I think everyone can agree that in general practice the key to success is listening to your consumers. And, if you look in the Request section of the forum more than half of the requested sheets have not been seen to, and forgotten in the midst of time. Put two and two together, and you have '"Fulfilling the Requests" Project, a sister project to the "Fixing the Sheets" Project, that focuses on listening to the fan base and making everyone happy with the sheets that the public want.

Here is a list of the sheets that need tending to. It's organised in alphabetical order by game name. Provided is the requester, and link to the respective thread. If the request is IN PROGRESS <- that tag will show up next to the request, and if there is no such tag, the request is UNFULFILLED. Note that requests that aren't specific enough to know what song they really are requesting aren't considered. If a song is requested more than once, only the earliest request will be counted.

I am inviting all prospective 'Fulfillment Arrangers' to join in "Fulfilling the Requests" Project. Chances are you're more than capable of helping out to improve NSM even more!

See some post on page 16 to find our currently useless Points Reward System.

Rules & Guidelines (READ BEFORE POSTING):

1. DO NOT POST REQUESTS IN THIS THREAD. Create a new topic in the Requests section and once I see it I'll add it to the list below.
2. If you can contribute, then by all means contribute.
3. I am not encouraging anyone who posts in threads older than, say, two months when trying to notify a requester of your arrangement. If a thread in Requests is less than two months old, by all means post and give the requester the link to the file. Otherwise a PM should suffice.
4. Please, if you notice anything incorrect or severely outdated, by all means point them out to me. I may be wrong, I may have reasons or I may be lazy.
5. The aim of Fulfilling the Sheets Project is to get all of the requested songs on the site. Hencethereforthwith, do not fulfill a request here unless you have the intention of it being submitted.

Fulfilled Requests (not on site):

[GCN] Animal Crossing "Harvest Festival" - The Deku Trombonist

[PS3] Folklore "The Forgotten Village" - The Deku Trombonist

[NDS] Hotel Dusk: Room 215 "Bright Crystal" - olimar12345

[GCN] The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker "Fairy Queen" - Bloop

[GCN] Pac-Man World 2 "Menu" - WiiMan96

[PC] Touhou: Mountain of Faith  "Native Faith" - The Deku Trombonist

Also, that character limit is annoying, right? Is there a possibility that it can be raised?

What about simply remove the "UNFULFILLED" tag, along with the colour code in every line? If we just assume that all requests are unfulfilled unless otherwise is stated, you may save a lot of characters.

I LOVE THAT SONG SO MUCH.  I remember playing AWL and constantly humming along to this song...  I hope someone arranges it!

Oh, and by the way, there's no Katamari Damacy song called "Hi Mr. Sunshine."  The person was probably talking about the main theme, which has the words "Hello, Mr. Sunshine!" in it.  The real name is Katamari on the Rock.

Many on the list, such as yours, are requests which were taken, but never completed or started in the first place. There are quite a few here that were supposed to be done by ALPRAS, but he quote-on-quote 'took' around 30 requests and the Mario, Zelda and Star Fox sections in the Fixing the Sheets Project. Crap, what am I doing here?  I have an update to do... after my Calc homework.  ::)

P.S.: WiiMan, if you want me to give some sort of "submission rewards" for achieving certain numbers of points, let me know.  (10 points = extra submission, 200 points = special update, etc.)  That might make the incentive even higher.  If you have ideas, please share!

In light of the ^^ post, I looked up the Pokémon Red/Blue End Theme to sound how it compared to DT's arrangement (as similar as can be, thank you!), and saw links to the FireRed/LeafGreen version of the End theme on YouTube. Looking up my request thread, I saw that I had mentioned that as a request in it. Could you please put Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen End Theme to the request list?

I have completed an Okami request, but I haven't yet posted a link to it, and the repetitive bass line that's supposed to resemble percussion sounds horrible. :P

Really? You'd do that? That's a terrific idea! I'll brainstorm some more ideas, and hopefully come up with a robust system for it soon! ;D (That is, once I properly update this thread... :P)

Out of curiosity, is it physically possible in the forums to have a 'badge' system that places a little image next to your post count highlighting your achievements in this thread? If not, that's fine. Just wondering. ;)

Hey, you have got the cleanest, most user friendly request threads out there. I'd say we have a harder time tolerating those saying 'gimme the song that plays when you're on the bridge' and expecting us to know what the hell they're talking about. :P I guess this is my opportunity to say thank you for keeping your request threads an arranger's dream! :D

I never saw anyone do Saturos' Battle Theme.
I did this a long time ago and submitted. Never got anywhere.
Here's Saturos Battle Theme from Golden Sun.

