Off-Topic / Post Your Keyboard/Instrument Setups!
« on: August 14, 2009, 08:06:18 PM »
This is kinda along the lines of the "Post Yer' Gaming/Computer Setups" thread, but for musical instruments!  :o ;D

K. To start things off, I have a Yamaha PSR-290, an M-Audio SP-2 Sustain Pedal, and a generic stand and bench in my room.  We also have a Wurlitzer mahogany baby grand in our living room.  They've served me well since I was about 10, but now that I'm going off to college, I wanted a keyboard with 88 fully weighted keys to practice and continue playing on.

So... today I ordered my brand spankin new Korg M50-88;D
I has the graded hammer action keys, the full keyboard, and a lot of the other features I was looking for.  It doesn't have speakers, so I'm gonna pick up the Behringer KT108 15-Watt Keyboard Amplifier to go with it, as well as a slightly sturdier stand

So what about you? what do you play on?

Off-Topic / Re: Meaning behind your usernames
« on: July 30, 2009, 06:33:48 PM »
When I first created my username I thought it was awesome. It flowed, it was unique, and at the time, it seemed relatively not uncool. Now however, a good 10 years later, I am actually kind of embarrassed by it. I keep it only because that is what I use for everything, and that is how everybody knows me. Plus it is also somewhat hard to... decipher.  I will not reveal it's origins in this post, but if you feel like guessing, go ahead. I may even let you know if you guess correctly.

Great Halo arrangement!  Its good to see someone finally working on it.  Halo's soundtrack is definately underated.  Keep up the good work!  ;)

Thanks. I think for the time being I'm going to focus on getting a lot of the FFIII sheets done since there were absolutely none, hence my newest sheet. It's short and kinda boring, but I've been busy etc. so ya. Anyway, I really like the kind of atmospheric themes in a lot of the songs on the halo soundtracks so I'll prolly do some more of those after I fill out some of the FFIII section.

Here's mine   :-\

[NDS] - Final Fantasy III - "A Dancer's Dance" - Nobuo Uematsu (.mus) (.mid)

I know... It's really freaking lame... but I've been busy plus I don't have my keyboard with me atm, so meh. There you go. This is a direct transcription of the mp3 from the OST.

Also, if anyone has any helpful hints on better formatting of the red notes, it would be greatly appreciated. all the random colored rests everywhere kinda bug me, but idk if there is anything I can do about them... -.- I guess if you can help you can PM me or something.

Nintendude73: Ah!  It's Dance of the Little Swans!  Just like in Little King's Story, hehe.  I made the red notes look a little nicer (and moved some to the first layer, you can see what I changed when I upload it), plus added quotes to the song title.  I must be in a good mood to fix all that. ;) It's accepted.

Swordomar: Thanks... I'll work some on my red note technique XP.  More FFIII to come. sry about the quotes -.-

Nintendude73: Haha, no worries.  The quotes are really not a huge deal, that takes all of 10 seconds to fix. :P

[Xbox] - Halo 2 - "Unforgotten" - Martin O'Donnell & Michael Salvatori (.mus) (.mid)

I hope I got the formatting right this time. Let me know if I didn't.

Nintendude73: Perfectly formatted and accepted.  Nice work.

Swordomar: Cool, thanks. BTW: not that it really matters, but on my last submission (final fantasy III "Doga and Unei Theme") you put it up as "Umei" instead of "Unei". I don't know if you want to fix it or not, but I'm just letting you know.

Nintendude73: Ack, sorry, I'll fix that.

Swordomar: Thanks  ;D

New song up. It'd be greatly appreciated if you want to give some feedback. When putting the copyright, should I leave it as the developers: Bungie, or should I change to the publishers: Microsoft? Also, how do you format ritardando? I used the expression tool and clicked at the beginning of the measure I wanted to start slowing down, but when I play through it, it doesnt slow down?

I really like this piece. It's pretty easy yet sounds good and has a lot of feeling.

Anyway, more to come. Prolly more FFIII, but we'll see.

Here's mine:

Submission:
[NDS] - Final Fantasy III - "Doga and Unei Theme" - Nobuo Uematsu (.mus) (.mid)

Nintendude73: Accepted, thank you.  Only problems were some nitpicky formatting issues.  And for copyright, please format it as "Company (C) Year Published."  I fixed it for you this time.

In Doga and Unei Theme...
Measure 32 has a doubled E natural in both Treble and Bass Clef.
Numbers were weird...I'm assuming which fingers to use...but still look...out of place.
Sounds accurate...weird how it ends on C Major triad...and the whole piece is basically in F. But oh wellz. Not your fault, ha.

*fixed the doubled E's. thanks for spotting that.

The numbers are fingering... I figured they were somewhat useful.  Why do they look odd? I could change them if you have a better idea for placement or something. i noticed the ending triad being different than the rest of the piece too, but I left it because my only goal here was to copy the piece exactly as I heard it, not arrange it.

WOOOO FF3 MUSIC

Indeed. I noticed a lack of it and decided to do my favorite piece from the game, this theme.  I'm considering doing "Noah's Lute" next, but maybe an arrangement of it since it's too short to submit as a direct transcription. We'll see.

It would be cool if it was a compilation of the "final fantasy IV: the after years" re-made in the same style as "FF:IV DS"

Ya...

Thanks. I added the midi files for the songs, as well as updating the sheets to the new site URL.

Also, though it takes a couple extra seconds, you can open the .mus files in finale reader (its free- link in my sig).  Though the midis may be faster and more convenient, I prefer the .mus because you can get a better feel for the difficulty of the piece when actually looking at the sheets. Just my opinion though  ::)

Nintendo / Re: Golden Sun DS
« on: June 03, 2009, 04:10:15 PM »
I'll post here what I did on the E3 topic.

The Golden Sun games taught me to love RPGs, and to this day are, IMHO, the most well rounded and fun RPGs I have ever owned.  From the incredible graphics (The summons looked epic despite the fact that it was GBA based), the deep, emotional, enticing storyline, the amazigly composed music which perfectly accompanied both the happiest and saddest parts of that story, to the battle system, length of the adventure, even replayability (and transfer between GS1 and GS2). To hear that Camelot and Nintendo finally decided to do another Golden Sun game is some of, if not the, greatest gaming news of my life. I almost got teary eyed  :'( watching the trailer i was so happy.  And even though the demo at e3 has almost literally 10 seconds of play time, IGN seems to be pretty impressed with it (http://ds.ign.com/articles/989/989845p1.html).

Here's to hoping it's the best one yet.

3 words: GOLDEN SUN DS!

Holy crap. Greatest gaming news of my LIFE.

YUP.  I was actually composing some stuff on it today before I found this thread.  The lack of more synths, polyphony, and better drums are kinda annoying, but for $30 I certainly can't complain.  Prolly up there in my top 3 DS titles.  Absolutely love it
