I hate how people keep saying "oh look hero factory pieces therefore hero factory reskin." IMO, Hero Factory was a series of tests by LEGO to find a better constraction method than what they had been using. They just made a new series so that they could have free reign over their building style without incurring fan backlash.

But the thing is, I loved the previous building system. This one makes it easier to use near identical frames just with different armor plating. There was really nothing wrong with the original system. I guess lego realized they were spending a lot on a massive amount of new molds. :P
Worthy of note:
- Onua appears to have a gear system (see those yellow things on his back?).
- The Protector of Earth appears to have the launcher-weapon (good to see they're continuing on with that :P) embedded in its chest.
- Some sets (Pohatu and Kopaka, not sure if there are any more) have the piece used for Guurahk's Staff of Disintegration.
- The armor of some of the protectors resembles the original Mata/Nuva body piece.
- Personal speculation: The skull spiders will fit on the faces à la Krana.
- Personal speculation/observation: Gali's weapon resembles a giant version of her Nuva weapons, as does Kopaka's/Tahu's weapon. Lewa has two axes.

IN CASE PEOPLE ARE UNAWARE!
The Protector sets are $10 each.
Lewa, Gali, Pohatu, and Skull Krata are $15 each.
Tahu, Kopaka, and Onua are $20 each.
That's $180 in total if you want to collect them all.
Thanks, LEGO.

Most of those are as ugly as hell. Kopeka looks good though.
Really? I think they look fairly okay. WHAT IS WITH THAT HAU, THOUGH?! DID TAHU GO ON AN EATING BINGE OR SOMETHING?!
Also, Gali's spear is soooooooooooo underwhelming now. Why didn't they keep the prototype version?
What's interesting is the blatant lack of Onua. You'd think they'd have finished the largest set. Maybe the gears are creating problems...

"Many ages ago, this being was known as Vorpal, Arbiter of Justice. However, a chance encounter with the Mask of Ultimate Power twisted his spirit and turned him into Vorpal, Seeker of Chaos. This creature flies around the island of Okoto, once more seeking the Mask of Ultimate Power. His former apprentice, Roland, now the current Arbiter of Justice, seeks him out in an attempt to return him to his former form."
The torso, the thing that inspired the whole creation, is made from the combination of a Hordika torso, Makuta Phantoka torso, and Piraka torso. I had trouble with the legs at first- originally, Vorpal was going to be a spider-like creature (to draw a comparison with the Skull Spiders), but after I found out that the legs couldn't hold him up (the compact torso makes it top-heavy), I had to get
really creative (the Rahkshi pieces add bulk to the bottom part of the legs, which are twisted at weird angles, though it's hard to tell from the picture). The arm pieces that connect to the outside of the legs were originally separate arms; however, although they worked well with the original spider concept, they didn't with the current form. Instead of removing them completely (they cover up axles that would otherwise stick out), I just added two more pieces and attached them to the legs (meaning that the legs are attached to the torso at a grand total of three places on each side).
^Nice. I don't think I could build something like that.

I've actually made a few really really awesome ones in the past but I don't think I'll have enough time to recreate one D:

I don't think you
need to make a new one, as long as it's a villain.
I had to dig through quite a lot of my sets to make Vorpal (some of the older pieces are actually starting to crack in certain places- oops!); normally, that's something I'd be reluctant to do, but this time, it was for a good cause. :P I'll definitely post more pictures later, but yesterday, my brother needed the camera (I had to take the picture myself, which I usually don't do, because he was getting upset about the background/angle- that's a gaming chair in the background, along with some pillows to cover up wires).
Double post. Winner were announced (http://rebrick.lego.com/en-US/BottomMenu/Blog/12192014-bionicle-semi-finalists.aspx), and I must say.... eh. Out of all the winners, I think Terror Bite is the most creative/original (that dinosaur head :D)- and maybe Makuta Nakken- and the only one that doesn't just look like a messy conglomeration of parts.
That brings me to another gripe, with Bionicle MOC contests in general: most people seem to prefer MOCs that are essentially just "a messy conglomeration of parts," rather than ones that actually look like Bionicles. Some people, like this guy (https://www.flickr.com/photos/ahava516/), can do that style of MOC extremely well (having enough parts to have significant detail, yet not enough to look cluttered or disorganized- looking more refined, like fine art), but overall, I feel that those type of MOCs are just the "Oh, neat" or "Wow! Look at what that person did" kind-of thing (if you understand what I'm saying), rather than epitomizing the style of Bionicle (which I feel should be the main criteria for judging a Bionicle MOC contest).
In addition, having an innate preference for such MOCs immediately cuts out a good majority of people entering the contest, who simply don't have enough matching pieces to make something like that. I can understand if they want to hold a "Master Builder" contest for the best MOC-builders to duke it out in a public display of awesome Bionicle extravagance, but when they have a contest open to everybody, I must say that it's a bit of a letdown to have a vast majority of fans be instantly excluded from the beginning. For example, when you also have things like this (http://imgur.com/a/2pjjZ) that are really creepy and awesome, but are overlooked simply because they aren't done a certain way, it becomes unfair to every participant.
I'd like to see a Bionicle contest with a size/piece limit, though I doubt it will ever happen.
This rant became much larger than it started out being.
I totally agree with you though man. I (read: my brother) only have about 1k pieces so it's pretty hard to make the kind of things they're making. They also used regular LEGO parts, which makes it seem kinda iffy. But yeah the first 2 basically look like LEGO sculptures, not bionicles, and I would have to agree that the third one is probably the coolest. The other 2 are lame.
Personally, I disagree. It WAS unfair for people who had the skill to make scaled down villains, but I love MOCs with incredible attention to detail. You'd probably hate this, but this is one of my favorites:

