Great, your arrangements are very solid! Good surprise given that you're relatively new. Maybe you already arranged something before joining? Anyway, very good job.

This one was kinda tricky to arrange... It's not perfect yet, I still have to fix up some of the chords and the bassline, both of which are hard to hear. However, I think it came out fairly well.

[SNES] Chrono Trigger - "Battle 2"

This one was pretty short, but I enjoyed working on it quite a bit. The accompaniment in this one is a little awkward to notate and read, so I incorporated those harmonies into the main melody line more, as well as added some of my own harmonies for a thicker texture in some areas (the chords are all the same as the original of course). I think it came out rather well overall!

Also, I'd like to thank anyone and everyone who has replied to this thread or read it so far; I really appreciate you stopping by to check out my arrangements! Plenty more will come soon.

I've always wanted to do this song ever since I noticed its curiously not on-site yet, so here it is!

This one was kind of a pain to do because of all the different parts, but I think it came out all right. Also, I'm not really too sure on the chords in this one. Feedback of course would be greatly appreciated!

Excellent, as always. I can't wait to hear the other song you mentioned.

Edit: as to why no one arranged it yet, it's simply because it's so hard to fit all the important voices in, and you did a remarkable job of it.

Post by: Static on September 17, 2016, 08:51:54 PM
Yay, a double update! (also I probably should've posted this before editing the op but whatever lol)

[SNES] EarthBound - "Battle Against a Weak Opponent"
[.MID] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/1b9sqee3s7vao3k/EarthBound%20-%20Battle%20Against%20a%20Weak%20Opponent.mid?raw=1) [.MUS] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/d4m9pdpd49kak23/EarthBound%20-%20Battle%20Against%20a%20Weak%20Opponent.mus?raw=1) [.MUSX] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/9653zw1nnas2vlq/EarthBound%20-%20Battle%20Against%20a%20Weak%20Opponent.musx?raw=1) [.PDF] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/pf1wq6787rmtaat/EarthBound%20-%20Battle%20Against%20a%20Weak%20Opponent.pdf?raw=1) [Original] (https://youtu.be/qlgYRMPg86M)

I've actually had this one almost finished for a few months now, I just never got around to polishing it. The only thing I'm still concerned about are the time changes, as in the original, the small pauses in the music are each a slightly different length. I'm not entirely sure how accurate this actually is, but I tried my best (I even notated some of the percussion parts sort of).

[SNES] Chrono Trigger - "Tyran Castle"
[.MID] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/r7tupcg326k4ucq/Chrono%20Trigger%20-%20Tyran%20Castle.mid?raw=1) [.MUS] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/knkmk25jgcza6kl/Chrono%20Trigger%20-%20Tyran%20Castle.mus?raw=1) [.MUSX] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/8alhqxrxy2cpbrh/Chrono%20Trigger%20-%20Tyran%20Castle.musx?raw=1) [.PDF] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/m7x7pewvcqy25zu/Chrono%20Trigger%20-%20Tyran%20Castle.pdf?raw=1) [Original] (https://youtu.be/0w4iOQcAyGQ)

Now this one was fun. I'm really not too sure of the key in bars 27-34, and also I'm not sure how to notate the last section (especially bars 43-44 and 49-50) without it looking strange. Any feedback on this one in particular would be immensely helpful.

Also, thanks Maelstrom!
Title: Re: Static's Arrangements - NEW: Midas River (SMRPG & Spring Blossoms (ACCF)
Post by: Static on September 27, 2016, 05:29:54 AM
Another nice double update:
[Wii] Animal Crossing: City Folk - "Spring Blossoms"
[.MID] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/9856nk71ai7g2ze/Animal%20Crossing%20City%20Folk%20-%20Spring%20Blossoms.mid?raw=1) [.MUS] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/4q8zy3z25xd15zr/Animal%20Crossing%20City%20Folk%20-%20Spring%20Blossoms.mus?raw=1) [.MUSX] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/lr643epy73cyawx/Animal%20Crossing%20City%20Folk%20-%20Spring%20Blossoms.musx?raw=1) [.PDF] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/r4i1dspp4smkfla/Animal%20Crossing%20City%20Folk%20-%20Spring%20Blossoms.pdf?raw=1) [Original] (https://youtu.be/yI0IYYvx4QA)

I've always wanted to do this one because I really love the chord progression and changes, I don't really know how else to explain other than that it sounds really cool. I still have to check this one over for slight rhythmic inaccuracies but it's in overall good shape at the moment.

This sheet needs a replacement badly. (http://www.ninsheetmusic.org/download/pdf/421) I fixed up the title, completely cleaned up the L.H. part to make it consistent and more comfortable to play, and I replaced those weird 32nd note things with tremolos for a much easier to read sheet. This was again a lot of fun to work on (just like many of my other sheets lol), and I think it came out really nicely! I might do some other SMRPG fixes in the future maybe...

Also, this is unrelated, but I now have over 20 arrangements on this thread, so that's pretty cool.

Excellent work!
I've been wanting a replacement of this song FOREVER. Nice job.
Thanks, glad you like it!