I see quite a few people have been arranging since my abrupt inactiveness. :P

Sorry, guys, I guess I've just found interest in other things and haven't really found the time for NSM. But if I'll ever contribute again, I'll make sure it's with this thread, which I think had quite some potential before I killed it.

After my exams, at the end of this week, I'll organise a few other things in my life, but within a few weeks I'll do a major update of this thread, including organising a system which means less work for me (and therefore more commitment). ;)

And I know that before I became inactive I did leave you all with many false promises, and I'm sorry for that too. I don't want to make above sound like another promise, because I really don't know what will happen which may prevent this from happening.

WiiMan apologises.

I like Bowser Jr.'s Fiery Flotilla and Space Storm from the second... But Fluffy Bluff and Starshine Beach are my seconds...

And I bet you're unveiling it the 10th because of dahans' birthday, aren't you? ;)

Sadly, that's all I could find that are on site. It's really depressing to see that not even half the requests got done. :( Oh well, at least this topic's getting some clean up now! :)

Sorry I sent this in a PM too, WiiMan xD But the PM has more info

You can add
  • Rainbow Road from Mario Kart Wii
  • Pollyanna from Mother
  • National Park from Pokemon Gold etc
  • Ending Theme from Pokemon Red etc
to the list of fulfilled requests. These are just sitting in my thread gathering dust. I might put them up in the next update though. And I think I might join pumpy_heart and attempt to focus on fulfilling requests for a little while.

Btw, the two requests for Final Destination and Final Destination 2 from SSBB are both referring to the same song.

It's great to see you back WiiMan. The new and improved 40,000 character limit on posts should help with this alot.

I did Duck Tales -The Moon last night.
I have a ton of time today, so I'll probably knock out the K.K. Slider songs. I'll probably do the versions that go in your house, not the airchecks. It wasn't specified which and the house version loops a whole lot better.
I saw in one of the threads that you linked to that "I Love You" was also requested. I might try that as well today.

Oh, ok. And in the PM I wrote we could expect some Pokémon stuff soon ;)
But there are a few things wrong in the Castle sheets though. One 4/4 measure was supposed to be in 3/4, there's one wrong note, and I really think this song needs an ending ;) Would you mind if I fixed it up a little?

And on that note, are there any songs that you people think would need fixing up?

Thanks a bunch for all your help, everyone! This makes my efforts a whole lot easier, which might mean I stick around a lot longer! ;)

Updated all requests up to and including page 3 (74 requests), edited most (I think) of the fulfilled requests list, and a few other things. Let me know what I've missed apart from requests from pages 1 and 2, which I will add within the next few days.

I know I've missed something, so please let me know of anything incorrect you may find.

ALSO: In regards to the "completed, but not on site yet" list, items will only edited if they are removed in the case of an update etc. If you want the status of the piece to change between the Finished, In Queue or Being Submitted status, please make a post here saying so. :)

I'll fix up the points system soon too.

Title: Re: "Fulfilling the Requests" Project
Post by: WiiMan96 on June 26, 2010, 05:49:52 AM
Eh. :P I've updated it anyway, as accurately as I could, based on recent site updates and those of which were requested. I'll keep a closer eye on it from now on.

I'll see if I can get an awards system going soon based on the points.

dahans: Yeah, I know what you mean, but it does give arrangers that extra incentive to arrange requests, especially if a rewards system is organised. :)

Also, Deku, if you're here, I've marked three requests as COMPLETED, NOT SUBMITTED: DekuTrombonist which are:

• Pokemon Gold / Silver - Game Corner
• Ocarina of Time - Forest Temple
• Folklore - The Forgotten Village

because I noticed you had posted them in the request threads as finished and you have them in your submissions thread. I assume you want those marked as finished?

Also, moved the points system to the bottom of the second post, and set a maximum number of IN PROGRESS for each member to 4.

:D OK! I accept the challange! I have already done Trickhouse and Battletower btw. I really wanted to do Floraroma town.
What do you think about that: We send each other PMs concerning our future plans. IMO it's useless to arrange something you have already done. I will do route 42 tomorrow (I think that was requested).

I remember seeing Route 42 somewhere in the requests.

Once I finish the requests and the rest of the D/P Towns and Cities that haven't been submitted (cause Canalave City and Twinleaf Town were taken... you may know the arranger of one of the latter), I will work on the rest of G/S Routes that havent been completed by then

Snowpoint City was hard to create, due to the echoing (it may sound simple, but it isn't theres some Csus4 chords with a major 7th on top)

Updated, everyone.