As you can see, it uses random details to create a unique feel. I don't feel like all MOCs should be like this, but it's nice once in a while. Nakken is easily the most creative. Akutan is nice because it IS a amalgamation of parts, and it forms a cohesive whole that looks both impressive and up close. I will admit it has too many parts, but I do like it's head. :P

I do like MOCs with detail (including the Exo Suit, which is actually a product now, although redone to be more stable), but as I said, it takes a certain level of finesse to pull it off right, and even then, the models are more of an "spectacle" thing (this applies more to Bionicle than System, since greebling and other intricacies can be achieved with smaller pieces).
My main point is that they shouldn't give
everybody a hope at winning when they have an apparent bias towards a certain type of MOC that not everybody is able to make (because of sheer amount of pieces). Either they should restrict the entrants, or give everybody a fair chance.
Bionicles are to play with
if they're fragile you can't play with em

I'm really, really happy that Bionicle is selling so well. I think LEGO was concerned that rebooting the franchise would kill a lot of the hype, but with the sales as they are, they might extend past their three-year plan!

There's also this video. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBi0Hx3RGoM)
Interesting Observations
- Mask Maker vs. Skull Grinder seems to come in a regular box, like the old titans.
- Red eye piece.
- Silver torsos. These are good because they appear to make the unused ball joints less apparent.
- New pieces to simulate bones. They look like they might be fragile, but I trust they'll stay strong through regular building.
- Skull Warrior and Skull Slicer seem to have inconsistent armoring and lopsided appearance (Skull Slicer's shoulder armor, for example), either to simulate a ragged-undead-warrior style of enemies... or somebody put the pieces on wrong. :P
- Skull Slicer's "friction gears" are bigger, possibly as a way to enable multiple arms not connected to the same joint.
- Skull Basher has horns coming out of his head, and seems to have a lot going on back at the gearbox (assuming it even uses a gearbox... I can't really tell because of the angle).
- Skull Scorpio doesn't appear to have a gear function, but rather, a more Technic-based one (with the aid of rubber bands) like the Lord of Skull Spiders (also the tiny bits of red on it really clash). There really aren't enough pictures of it to see what I want to see. This set could either be really awesome or really... err... unexceptional.
- Skull Grinder is A+ (them shoulders/gearbox :V).
- Ekimu also has a gearbox, meaning two in one set! :3
hyped for ekimu
also got Lewa, Tahu, and Pohatu. Planning on combining them a la original toa nuva somehow, for the nostalgia factor. I'll figure something out
If you live in the UK, you can probably get the summer sets right about now. Hopefully that means they'll be early in the US also.
Also, combiners.

YES PLEASE
That Ekimu-Grinder-Skorpio combiner is hella rad. Do want.
Instructions for the sets themselves, if anybody is curious (no combo instructions yet, though). (http://www.bzpower.com/story.php?ID=7749) Skull Basher's instructions are particularly fascinating, and make me want to see more sets that use Technic features rather than gearboxes in the future (although the gearboxes are great, diversity is always a good thing). Skull Scorpio's instructions look pretty complex for a set like that, though I'm not sure if the end result is as positive as I would like it to be (perhaps they still need to work on using CCBS for non-bipedal figures).
EDIT: Also some reviews.
They still looks like something I don't really want to spend my money on.
Call me when the make something like Axel or Brutaka again.
Also, unrelated to previous subject, but I found this fun little video. :P
2016 GET HYPED. (http://imgur.com/a/dLTqL)
I like Lewa, Tahu, and Pohatu the best (winged Tahu is majestic, and Pohatu has a rock on a chain as part of his weapon- simply simply quite awesome; all three have good-looking masks, but Lewa's just knocks everything else out of the park). Also, I love the use of the Vorox/Skrall piece. Nice to see it coming back- it has a very versatile shape. Also of note is that Lewa seems to be the only Toa without blue eyes.
The creatures by themselves are only mildly interesting.
Umarak is pretty cool, if a bit jumbled (what is that golden mask that comes with him? Doesn't look like the Mask of Control, and doesn't look like his own?). Also of note... are those BLUE 2-axles? :O