Now here's another interesting new sheet that came out of nowhere:

[PC] Touhou 12: Undefined Fantastic Object - "Interdimensional Voyage of a Ghostly Passenger Ship"
[.MID] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/frnuoc6o3492hs2/Ghost%20Ship.mid?raw=1) [.MUS] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/hvom6ogg5cx99x9/Ghost%20Ship.mus?raw=1) [.MUSX] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/9ofboro681wv5ib/Ghost%20Ship.musx?raw=1) [.PDF] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/q94kd5b5ecnhuvq/Ghost%20Ship.pdf?raw=1) [Original] (https://youtu.be/ofuPQIPotn0)

I usually try to stick by my plans, but often I get sidetracked by other songs I really like; this happened to be one of them. This song was quite the challenge, but I think it came out pretty nicely. I'm still not really sure on a lot of the chords, so I'll be revisiting and revising this sheet in the future. Very fun song, though.

YES. My favourite song from this game!

This song was quite the challenge, but I think it came out pretty nicely. I'm still not really sure on a lot of the chords, so I'll be revisiting and revising this sheet in the future. Very fun song, though.
Welp... revision time:

Due to the nature of the song, an arrangement full of creative liberties is practically a given, and I like what you've done with it. The chords from M.53-68 are definitely a nice example. Some of the chords in earlier sections could have some work though:

Massive Image Wall with Some of the Chords
M.11-12:

M.15-16:

M.23-24:

M.35-36:
[close]

Also an important chord thing I didn't make an image of: Every time a measure similar to M.10 appears, the notes are playing octaves; there is no extra chord (like the ones you have in half-notes). Yes, this includes the section with the trumpets.

I don't know how this works, but apparently there's a way to make the left hand and right hand have separate audio channels. This is mainly important for M.69-72, but it only really concerns MIDI playback, so it might not be a worthwhile investment of time.

In the same measures, the "p" marking should probably be "ppp", because that's how quiet it sounds, which - unlike the previous suggestion - actually does affect how a pianist would read it.

I would give criticism for M.72-74, but I can't figure out those note values either. I would probably just throw "ad. lib" onto there or something, unless someone can be bothered to figure it out.

Besides that, I really like what you did with this arrangement! It kept that strange feel which the original song had. Nice work!

Thanks for taking a look at the sheet and pointing out those chords! I fixed them in that first melody section and also in the melody later in the sheet.
Also an important chord thing I didn't make an image of: Every time a measure similar to M.10 appears, the notes are playing octaves; there is no extra chord (like the ones you have in half-notes). Yes, this includes the section with the trumpets.

Fixed this in measures 10, 14, 18, and 22, but I kept the chords in  measures 54, 58, 62, and 66 because there to be a richer and fuller-sounding part in that section, like in the original. I added to a lot of other chords in that Dm section as well.

I don't know how this works, but apparently there's a way to make the left hand and right hand have separate audio channels. This is mainly important for M.69-72, but it only really concerns MIDI playback, so it might not be a worthwhile investment of time.

Thanks for catching this; I meant to create separate channels, but I completely forgot to do it lol.

In the same measures, the "p" marking should probably be "ppp", because that's how quiet it sounds, which - unlike the previous suggestion - actually does affect how a pianist would read it.

Done.

I would give criticism for M.72-74, but I can't figure out those note values either. I would probably just throw "ad. lib" onto there or something, unless someone can be bothered to figure it out. [/size]

I'll look into this later and see if I can find a more distinct rhythm. I might just end up adding the ad. lib there instead, but idk yet.

The stuff in bold are my responses. Thanks again for reviewing the sheet!

Any time. If I see Touhou/something else I'm interested in, I will likely review it.

Also two things:

When I said the thing about M.10, I meant those 8th notes are playing octaves. Sorry, that's on me for not clarifying/showing an image.

You did separate the audio channels, but for some reason the crescendo doesn't function. That's probably due to the placement of the "mp". I think having a second hidden "mp" on top of the right hand should fix this, but I'm not entirely sure.

This song just sounds so happy, making a really weird contrast to the events in the area, but it's also quite catchy. For the L.H., I tried incorporating both the guitar and bass parts into one single part, and I think it worked really nicely.

This song is just really weird overall. Its in 13/8, the key constantly changes although I think it's still C minor (a second opinion on this would be nice). I'm also not really sure on the beat groupings; I just sort of used the drums cuz thats all I really had to go by. Other than that though, this sheet came out really well and with relative ease.

This is definitely one of the more obscure Mario 3D Land themes (it only plays in like 3 levels in the entire game), and after rediscovering this one I've grown to really like it. It has a slow march sort of feel.

This is probably my favorite RR theme next to Mario Kart Wii's and Super Mario Kart's, probably because of the rock feel to it. Anyway, the hard part in this one was trying to find ways to incorporate the harmonies everywhere, especially in bars 60-66. The way I have it now is kinda cheap I'll admit, but it's really awkward to find a way to incorprate a steady harmony part when the melody goes all over the place lol. I'll probably revisit this one soon and see if I can find a better way to arrange that last part, but for now, it's all right.

Great sheet!