Oh, and, by the way...

Happy 1st Birthiversary Fulfilling the Requests Project!

Today marks the first birthiversary of this project. We've made some good progress, guys, keep it up! :D Let's see how much progress we can make for next year!

Birthiversary Promotion

For the next update (not this current promised one, the update after this one) we has a birthiversary celebrational promotion-type-thing! Any request submitted to the site in the update means EXTRA POINTS for submission! (you now get 3 points for the submission step, all other point distributions remain the same.) When the update is announced I'll post again as a reminder.

Sounds like fun!

Can you remove the "In Progress" tag next to Melty Monster Galaxy from SMG2 and Balrog's Theme from Cave Story? And while you're at it, you may as well get rid of my name next to Moonsong from Cave Story seeing as olimar12345 ended up submitting it before me. You can give him all the points.

not that it really matters(in terms of points), but I took and completed running hell from cave story.

Sure is!

Quote from: pumpy_heart on August 11, 2010, 01:03:21 PMThe one due Sunday?

Erm... it was due last update.  :-\
But I see the only one that took advantage of it was Deku (thanks a bunch, by the way!).

Besides, you submitted one request last update! :D However, I noticed that really the double point didn't achieve much in terms of getting rid of songs off the "finished" list, and there have been some complications for you in particular in regards to submissions lately, so I'm more than willing for it to run for this update as well, for everyone (to make it fair).

For the next update, any submissions of requested pieces shall earn the arranger double points!

Also...I'll update this eventually. :P

Requests I've finished:
Banjo Kazooie - Mumbo's Mountain
Legend of Zelda :A Link to The Past - Introduction
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! - Credits
Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Puzzle Plank Galaxy

And can you move these into the Finished list at the top:
Touhou - Mountain of Faith (Done by me btw)
Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Melty Monster Galaxy
Cave Story - Balrog's Theme

Edit: And here's another one done
Banjo Tooie - Atlantis

Is this ever going to get updated? I'd do it myself but, well you know, I can't :P

Everything I need to update written down. I'll do as much as I can now but whatever I can't do before bed will have to be postponed until Friday.

EDIT: Got down all new requests A-O, and some P-Z. No points or status of taken/completed requests have been updated as yet. Will try to do asap but cannot guarantee it will be this week.

See ya 'round, folks!

EDIT A DAY LATER: All new requests down. Points and finished status list to come sometime in the next couple days.

Everything updated bar requests submitted to the site. I'll go through those next. Point system has been updated otherwise. Feel free to continue posting here if you want to take /  have finished / have submitted a request so I may update accordingly. Title: Re: "Fulfilling the Requests" Project
Post by: Cobraroll on October 20, 2010, 09:45:03 AM
I don't think the points should be handed out before the songs are on site. With the infrequent updates we've had recently, links die and people forget to reupload or even submit. The fact that a song is arranged doesn't mean it's available.
Title: Re: "Fulfilling the Requests" Project
Post by: fabbemannen on October 20, 2010, 10:27:48 AM
Makes sense
No idea giving out points for something that isn't available. And it should be easier for the updaters

True, and on many levels I agree with you. However, the point of rewarding on these stages of simply finishing an arrangement is for quite the same reason; with the lack of updates (which I do believe will begin to lessen up soon) the arrangers who spent a large portion of their time arranging over 50 requests will take literally forever to get on the site. Essentially, they only get rewarded when the updaters say they can. :P

I see what you mean, but I also have my own reasoning for it. I do think we can both agree that the Points system is fundamentally flawed as is and should probably be revised.

EDIT: I am planning on contacting arrangers soon about old finished requests and in-progresses. If they don't plan on submitting / finishing them their points will be removed. As I mentioned I do want the arrangers to be rewarded for doing all the work but doing it all at once has its flaws. I don't know how much this will relieve this particular problem but it will help organise the OP and make its contents a little more relevant at the least.

Also, added a "Requests in Progress" Section to the first post for listing just that. Ordered by arranger name because I feel it's relevant to the specific arrangers more than any group as a whole.

Alrighty, all updated.

By the by, I changed the points system. Again. :P It's now simple and more fair for everyone. 1 point is awarded for each request making it on the site, and 3 points for every featured request taken within its time. Obviously the conversion of points wasn't completely accurate, but I did put thought into it and gave everyone more points than they should have for their troubles. I doubt I'll be changing it again.

