horn
3 Clarinets in Bb (3rd doubles Clarinet in Eb)
Bass Clarinet
3 Bassoons
4 Horns in F
3 Trumpets in C
3 Tenor Trombones (3rd doubles Euphonium)
4 Timpani (One player)
Harp
Celesta
16 Violins 1
14 Violins 2
10 Violas
10 Cellos
8 Double Basses

... I don't think this quite works out. Any suggestions?

Yeah, I really want to arrange some of these, and play them.

Jupiter (the Bringer of Jollity)- DDR
Route 120- Pokemon Ruby/ Sapphire
Abandoned Ship- Pokemon Ruby/ Sapphire

Calling to the Night- Metal Gear Solid - On site

So, yeah, if you could Arrange any of these, that would be great.

I'm actually beginning to learn Trombone. It's in the shop to get cleaned and undented and polished and restored... I miss it...

Quote from: HugoMeister on February 21, 2009, 11:39:51 AMI wonder how many of these topics I've voted in. Probably a good amount.

Anyway, I'm a violist, violinist, and pianist. (although I practically suck at the latter.)

My viola's name is Dropkick. ^-^ (don't ask)
It's good to know I'm not the only one who names their instruments. I feel less insane. The only one that is somewhat funny is the Bassoon. His name is Jammal the Inflator. I inflate balloons with it.

Music / What Instrment(s) Do you play?

I didn't see this anywhere.

I play:
Piccolo, Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Bassoon, Harp (the stringed one), and Piano. I'm actually okay at most of them, except Piccolo.
So, what instrument(s) do you play?

Music / Help with writing
February 19, 2009, 08:48:37 PM
Hello.
I was commissioned by my band director (after arranging http://www.mediafire.com/?mwjtj2nthzy, an arrangement of "Saturn, The Bringer Of Old Age" from "The Planets") to write a four movement symphony. "We need more music," he says. So, I get to the Scherzo (3rd Movement) and get completely stuck. Any help with writing Scherzos in particular? (I can never write them. They always turn out terribly dark and heavy.)
http://www.mediafire.com/?yyztn4nnzmm< There it is. Very beginning of Scherzo there.