Feedback:
 - The intro is too fast.
 - For some reason the playback sounds like the sustain pedal is being used the entire time. I know it's not reverb because I exported a MIDI, and it kept that issue. The sustain pedal would definitely work in some areas (particularly M.1-6, M.7, M.52-59), but not plaguing the entire piece.
 - There were some points you could beam 8th notes over 8th rests.

That's about all I've got. Amazing work!

I'm not sure why this is, as I didn't place pedal markings anywhere or adjust the reverb. Weird.

I fixed this in bars 25-32 cuz the melody is there, but most isolated offbeat eighth note stuff (like bars 16 RH, 45 LH, etc) I kept unbeamed mostly because I've seen stuff like this very often in other similar-styled music and have done the same in other sheets of mine. If they absolutely need to be beamed, I'd be happy to change them, I'm just going by other stuff I've seen before lol

I'm not certain, but you might be able to fix this by copy-pasting the whole thing into an empty sheet.

The sheet for this that's on-site (http://www.ninsheetmusic.org/download/pdf/88) is just dying for a revision; the melody and rhythms are mostly wrong, the bassline is all wrong, the chords are wrong, and entire parts and sections have been omitted. But now, they've been fixed and I'm pretty satisfied with how it all turned out. Overall, it was a fun, short, and simple song to do.

Thought I'd give a little feedback on this song since I love it so much and I've been wanting to see a replacement of it for so long!

Couple things:
- You seemed to have beamed this song in an interesting way. I don't think it should be beamed in the style of a -/8 song the way you have it. Don't get me wrong. The signature is correct (13/8), but I don't think the note beaming is correct. It should probably be beamed more like a 61/2/4 song.
For example, you have it beamed as 3+2+2+3+3. It would be better as 2+2+3+2+2+2. I hope that doesn't sound confusing :P
- I would recommend adding some sort of articulation (maybe staccato?) on the left hand eighth notes. The original seems to have more pomp. Same with the right hand of M. 5+
Maybe do something that is the opposite of M. 22 & 23. You have great articulation in those measures.
- Don't forget the "/" at the end of the url.

Nice job with this challenging sheet! You did a great job at hearing the notes.

I fixed the beaming issues (thanks so much for that btw) and added that missing slash, but I kept the articulations the way I had them due to the fact that none really fit. The bassline and strings, while punchy, aren't really staccato (or anything else for that matter) imo. They seem more like just normal notes at least to me. I think the slur in bars 22-23 is enough to distinguish the two parts there.

All of the links I posted should be updated with the new set of files.

I was originally going to put this in 6/8, but I think 6/4 kinda fits the song a little more. Any other suggestions on the time sig for this one would be appreciated cuz its kind of a tricky one lol

I absolutely love these kind of march-y songs, and I absolutely love Chrono Trigger, so I thought it would be a good choice to arrange this song. I think it came out pretty well.

Edit: The formatting is updated and I rewrote some things to make it sound better.

I was kinda surprised when I realized that no one on here has arranged Cirno's theme yet, so I figured I would lol. I was originally going to do the original EoSD version, but the PoFV remix has a lot more stuff going on and it just sounds better imo. The only thing I'm not really too sure of when I made this was the runs, particularly in bars 73 and 81.

Overall though, I would definitely say it's my strongest arrangement.

Welp, there's my cue.

I was kinda surprised when I realized that no one on here has arranged Cirno's theme yet, so I figured I would lol.
Uh... well... I wanted to, but never found the time (plus I hate arranging from EoSD, despite my more recent fondness of it).

the PoFV remix has a lot more stuff going on and it just sounds better imo.
Yeah, that's very true (the bassline in the EoSD one is super boring), although I'm not too sure how much I like the PoFV one in general. It's mainly the bad synth that put me off.

The only thing I'm not really too sure of when I made this was the runs, particularly in bars 73 and 81.
I have no clue either to be honest. I'd leave them for now.

Overall though, I would definitely say it's my strongest arrangement.
Hehe.. strongest...

Comments:
 - The notes all seem to be in order, although I would check for note values.
   - Particular ones would be from M.23-30, and M.12 being almost identical to M.8.
 - I believe the piano is doing a bit more from M.13-20. Could that be implemented?
 - Dynamics are a rather big issue with the latter half of this sheet. My suggestions:
    - M.50: forte, because it feels louder than the first section with those notes, and it would make it sound different.
    - M.66: mezzoforte, because it seems slightly louder than mezzopiano.
    - M.74: forte, to keep the volume going up.
    - M.82: mezzopiano, because it definitely sounds quieter than the section that precedes it.
    - M.84: (continued) mezzopiano/mezzoforte. Both for their own fairly obvious reasons.

Other than those minor things, this is an absolutely beautiful sheet. Keep up the good work!
Title: Static's Arrangements - NEW: Red Canyon (F-Zero)
Post by: Static on December 15, 2016, 05:51:30 AM
Thanks for the feedback on the Cirno sheet, all those things you listed should be fixed now and the links are updated. That piano in the background in measures 13-20 and 58-65 was a little hard to hear, but I think I transcribed it right (hopefully lol).

