So as I am currently discussing in the Discord chat, a fair few NSM members like the idea of having a Discord movie night some time. Historically I tend to see these done on Fridays but we can be variable!
How this works: There's a website called https://cytu.be/ where, basically, you can drop a movie in and everyone who is connected to that page (you don't need an account) will be able to watch it, and it will be synced up between all users. If the account holder pauses it, it gets paused for everyone, making it convenient to work with for large crowds.
It accepts video formats from Youtube, Dailymotion, and Vimeo at least, idk about other sites. So in other words, if we want to watch a movie via cytube, it will need to be available on one of these sites.
If you're interested, go ahead and post here with:
-TIMES you are available. We'd prefer weekend days to accommodate as many people as possible. Be sure to include TIME ZONE in your post.
-MOVIES you'd like to see. Please try to ascertain that you can find these on some video site before posting.
... that's about it. Who's in?
This sounds fun. If you guys would be ok with it, I'd join.
Never not the Lego movie
In for any weekend
I don't care what movie, but maybe Monty Python's The Holy Grail
wtf is a movie
A film, Wah.
Edit: This must be a regional thing. Sorry, Wah, I forgot.
Motion picture, cinema, film, feature?
Aussie probably use cinema
what are any of these
It's something that you chew on
Please understand, Waluigi claims to be from Australia. A man as confused as that can't be expected to understand what motion pictures are.
motion pictures? did you mean gif
Part of me says Wah is pulling our legs here.
i hate to interrupt this quality conversation about the metaphysical properties of movies but what times/dates work for ppl
i won't be available for it until about 3 weeks from now

part of me says that that should've been obvious from the start
I'm available most Saturday nights for watching movies except for this Saturday. Here's some suggestions I have:
- The Room
- Super Mario Bros. (Movie)
- Cool Cat Saves the Kids
- Fateful Findings
- The Amazing Bulk

Well I figured this could be like a recurring weekly/biweekly/monthly thing anyway so I'm just looking for like, generalized "friday nights are usually fine" and stuff. The actual participants can be variable from night to night.

My musical schedule starts in two weeks. I'll only be able to work with weekend nights.

no
QuoteWilly Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the good one)
ftfy
I maintain the one with Johnny depp is better than the gene wilder one because depp fits the character a lot better and the oompa loompas aren't obnoxious
you're only saying that because you stole fizzy lifting drinks and got nothing and lost
You're only saying that because your daddy didn't get you a squirrel
Quote from: NocturneOfShadow on September 06, 2017, 06:08:44 PMdepp fits the character a lot better
u wot m8
Quoteand the oompa loompas aren't obnoxious
i think you (also) have the two films mixed up in that regard
because the ones in the remake are super annoying
I think the new ones are funny. The old ones were ugly and I really disliked the songs
Gene wilder tried for sure, but he still seems down to earth all the time (maybe just my perception) whereas Johnny depp is whimsical and childish at times
I'm taking the ACT Saturday, but other than that I should be available most Saturdays.
As far as movies:
-The Shawshank Redemption
-Slumdog Millionaire
-Interstellar

Hey, we actually agree on something.
So we decided that I'll be hosting instead of Alti because she has real life stuff she's busy with(unlike me)
Also, anime is also a possibility. I'd be cool with hosting the Ghost Stories english dub.
For those unaware: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iDtR1yKJM0
That sounds like a good time
if we're watching dubbed anime I'd do it in a voice chat because I like mimicking the overdramatic lines

I went to my library's anime club once. They muted the volume and I just watched as they all read the lines in a silly fashion.

that's just wrong on every level
the new ones are generic and don't seem anything close to like what i would imagine an enigmatic yet knowledgeable group of people from a foreign land might be like
the original oompa loompas nailed that aspect perfectly
QuoteGene wilder tried for sure, but he still seems down to earth all the time (maybe just my perception) whereas Johnny depp is whimsical and childish at times
Gene Wilder was very whimsical, from the first scene you see him in. At the same time, he also seemed like an actual person. Johnny Depp was just wacky, which isn't necessarily bad, but just not really as nuanced, so-to-say.
Danny Elfman's music is not generic
Also please don't call it a remake lmao it's just a different adaptation of Roald Dahl's book (and a better, more accurate one I might add)
Quote from: SlowPokemon on September 06, 2017, 07:46:56 PMDanny Elfman's music is not generic
I didn't say the music was generic. That being said, I'm not really a fan of the Oompa Loompa's music either, but it has its own problems.
QuoteAlso please don't call it a remake lmao it's just a different adaptation of Roald Dahl's book (and a better, more accurate one I might add)
i'll call it what i want
the original is so much more organic and nuanced in pretty much every aspect
ewwww slow stop agreeing with me
Wow, I don't usually see a topic reach 3 pages in this small amount of time.
Yeah, that's actually a bit surprising.
While we all agree that it's weird we're actually making it approach four pages
i contributed nothing and it's on the fourth page with two posts
hey, now there's three. would you look at that.
Still on one page for me
Will it be at a time when I can watch too?
Quote from: AmpharosAndy on September 07, 2017, 01:18:31 AMWill it be at a time when I can watch too?
I dunno maybe if you tell us what times you are available we could try to pick a time that works for you too.
That goes for everyone. You can't just say "I'd like to do this" and have it be enough.
Come on, guys. I even put that in the first post. It shouldn't be my job to have to tell you to do things that should be common sense.
If it's a movie "night" over there then it'll be a movie "midday" over here. I don't mind that because if it's on Friday over there then it'll be Saturday over here.
For once, I may actually be free this Friday night. After tomorrow, though, I'll be working every Friday and Saturday night, and since I have an Actual M-F Day Jobâ„¢ now I can't really do it during the week unless it's fairly early
Times for me are good generally from 10AM-4PM CST, but my parents are extremely unpredictable. As far as something this Friday night goes, how late would we be talking? Because Ima try to go to sleep around 9PM CST so I can get enough sleep for the ACT
I mean you can leave at any time haha. But probably like, idk, 8 eastern I'd imagine??? or something? I'm not in charge anymore tho
I'm down for that
I can usually host around 3pm~10pm pst on weekdays, 7am~10pm on saturdays, and 4pm~10pm pst on sundays.
This Friday and Saturday though unfortunately it's looking like I'll be busy and unable to host(won't be at home for a while)
I'm down for any movie if we're up for it this weekend.

come with me, and you'll see, a world of pure imagination
Oh since someone mentioned the Shawshank Redemption, the guy who plays the second-in-command head guard is the voice of Mr. Krabs and he is amazing
Clancy Brown. You're welcome.
Quote from: LeviR.star on September 07, 2017, 04:16:32 PMClancy Brown. You're welcome.
Yes, I realized that.
He never gets enough serious roles, he's great at acting but gets stuck in small roles like in Flubber, wish someone would pick him up for something. If they ever did a blood meridian adaptation he would be good as the Judge imo.
Let's binge watch anime