I have the Title Screen from Donkey Kong Land 1 up. I also have the Boss theme from DKL 2 in my thread as well. I almost finished the title for DKL2 today. And if I could find a character select music for DKL 1, I'd do that too.

Yeah, I can't find any character select either. In addition, I don't think there's even a character select option in the game. :P Maybe the requester meant File Select (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVT4-ndfP64). Maybe just do that one, I'll change it in the OP to reflect it.

Forest Temple (http://www.mediafire.com/?ovhidyuoxnj)

It was on the first page of his thread. Considering the nature of the song, this is a pretty good arrangement.

Hmm. Apparently I haven't updated this in a while.

I'll update within the next few days, though it's likely there'll be a LOT of errors made and progress that I've missed. I'll try to update periodically from now on to avoid extra confusion in the future.

Quote from: DekuTrombonist on March 29, 2011, 04:30:36 AMWith all the Okami requests, are you looking for transcriptions of the originals or ones from the piano arranged soundtrack?

Holy crap, that was a while ago. xD Sorry 'bout that.

Yeah, I'm guessing they were looking for transcriptions of the originals, though I guess having a piano arranged soundtrack version on the side wouldn't hurt things so long as the original was there too. (That said, I highly doubt it's necessary given the work it'll take.)

this thread is not for requesting. make a new thread here (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?board=15.0)
Title: Re: "Fulfilling the Requests" Project

Yes, thank you for requesting, but this thread is just for arrangers to keep track of requests to make sure we get to them all eventually. If you want it to be noticed and considered for arrangement, please make a new topic in the Request board, preferably following these guidelines (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=1626.0). Welcome to NSM!

...I still haven't updated this, but I have a break coming up soon. Hopefully I can get this back on track then. xD

Damn. Sorry about that. xD

And the first two posts have reached the character limit, so the points system will hang out here a while until it gets sorted.

The "Fulfilling the Requests" Project Point Reward System

Every thread update a new 'Featured Request' will be chosen. Picked by hand to promote its popularity, make known the age of the request, or simply because of its difficulty (but not impossibility) to arrange, these requests earn you triple the regular points. But be quick! That song will only stay up here for a week before another is chosen. The Featured Request is highlighted in the Unfulfilled Requests list with a Ø and can also be found below.

Current Featured Request:

[PS3] Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots "Theme of Love" - neji277

The aim is for all requests to be added, but the character limit has stopped me from adding any more until I find a way around it. (Or these lovely people keep up doing their thang and arranging them! ;D ) If yours isn't up there, I probably have it written down and just haven't fit it in for now. But I'll try to get it up asap.

Pokémon Black/White
•N's Theme | AC | THREAD

Done! You can find it in my submissions thread under the title "N's Farewell."

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness/Time/Sky
•Farther Away | Cupuaku | THREAD
•I Don't Want To Say Goodbye | CrystalMask | THREAD
•Sacrifice | CrystalMask | THREAD

All three are done! You can find "Sacrifice" in my submissions thread under the title "Through the Sea of Time / Grovyle's Sacrifice". Also, "Farther Away" and "I Don't Want to Say Goodbye" are two different movements of the same song, so my arrangement under the title of "I Don't Want to Say Goodbye" in my submissions thread contains both of these requests.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red/Blue Rescue Team
•Run Away | Wii Tank | THREAD

Done! You can find it in my submissions thread under the same title as the one given here.

P.S. None of these are on-site yet. This is due to the fact that I do not yet have a .mus file for these arrangements, as I arrange primarily with Sibelius. I will get around to *attempting* to re-work these in Finale Notepad eventually.

So quite frankly this topic is genius. Here’s what I came up with (THIS INCLUDES ALL POSTS IN THIS TOPIC FROM AUGUST 7th AND ON). I just went off of what you had posted, so I didn’t look up any new requests that should be added. Hopefully these changes will save some characters, especially with all the requesters who haven’t looked at their topic in years. Any necessary changes that crossed into two sections (requests in progress vs. unfulfilled requests) were mentioned twice, since they appeared twice in your posts. I could update with some new requests if you’d like but I don’t really know where in the list of threads you stopped. Anyhow,

Requests in Progress:

Inactivity
ALPRAS has not been active since November 2010

Completed
Donkey Kong Country Returns “Rocket Barrel  1” has been completed

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time “King Dodongo & Volvagia Battle” has been completed

Dropped Requests
*Message has been sent to clanker37 for response on Banjo-Tooie “Hall of the Zombie King”*

dahans is no longer doing "Greek Garden" (however he IS in progress for SMG2 "Special One")