Anyway, new sheet:

[SNES] F-Zero - "Red Canyon"
[.MID] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/edp2bg6aj9vsgaz/F-Zero%20-%20Red%20Canyon.mid?raw=1) [.MUS] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/7vr4toolhf64lx2/F-Zero%20-%20Red%20Canyon.mus?raw=1) [.MUSX] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/yw7rirhah7k5fu1/F-Zero%20-%20Red%20Canyon.musx?raw=1) [.PDF] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/22usecxtsikuccn/F-Zero%20-%20Red%20Canyon.pdf?raw=1) [Original] (https://youtu.be/tlSWNXSJM8o)

I was going to include the other melody thing in bars 25-29 but I ended up deciding against it to make the sheet easier to play (especially at this speed) and look less messy. If anyone thinks I should throw the part back in though, I'd be happy to. Feedback appreciated, as always!

A nice short and easy song, as are most from the Animal Crossing series. I notated this in 6/8, but looking back, maybe 3/8 would suit it better? A second opinion would be helpful.

Also, the Cherry Blossom Festival version is here (https://youtu.be/ZaDYHMJnOZo). I could not find the snowy variation on YouTube, but it is here (http://animalcrossing.wikia.com/wiki/10_P.M.) along with all the other variations.

One of the catchiest songs from Mario RPG imo. I actually arranged this months before I joined NSM, but I wanted to take the time and revise what I had originally. This is the result, and I think it came out pretty well.

I've been wanting to arrange this for awhile, so here it is! This one of my favorite 2hu songs. It was a bit tricky to try and fit so many different voices into a solo arrangement, but I think it all worked out. Also, for some reason the mordents in the 2nd layer (RH) in bars 53 and 61 don't play. Not sure if that's just a weird Finale quirk or something.

I forgot to mention something about this. (I THINK) the time signature should be cut-time, and the tempo marking should display as "half note = 104". No need to alter note values.

That's because I'm on winter break, so I have much more time to arrange. and also much more time to procrastinate on things lol...

I forgot to mention something about this. (I THINK) the time signature should be cut-time, and the tempo marking should display as "half note = 104". No need to alter note values.
I was actually originally going to put this in cut time, as it definitely has that sort of feel. At the same time, it also has like a fast 4/4 swing sort of vibe (like the Athletic theme (http://www.ninsheetmusic.org/download/pdf/1083) from Yoshi's Island). I think it all really comes down to the feel of it though, and after looking it over again and listening to the original, I think I'm going with cut time. It could really go either way though imo. Anyway, all the files should be updated. Thanks for pointing it out!

This is a very rough arrangement, I plan to go back and fix it up soon, but for now it's pretty good. This song is just so... weird. It's in 4/4 but it has sort of a 3+3+3+3+4 pattern of 16ths throughout most of it. I was going to include the weird run thing in bar 13, but I ended up not just for now, although I may add it later. As always, feedback is greatly appreciated.

There's nothing quite like finishing up an arrangement at 3am lol... Anyways, about the arrangement:

Compared to most other Touhou songs, this one is a lot more ambient, and as a result it was a lot less straightforward to arrange. It was quite difficult compared to my previous Touhou sheets, but I had a lot of fun with it. Hopefully I created something that retains the feel of the original while still being an actually cohesive and interesting arrangement. The only section I'm kinda worried about is bars 35-42; it was quite hard to hear the LH part there. Feedback appreciated as always.

I was just going to ask about this. What great timing.

I can't really give feedback right now, but even if I could, I wouldn't know what to say (possibly notes?). This is a solid arrangement! You definitely nailed the atmosphere.

M.33 (R.H.) looks kinda tricky. That's about all I can criticise.

Thanks for taking a look at the sheet! I moved the chords around in bars 33-34 to make it a bit easier to play.

When I first joined this site and submitted my first arrangement (http://www.ninsheetmusic.org/download/pdf/31), I didn't really think I would get very far with this arranging stuff, but here I am! I'd like to thank everyone here for making my first 6 months of NSM some especially great ones. I learned quite a bit about arranging and music theory, but more importantly I made some great friends here.

Well, I hope to continue this trend for as long as I can, so here's to many more future arrangements! Again, thank you everyone!

This song... I don't think I've had a song frustrate me so much as this one did lol. There are so many weird modulations, time changes, and odd chords. The bassline was near impossible to hear, so I went by the feel of the song instead. In fact, quite a bit of this arrangement consists of my own rendition of the parts just because the original runs together so much. I think it all paid off though, and I'm really happy with how this turned out. The only thing I'm not really sure about is the chord bar 34; it sounds like an Ebm chord in the original but it just sounds so dissonant to me. I'm just not very sure lol.

Anyways, feedback is appreciated, as always.

I made an arrangement of this ages ago. I was so unpleased with it that I never posted it anywhere. If I tried again, it wouldn't be as good as this one. Due to the complexity of the song, there's still some work to be done, but right now this is already great. Keep it up!

Trust me when I say that I had absolutely no clue a few months ago, and probably wouldn't know now.

Of all the songs in MoF, SA, and UFO, I think this is the one I hear the most.

I put this sheet under MoF's soundtrack because that's the first game the song appeared in and also only game where the track is listed in the Music Room. It's the same exact song used for SA and UFO though.

There still hasn't been a good explanation for why Kanako's theme has been the game-over theme in almost every game since MoF.