I'm fairly certain that it
is the Mask of Control. It seems that they've changed it a bit from the animation design. TBH, I liked it when it didn't have a trunk-nose-thing.
Stoked for this next wave. All the Toa look hella rad.
dude, is this the Nuvas?
Ha, I wish. The set names that have been leaked are calling them "Uniters" instead of "Masters," so maybe at the end of this wave they'll receive a power upgrade? Or maybe it's referring to how they can combine with their respective beasts?
Also: anyone else been watching the animations? My favorite moment was easily in episode 13. "A breeze? What are you, the Master of Air?"
AAAH I DID BUT I DIDN"T KNOW THERE WERE NEW ONES

If it is, it's changed pretty drastically. Aside from the "trunk," they also changed the sides (curved instead of angled), "eyebrows," everything about the "forehead," and other lines and ridges all across the mask.
Also, considering that there's still another wave for 2016, it's possible that this is another, vaguely similar mask, or a mutated/changed version of the Mask of Control.

I just watched that and I've fallen and I can't get up
Poster (http://i.imgur.com/08GHhru.jpg) + poorly translated set descriptions (http://brickset.com/article/17302/bionicle-2016-set-descriptions) = hype?
"with crystal wings sonic"
dying
In other news I just bought skull slicer. Has some good parts on him, love the blades, but his legs feel a little thin to me. I get that's what they were going for, but I'd rather have some armor or thickness on the thighs
but he's supposed to be
spooky
Also, I have all the hype for 2016. Gali's standing out as my favorite right now, while Pohatu (my favorite from this year) doesn't have much going for him. Let's hope the flail is way cooler than it looks right now.
Quality images get hyped! (http://brickset.com/sets/year-2016/theme-Bionicle)
- Changes made to Onua are a good improvement.
- Did they make Tahu's mask shorter, or is it just the angle making it look that way (or, perhaps, they made more of the mask grey instead of red)?
- It seems like they changed the color of transparent green Lewa uses (along with changing the eyes to blue). Nooooo (it's not terrible now, just not quite as good as before)...
- The orange parts on Gali are very... interesting. The mask looks a lot better now that it's not primarily blue.
- Pohatu looks weirdly thin and elongated, although it's probably caused by his weird pose. Though, it does appear that they may have made his neck longer, for some reason. Also, it seems like they made the brown used for his armor lighter, which I can't say I'm a fan of (also, he's missing his "metal arm")...
- Kopaka looks sturdy. Overall, very nice.
- Still don't like the Mask of Control, but Umarak is awesome.
- Creatures are slightly more interesting than Protectors. I hope they as good in practice, so to say.
- Lots of cool-looking arm and leg builds here. New parts look promising.

Other leaked images show that Umarak can also link up with at least Terak, Uxar, and Ikir. Needless to say I think we have the best villain in G2 so far.
eat your heart out LoSS
One BZPower user made a Mata Nui MOC. Spoilers: It's awesome. (http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/20920-the-big-kahuna/)
oh my everything
that's awesome
There's a BZPower 2016 livestream (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFTh9BqqVoE) going on right now. So far, I've learned that 2016 Lewa + Uxar is the Lewa we deserve.
but not the one we need
Quote from: NocturneOfShadow on December 12, 2015, 08:24:23 PMbut not the one we need
like hell it isn't
Anyway, VBBN has posted a review of Umarak on the Eurobricks forums (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=118265), as well as one for Gali (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=118314).

Summer 2016 preliminaries that seem to be legit based on set descriptions from the London Toy Fair.
Aha, I was wondering what happened to the all-but-confirmed Quake Beast when he was noticeably absent from the Winter lineup. Also, Umarak the Destroyer and a god-like trans-blue Ekimu. Sick. Get hype.
Oh also LEGO shared the first few seconds of footage for the Bionicle Netflix series on Facebook, coming...whenever. I get the feeling that reactions are going to be mixed, since this artstyle is quite unlike anything we've seen before.
EDIT: Hold on...Quake Beast's morning star weapon looks very familiar. Judging by the designs and weapons of the other two Beasts, anyone getting the feeling that we're seeing the Protectors?

I didn't think about that before; mutated Protectors would be pretty awesome... :P
I take back what I said about mixed reactions to the Journey to One series because Lewa's trailer came out today and it's sick.
EDIT: Get frickin' hype. (https://i.imgur.com/tdTDcM8.jpg)
Bzpower has brought us many quality images (http://www.bzpower.com/story.php?ID=8367). Things are looking... pretty interesting, to say the least. Overall, I'd say my opinions of Ekimu have greatly increased, and Umarak have slightly decreased (but only very slightly!).
Journey to One is... interesting, to say the least. I'd recommend checking out the prologue but it doesn't get any better.

saw that they were gone again on their facebook page. Not happy.
And they're not even releasing the Mask of Ultimate Power in any physical form! At all! Like, wtf?!
