Title: InsigTurtle's Arrangements (Is it 2015 already?)
Post by: InsigTurtle on October 23, 2014, 01:05:26 AM
I'll be gradually moving my old stuff over here. In the process, I'll be also changing them to Finale 2012 files... using Finale 2014...
I'll upload all of them one day...
Ellipses are great...

Oh right now I remember, you were Rosa right? I was about to welcome you lol

Breezy Mushrise Park is nice, but when you have the "8th-quarter-8th" rhythm, don't tie two 8ths, put a quarter instead.

Ex: Measure 2, left hand, "E 8th - E quarter - B 8th" instead of "E 8th - E 8th tied to E 8th - B 8th". The same applies to measures 4, 6, 8, etc

"Reminiscence ~ Steel Samurai's Ballad" -- composers are Akemi Kimura and Masakazu Sugimori, not whoever it is you listed lol. Arrangement seems to be fine, I'll take a closer look when I get home.

Fixed.
Also, new stuff.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity
Desperation - (MID) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/wvi7qtnrwdnk711/Desperation.mid?dl=0) (MUS) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/28ruue4lz5emm6d/Desperation.mus?dl=0) (PDF) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/vs8akit3tok3v67/Desperation.pdf?dl=0)

Interestingly, the original Desperation does not play in the game. What a shame.

I could also appreciate it if someone could help me with my WIP Anistar City (https://www.dropbox.com/s/9vkb2ot5voaoi13/AnistarCity.mus?dl=0) arrangement. I'd say it's about 50% done, but I simply can't work on it any longer.

New thing.
I think.
I haven't been able to find the official English translation, so I stuck with the Japanese. For now.
EDIT: Never mind. English here.

Another new thing.
This time, it's for two pianos, because it would be a bit awkward to play with only 2 hands.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity
Hazy Pass (Highlands) (Two Pianos)
(MID) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/5hg7be6nwm6etd9/HazyPassHighlands%28TwoPianos%29.mid?dl=0) (MUS) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/v6nrdwf7ml4xgd3/HazyPassHighlands%28TwoPianos%29.mus?dl=0) (PDF) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/3olice6pcyorjwu/HazyPassHighlands%28TwoPianos%29.pdf?dl=0)

Hopefully, I don't mess up the game title this time.

Three arrangements but still no comments? Sad. I guess I'm to blame too, since I've taken so long to respond myself.

Wow, that Zinnia's Lament arrangement - you should totes submit that. Really well done.

Some of the chords in Hazy Pass Highlands seemed off, especially in 21-32 with the bass. I'll be making a solo arrangement eventually though, so when I do, I'll be sure to come back and give some more thorough feedback on your duet.

...and maybe it was just Finale, but everything seemed really muddy in Desperation. Maybe it was just the con pedale. Loved the crazy part later in the arrangement! Gave me some goosebumps. Just wish it all weren't so muddy. There's some practicality issues though: measure 17 seems to have some Rachmaninoff-esque LH chord stretches, and the 16th note breakout awesomeness in m. 23+ overlaps constantly with the LH.

Post by: InsigTurtle on January 30, 2015, 02:48:31 AM
Thanks for the feedback! I have to admit that I sort of rushed the second one, so I only used the timpani part (I remember there being this one dissonant chord that I really couldn't grasp). And for the Desperation arrangement, I wasn't really sure if pedal should be released while the left hand played that Am13 chord (I think?), otherwise it would be kind of muddy. I could have also used a half pedal, but I have no idea how to notate that on Finale...

It's been three months. So, I decided to do something easy.
This here is for two pianos. I want to play and record this with someone else, but it doesn't seem like a possibility right now.
Them dissonant chords are pretty difficult to pick up. The last part took me over four hours to notate nicely >_<

I'm planning to do a lil' update a week for the rest of ze summer. Probably going just be an assortment of stuff from Pokémon and Mother 3, with some random music from other games sprinkled in.

Mother 3 - Resolve (Gum Guy's Recommendation)
(MID) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/gjo5kvxri0w7h3u/Resolve.mid?dl=0) (MUS) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/mindc85ydilwwnp/Resolve.mus?dl=0) (PDF) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/rpzb0vp0x1extel/Resolve.pdf?dl=0)

The laast one has some hand-crossing, but it's pretty simple so I guess it's fine.

EDIT: Moops, forgot something.

Deep Limestone Cavern
(MID) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/jcgzwojeafeqx2g/DeepLimestoneCavern.mid?dl=0) (MUS) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/pvfgpkioqyzo7z7/DeepLimestoneCavern.mus?dl=0) (PDF) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/kwbv8t1cu5bolvt/DeepLimestoneCavern.pdf?dl=0)

This guy is a bit technically challenging, but if you omit those rising notes, it becomes trivial.