Just One Thing:
I know the pedal is heavily implied, but throwing in "con pedale" wouldn't hurt.

Really good sheet though.

Here (https://youtu.be/otObQexGPGg)'s the inverted version. Also, while the video title may be Upside Dizzy Galaxy, I'm going off of the offical OST (https://www.mariowiki.com/Super_Mario_Galaxy_2:_Original_Soundtrack).

This was a fun song to do; lots of weird chords (some of which I'm not entirely sure on the accidentals for) and rhythms. This song gives me weird Super Paper Mario vibes for some reason, probably because of all the weird synth sounds used. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! I never got why that part of Kanako's theme is used as the game over theme either, but it strangely fits for some reason, even in the later games... Weird. Anyway, I added that pedal marking in, so it should be good now.

I have now. I added the Ab to m13 as well as m54 in the 2nd variation.

I hate these too lol, but the rest of Rightside Down and Upside Dizzy Galaxy were great though.

Anyway, new arrangement time:

This was a really fun one to do. There's only like 5 chords repeated through the whole song, but they all sound nice and jazzy together. It's a blast to play too.

The actual name of this song in the game's files is SEQ_CIRCUIT2, but Circuit 2 is the more well-known title. This song sounds like a mix of many different Mario Kart songs; it has the funky bassline of Shroom Ridge and Waluigi Pinball, the groove and background piano chords of Mushroom Bridge/City, and the drum style of MKDS's own circuit theme.

Maybe its lack of identity was why it was never included in the final game? Who knows.

I'm going to go with the fairly popular opinion of "it was a placeholder" because it seems to make enough sense, considering it doesn't really match any of the courses.

I'm going to go with the fairly popular opinion of "it was a placeholder" because it seems to make enough sense, considering it doesn't really match any of the courses.
That seems very likely. The only course I think would match is maybe Mario Circuit? But idk the normal circuit theme works well enough there too.

Anyway, my quest for obscure arrangements continues with this:

[SNES] Super Mario Kart - "Vanilla Lake (Beta)"
[.MID] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/k75dqmonwfv6769/Super%20Mario%20Kart%20-%20Vanilla%20Lake%20%28Beta%29.mid?raw=1) [.MUS] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/w9iwzdlnpx83znx/Super%20Mario%20Kart%20-%20Vanilla%20Lake%20%28Beta%29.mus?raw=1) [.MUSX] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/jynjtfc6tg645h5/Super%20Mario%20Kart%20-%20Vanilla%20Lake%20%28Beta%29.musx?raw=1) [.PDF] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/jdjlda8hzz1dili/Super%20Mario%20Kart%20-%20Vanilla%20Lake%20%28Beta%29.pdf?raw=1) [Original] (https://youtu.be/lK-PG98e2t4)

This song isn't very well-known at all, I never even knew it existed until a few months ago. It doesn't really fit in with the Vanilla Lake setting at all imo, but it sounds good on its own. Also, it's in 12/8, which is really unusual for a Mario Kart track. There hasn't been another MK song in 12/8 until Thwomp Ruins.

An unfortunate side-effect of this being a 25-year-old game though is that prototypes are extremely rare, and most of the versions of this song on YouTube or anywhere else are generally recreations rather than the official track. I probably won't be submitting this anytime soon until I get some conclusive information on this, but it's nice to have it done at least.

It's been awhile since I posted an arrangement, I've just been so busy these past few weeks lol. More arrangements will come soon, I promise.

Anyway, I've been wanting to arrange something from this game for awhile and I'm glad I finally did. It's a pretty simple song, but the bassline is very interesting in the way it varies between long and short notes so often without actually changing the rhythm. When I arranged this, I tried to keep everything simple and clean and I think I did a decent job. Enjoy, you guys!

I gotta go now, my ship sails in the morning.

I hear a lot about Super Paper Mario stuff being difficult to arrange, and I can't agree more there, but Thousand-Year Door definitely has its own fair share of weird songs. This one happens to be one of them. It's only one page long, but it took awhile to make. I tried to keep the sheet steady and always moving, but still have a sort of airy and floaty vibe. Hopefully I succeeded, I think it turned out all right.

I bet you weren't expecting this!

I've been wanting to arrange something from this game for awhile, and since I noticed no one on here has arranged something from this game yet, I'd do one of the more well-known pieces. It wasn't very difficult to arrange, but it was a lot of fun. I might consider doing more songs from this game in the future...

It's been awhile, too long. Almost 3 weeks in fact. I've been spending a lot of my time playing Breath of the Wild and doing other stuff so that's probably why I haven't been arranging for awhile. But today I prepared a classic sheet. I really enjoy the original Pilotwings OST, it's fun to listen to. Like the others, Light Plane has a lot of weird harmonies, chords, and accidentals, but I think the sheet came out all right. Any feed back is greatly appreciated, as always.

It's been way too long again, but I'm finally here with another arrangement! And a Breath of the Wild one at that. This song took awhile to do because it's quite complex and challenging, but I'm pretty satisfied with the result.

The only problem is, there are actually several different versions of the battle theme, including a remixed version when fighting Lynels or Yiga Clan members. The version I arranged was the version on the official OST, up until about the 1:44 mark, when it shifts to one of the various other versions. I might get to the other variations of this song eventually, but for now this will suffice. Hope you guys enjoy, and as always, feedback is greatly appreciated!

The version on site is in great need of a replacement, so here it is! I actually arranged this on my keyboard while playing it and then wrote it down after - different from how I usually do things, but it paid off enormously. I think this arrangement came out really well. As always, feedback is appreciated!

Another song absolutely needing a replacement, and one of my favorite Kirby 64 songs. I've always wanted to arrange this, and I'm glad I finally got a chance to now. Those cluster chords towards the end were fun to make, I'm not sure if there's a better or easier way to make them, so if you know about them please let me know. So I noticed that you're facing the problem of trying to find just the right positioning for your arpeggio/chord roll markings: can't go too far right because of accidental s, but can't go too far left because of the barline. Solution? Add space globally to the beginning of each measure. Here's how:

Select the Measure tool.
Hold down the SHIFT key and click to select a region of measures where this occurs.
Right-click (CONTROL+click on Mac) and choose Edit Measure Attributes.
Add a value to the Extra Space at Beginning field; I would recommend somewhere between 24 and 36 EVPUs.
Click OK.

You could also just move the notes with the special tools.

That'd take forever.
There are literally 16 chords to move. It's not like it would take "forever" hahaha... Since the score is short, these are pretty much equivalent solutions. My solution is slower, but it's easier to explain and to understand ::)

Thanks for the tips you guys! I ended up going with the measure spacing method just bc that seemed quicker, but I'll take note of the other way as well; I never know when I may need to do that. Thanks! Files should be updated now.

Sometimes a note moved using the special tools tends to snap back when something else in the measure is edited. I try to avoid using that if possible, but sometimes it's unavoidable.
Title: Re: Static's Arrangements - NEW: Breath of the Wild - Cave
Post by: Pianoth on April 21, 2017, 07:31:53 PM
Yeah I know, it's a thing that must be done at the end of everything. Actually, in this case, both LH and RH should be moved, so I would also prefer to use the measure tool (you can also manually drag notes with that btw, and it moves both LH and RH). The solution I suggested is more appropriate when you need to do a small and quick fix. I think it's mandatory only in the case you need to move only one of the layers (the measure tool moves every layer), or when you need to move a note/chord in only one of the staffs.

One of the most common, biggest problems you could make as an arranger is making an uninteresting arrangement, and the Touhou series' OSTs make it really easy to fall in this trap; so many sections repeat over and over with only slight variations. And while admittedly I have fell in this trap before several times, for this arrangement I tried to make sure to make every section, even if it's repeated, is unique in some way. I think it worked pretty well overall.

Some other things:
- I'm not 100% on the exact title translation, but I see this one most often as of now.
- The glissando playback in m64 isn't right, and I don't know what exactly is the problem. It's not too big of a deal anyway though since it's just the playback.
- Some of the bassline sounds off (like in m5, m37, & m69), but the pitches I transcribed are accurate. You don't really notice this weird clash in the original because the bass is less prominent.

As always, feedback is greatly appreciated!

Unlike with the previous arrangement, I decided to go with a more simple approach here. Honestly, the way I arrange stuff really depends on what the song is and how I see it to be the best on piano. For something like this, I wanted to go with a clean and easy to read sheet, while still providing some challenge. Hopefully I did this pretty well, I thought so at least lol. As always, feedback is much appreciated.

I've been very on/off about this one, and as a result it's taken me a couple of months to actually finish it. Thank you!

Another new Touhou sheet of course. This one's really short, but it sounds really pretty and atmospheric, perfect for Stage 6. Some of the rhythms are also really weird, so I got a little adventurous and tried using split time signatures. There were spots were I kind of had to bend the rules but I think overall it's decent. As always, feedback is much appreciated.

When I arrange, I'm always open to new and strange ideas if it makes the sheet better or make more sense in some way. E# minor is one of those ideas. Maybe I'll change it to F minor later, but the modulation from C# minor to E# minor makes a lot more sense to me. Any feedback and suggestions are welcome, as always.

This song was short, but it was really weird compared to my other arrangements. The drum part plays a huge role here, so I actually ended up including it. It is possible to play without a drumset, via foot-stomping and beatboxing, but it's still fairly challenging. I mean, there's like 5 parts to play at once lol. Maybe having an actual percussion part instead of a piano equivalent is "cheating" a bit, but with the drums being so integral to the song I think it's warranted here. Any feedback and suggestions and stuff are welcome, as always.

Also, as a side note, don't listen to the .MID, it's bad. For some reason, all the percussion is converted to string sounds. I don't feel like trying to mess around with it and fix it atm, but yeah.

I agree that it wouldn't be the same without the drum set, your arrangement sounds just as epic as the original. Would be very cool if there'll ever be a duet performance of this. :)

Monstro Town:
I'd personally find the B major section easier to read in Cb as it makes the accidentals a bit easier to read. But that could just be because I'm a trombone player.