It's about 4:20 PM now, so I should really be getting to bed, since I'm on my nocturnal schedule now.
I've got this sheet ready.
Since the previous one was pretty difficult, this one here is super easy since it combines the choir and the music box in one voice because they pretty much play the same notes.

This is from the new PSMD soundtrack. It's not properly formatted yet, because the English title remains unknown, and I'm not going with a literal translation for now. SuperPMD unofficial arrangement project, eh eh?

I had a feeling you would hop on this track soon enough, considering your immediate affinity for just a 10 second clip of it.

We actually DO know the composers -- they are listed on the website of the studio that produced the OST, Noisycroak:

(https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1111.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fh475%2FBespinben%2F1457677f140f1336d0dd6227c3295240_zpsrl5k6hgd.jpg&hash=450f10e853038e23ec46912b310f0edb0aa8781a)
...which translates to:

Production content
BGM: Keisuke Ito / Kawagoe Yasuhiro / Murakami Noriko
Sound effect : Ebisu Ichiro / Satoshi Sato / Nakamura Jitsutaka

So, we got our veteran composer duo from Explorers and Gates, and a new guy for good measure.

Wow nice job though. I'd suggest cleaning it up a bit aesthetically, as there are some clashing pedal markings, rests, and stuff. Mostly I think the systems are too close to each other; you're got lots of space on page 3 so feel free to space things out a little more.

Your cute comment made me want to go and check out your PMD arrangements. ^^ I thought they were great, nice choice of songs, so peaceful. And yes, I am curious as to why this thread is only on its second page.

"Barren Valley" sounds lovely as a piano arrangement; sometimes an arrangement just doesn't come out how you wanted it to but other times it sounds nicer than the original (like this one!). Okay, in no way am I licensed to give correct arranging advice, but I'll just quickly jot down the little things that I noticed along the way. Some of the phrasing marks look a bit funky, such as measures 26-27. I think you can just move that rogue F in m. 28 down to the left hand and that should even the notes out a bit. And I'd probably have a go at fitting it all onto 3 pages, maybe if the whole sheet is re-sized to 90% then it should be easy-peasy. In m. 24, I think you can just have a whole bar rest sit in the left hand.

In "Desperation", there are some huge intervals in the left hand starting from around measure 12. I guess someone could try playing the middle notes with their nose :P but an easier way would be to raise the lowest notes up an octave, or add an arpeggiation, or mark the middle notes with a bracket to show that the right hand should play them. And yeah, the con pedale can be a pain, it plays as if the performer read "with pedal" quite literally and never takes his foot off of it, lol.

Similar kind of thing in "It's Can't Be", some large intervals and cross-over of hands that could get a bit confusing. Perhaps have a go at placing the right hand chords starting from m.9 in the left hand instead, maybe that could be more manageable for the performer?

I feel like I've talked way too much, but as a final point just wanted to say thanks for sharing your sheets, I would love to see more new things from you. :)

Hey, thanks for the feedback!

Arranging-wise, I do get rather unfriendly at times, since I like to leave the interpretation to the performer. But I'm trying to make it nicer now.
About the hand-crossing, I think I did that because I was playing one of Beethoven's sonatas at the time, and that one in particular required lots of hand crossing, so I decided to incorporate it in. Looking back, I don't think it was a good choice, since it complicates a relatively simple piece ^_^;

It's been a while. This one here isn't very elegant. It's also ridiculously difficult for me to play.
I don't really practice augmented major seventh arpeggios or whole tone scales at thirty-second notes, so...
It'd be better off as a two-piano arrangement, but think of this one as an etude for your right hand.

Happy 2015! Today, it's a nice jazzy cocktail with a strong Japanese accent. Just the right amount of bitterness to cut through some of the sweetness. Maybe a squeeze of lemon juice could balance it out more. Some smoked paprika and garlic, and then rub it right in. Roast it gently for around six or so hours, and it comes out tender, moist, and decadent. The chocolate ooze goes well with a raspberry garnish. Perhaps add a sprig of mint and a lemon twist as well, then serve it in a martini glass. Stirred, because fuck you, James Bond.

This here is for two pianos. You have four limbs, right? This one has a teensy little blip for one measure for either a 64th or 128th note, I didn't bother checking; since it's so fast paced, it doesn't really matter anyway, unless you like seeing thousands of dots and flags.

Also, apologies to those who can't open musx files. You have my apologies. I must apologize.

Very nice! Did they reuse Blast's soundtrack when they made Pokemon Rumble World at all? Because that's where I recognize this piece from.

Yup, pretty sure it was reused. Good thing, too, cuz it's a super nice piece of Japanese-infused jazz.