Any reason why you didn't spell beat 4 of bar 7 (RH) with flats? I realise there's a potential can of worms here.
Title: Re: Static's Arrangements - NEW: Touhou 12 - Fires of Hokkai (Stage 6 Theme)
Post by: Static on June 15, 2017, 05:39:57 AM
I usually try to stick with the key with less accidentals when it comes to Cb/C# Major or ab/a# minor. Of course, that depends on how many and what kind of accidentals are in the piece. In Monstro Town, if you write it in Cb major, there's still a pretty decent amount of naturals and flats everywhere, including a bunch of double flats. I don't really find this piece any easier or harder to read in B or Cb, so I just chose B and went with it.

I spelled beat 4 of bar 7 (and others like it) with the #4 and #6 scale degrees because of the F# in the lower RH voice from earlier (F#-G-F#-Fn) makes a little more sense to me at least. I chose A# instead of Bb because of the Bn in the bass. I know it's definitely possible to have both a Bn and Bb at the same, but I don't think it really had to be like that here. My main motive for using the #4 and #6 here and in other spots like it was because the #4 and #6 are used much more often in the piece compared to the b5 and b7, which are never used (except in m48, where if I did otherwise there would be an overlap of a Gx and a G# which doesn't read very well).

I realize this probably sounds a little trivial and maybe doesn't make that much sense, but that's kind of how I was thinking when I arranged this. I'd rather have less types of accidentals when there's a good reason to have it that way. If that part really should be written as Gb-Bb then I'll change it though.

My Wood Man sheet has now been revised and improved, so that's good.

Anyway, I'm really tired so before I go to bed, here's my next batch of sheets:

[SNES] Pilotwings - "Opening Theme"
[.MID] (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6i3fGvW_38VRDhXTWkyTjhnUms) [.MUS] (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6i3fGvW_38Vc3ppdnp6OGhRRWc) [.MUSX] (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6i3fGvW_38VOThHajV0U2phaFU) [.PDF] (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6i3fGvW_38VODU5U1J5RGNiNmc) [Original] (https://youtu.be/zvyjVjfFYKI)

[SNES] Pilotwings - "Hang Glider"

I finished all of these earlier today but I didn't have a chance to post them until now, so here they are. They're pretty short, but the harmonies are really cool (a common theme with lots of Soyo Oka's compositions lol). While the Pilotwings 64 and Resort OSTs are really cool as well, there's nothing imo that matches the style and originality of the classic SNES soundtrack. Feedback would be much appreciated, as always.

The Port Town tracks in this game are always a lot of fun to race on, and a large part of that reason is the awesome catchy music that plays. Port Town is definitely one of the best tracks in the game imo, and that's why I've been dying to arrange it. As always, feedback would be very much appreciated.

I've been itching to arrange some more Final Fantasy stuff lately and daj's recent request gave me the perfect excuse to start on that lol. So, here is the classic song Phantom Train. The accidentals overall are pretty weird, but once you figure out the chords they're in it becomes not quite as bad. It's a lot of fun to play as well. As always, feedback is greatly appreciated.

I love this track and this is a fantastic arrangement! :D Now I feel like opening up my piano for the first time in years because this is something I can actually play lol

Also since when was this so short ._. It felt like it was insanely long based on how long I spent there in game

It's unfortunate that there wasn't enough room to squeeze in that countermelody at m25 onwards, since that's one of my favorite parts about this song, but the way you have it now probably best preserves the slow, heavy feel of the original. It's times like these when I wish we had three hands...

I love this track and this is a fantastic arrangement!

Thanks! I agree it does seem like it has a much longer loop in-game lol. It seems that way with a lot of other vgm as well now that I think about it. I could have put that countermelody in at m25 but it's a little awkward to play and didn't really give the same feel as I was trying to go for (that slow and heavy feeling). I did include the countermelody in m27 and 31 though cuz it felt more natural and fitting there.

Haha honestly a part of me was hoping for that countermelody too. ^^; But I saw the way you did those chords and the jumps to the mid register and realised how fun that would be too xD

If it's the slow and heavy, and maybe extrapolating a bit, the constant rolling of the train's wheels in that I-V alternating bass, then that is the image I'll be thinking of when I play this :)

Once again thanks for arranging this! Can't wait to see your other FF stuff haha, if you do enough awesome arrangements I might just do a compilation :p

Thank you! Yep, that was pretty much exactly the image I was trying to go for when arranging this lol. And yeah maybe I will do more FF stuff (most likely IV and VI cuz those are my favorites lol) in the future, we'll see.

Anyway, new arrangement time!

While Deku's current sheet is definitely respectable, there were too many small things with it that bugged me so I decided to give it a much-needed makeover. Being one of the most famous VGM tunes in existence, I took extreme care in getting every little detail right (not that I don't do this in my other sheets lol) and even added a few dynamic flourishes to keep it from getting too samey...

...But I didn't stop there! I figured I'd go ahead and take care of this remix as well since it's pretty similar. Of course, there are tons of added and changed harmonies and extra notes and parts and whatnot, so it's not like the exact same. Either way, this one was pretty enjoyable to arrange and sounds really cool on piano.

As always, feedback for these sheets is immensely appreciated.

A couple of quick thoughts on the SMB overworld:
- You may want to consider offsetting everything by two measures to delimit sections easier and use repeats. Check my SMW Special World sheet to see how I structured it.
- I would recommend against courtesy naturals for two reasons: it's in C major so every measure is automatically accidental free, and the ones you have right now follow neighboring accidentals, not even chord changes, so I think they might be more trouble than they're worth when reading.

I moved the measures around so the phrases align better like in that Special World sheet. I disagree about how you don't need courtesy accidentals in C major or for neighboring tones, but considering the sheet is already really simple, I removed them. I made these changes to the All-Stars version as well.

While Super Paper Mario around here is known for it's insanely intricate and complex songs with lots of time/key changes, polyrhythms, countermelodies, etc., I think a lot of these more emotional songs are relatively forgotten. The harmonies in the intro start simple and get increasingly more complex as the song goes on, ending on a really awesome Ebmaj9 chord (I just love these). Even if this intro theme is a lot shorter than Paper Mario 64's and TTYD's, it's still a really nice tune imo. Anyways, as always, feedback is very much appreciated.

I love this song, it's definitely one of my top 5 tracks from Chrono Trigger, but figuring out how to arrange it in a way that is pianist-friendly, isn't just a plain and bland transcription of the original, and doesn't take too much from the masterful and genius Zohar arrangement (https://youtu.be/HllRJW6_R-o) was really tricky. After experimenting at my keyboard a bit I came up with what I have here. My arrangement has a noticeably darker feel to it than the original because of the way I moved around the parts but it sounds pretty nice on piano. Any feedback for this one would be greatly appreciated, as always.

It really hard to not replicate what other arrangers done, especially Zohar.

Good stuff, tho.

I'll come back with some actual contributing words and such regarding your arrangement.

This is one of my favorite battle themes from the entire series, so of course I had to take a stab at it. The song is filled with all sorts of weird rhythms and has a really involved and important percussion part that drives the whole song (much more than in most other FF boss themes). I took full advantage of all this when arranging and tried to make it feel just as energetic and unsettling as the original, if not more. As always, feedback is very much appreciated.

EDIT: The sheet has been modified for playability and is now much more suitable for playing and performing.

I've been itching to try to arrange something from the Crash games. A lot of music from these games is either really ambient or relies a lot on percussion, or both. Honestly, this song probably wasn't the best choice to try to arrange for piano lol but I stuck with it nonetheless. Anyways, it's a really weird song with all sorts of strange accidental things and percussive things. As always, feedback would be much appreciated.

I always visit your thread knowing that I'll be amazed at your arrangements - you seem to always take on a challenging piece and come back with something entirely unique. I really liked your most recent Final Fantasy battle theme, so much drama in just three pages!

Thank you so much, it means a lot! I'm really glad you enjoy taking a look at my arrangements! I always try to make my arrangements stand out from others in some way, and I worked especially hard on that FFIV one so it would have that same dramatic flair as the original. Again, thanks for taking a look at my sheets!

Wadanohara is a great little indie JRPG that I just got into, and one thing that really stuck out to me was the music. Though the instrumentation in the original (which is just basic midi stuff) is lacking, the actual quality of the compositions I find to be quite good. It was a little tricky to arrange this because of all the different harmonic and rhythmic layers but I eventually found a solution that distinguishes the main sections of the song and keeps the harmony sounding consistent and exciting on piano. What works in the original doesn't really translate well onto piano so I experimented a bit. As always, feedback is greatly appreciated.

I never really cared for this song while playing the game or just casually listening to it, but after arranging it and noticing all the cool harmonies and countermelodies (as well as that awesome sax and trumpet call-and-response thing going on), I'm starting to really appreciate how well-composed this song is. It matches Yuugi perfectly. Compared to some of my other Touhou sheets (like Heian Alien or Phantom Ensemble), I took a much more simple approach to this arrangement. Hopefully it worked out, I think it did at least lol.

As soon as I heard this theme, I knew I had to attempt an arrangement of it. So, here it is! This is one of the craziest, most insane sheets I've ever made, and I'm really proud of the fact that I actually finished it lol. There's a ton of strange harmonies, complex rhythms, and fast runs. It's not really a catchy song, but I enjoyed arranging it and listening to it nonetheless.

In the midst of things like marching band, auditions, finalizing summer school assignments, and a bunch of other stuff, there's one idea I had while looking at my number of completed arrangements. This idea was something I had to get done as soon as I could, after all it was quite exciting.

Today (or rather tonight), I'm here to present you all with 5 of my best arrangements to date. What better way to celebrate 100 arrangements than with something big? I think 5 final boss themes make a pretty big statement. All of these sheets are fairly simply written, as I was striving for playability. Hopefully I did a pretty good job with that. Anyways, please enjoy the new sheets! Feedback and criticism, as always, is greatly appreciated.

Anyway, here's another new sheet:

This is a pretty simple sheet overall, but it's nonetheless one of my favorite Animal Crossing tracks. Not really too much else to say about it lol

What's that, an easy SPM tune? Well, actually yes, (compared to the rest of the OST) this one was pretty straightforward to arrange. There was only one tricky spot, which was the very last section, but it turned out pretty decently I think. I ended up simplifying a few things so it would be more accessible to play, and I think it worked out pretty well. It's a pretty simple, but catchy tune. [some crag joke]