*Message has been sent to The Deku Trombonist on Super Mario Galaxy 2 “Credits”*

JDMEK5 is no longer doing Epic Mickey “Oswald’s Theme” (fingerz is though)

*Message has been sent to olimar12345 for response on all songs (except Jet Force Gemini and Bright Crystal)*

pumpy_heart is no longer doing Final Fantasy Tactics Advance: "Undefeated Heart" or Street Fighter 2 "Cammy's Stage"

*Message has been sent to WiiMan96 about “Cursed Shinshu Field”

Thank you so much! :D I had most of these written down somewhere but because of the gap between updates I listed some things twice and others not at all. xD So this makes my job infinitely easier! Thanks!

I'll update the posts this weekend (hopefully).

And I thought I might clear up some things you mentioned:

  • A lot of sheets members requested and later found elsewhere on the web were kept intentionally. I though that if one was to request a sheet here and it was a popular enough sheet to be found elsewhere, we should have our own version anyway. :)
  • Same goes for inactive requesters. If they requested it, it's highly likely a bunch of other shy people were looking for it and gave up.
  • YES! I GOT SOMEONE! xD But you want me to remove it? I'm sorry Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that. (I can't remember exactly, but I think it was in a post in another unrelated thread and I couldn't be bothered getting the link. :P It was a useless post in terms of other info, anywho. Sorry 'bout that Dave.
  • Commander 6 is Composer #40's arranger name. He prefers to go by that on the site. (But I'll see where it's used and change it for clarity if necessary.)

That said, you providing this information now allows me to better see how to organise things and rethink the aforementioned reasons behind my decisions. If you have any thoughts, please!

Quote from: WiiMan96 on August 18, 2011, 11:56:43 PMThank you so much!

Thanks again! I've got most other requests sorted, I just need the room now, which should hopefully come with this update! :D

EDIT: And no, I probably won't be arranging it soon. xD I might pick it up again later though if no one takes it before then.

Ok all your points make sense.

I... still disagree with the second one though (and no it's not just because that part of my post took the longest to create :P)

If we've had one person request a song, then they left the site and never came back... even three years later, it seems like we would just remove it. I can understand keeping it if a bunch of users followed up with the request hoping for its creation, but the majority of these got no response and the requester just left. This project will certainly decrease how many requests end up that way, but for threads that ancient, it just seems more realistic to remove them.

If it makes you feel better, I could even just copy/paste the requests from those years ago into a new thread, see if anyone still wants to see sheets created, and work from there. Eventually this should = less work for WiiMan!
Title: Re: "Fulfilling the Requests" Project
Post by: WiiMan96 on August 19, 2011, 05:20:19 PM
Fair enough. How about sorting the requests in some sort of priority order (categories 1, 2, 3 etc.) based on its popularity and age in this thread? That would both keep the requests available, keep everything in one place, lessen the strain of the number of requests on arrangers and help arrangers to attack the list with some sort of plan or order. (And your great work doesn't go to any waste :P )
Title: Re: "Fulfilling the Requests" Project

Sounds like a plan. Oh and I meant to say kudos for the creation of the project. It really was a good idea. It helps arrangers find an easy list of requests and helps guests see that their never-ending requests have been noticed :)

k Wiiman. "reviving the requests" has been posted. You can now delete all the requests from users i posted in the "inactivity" section of my recent post, to make room for newer ones.
Title: Re: "Fulfilling the Requests" Project

Alrighty, so left to do:

  • Remove uploaded sheets on Bloop's list and add corresponding points.
  • Remove "Reviving the Requests" requests from the list
  • Add a LOT more new requests.
  • Probably some other things I forgot.

Ie. in the grand scheme of things I haven't achieved much. :P

In regards to the "Reviving the Sheets" thread (and now in addition the facebook requests thread), this whole inter-thread, inter-user thing might get unwieldy quite quickly if some communication isn't put in place. We should probably put in some sort of system for organising how this'll work. :)

Also, couple quick things with the list you gave me:

  • DrP has listed King Dodongo & Volvagia Battle as being on the site, but I can't find it on there.
  • Dropped in-progress by dahans - Greek Garden? WHAT THE POOP FLAKES (if you meant Green Garden from Bomberman 64 I never had him listed as having claimed it anyway, so no problems there).

The Reviving thread is supposed to house requests made by members not active this year because I'm running out of room in this one.

I've had thoughts about that too. I still stand by the creation of the topic, but the thing we will need to keep track of is moving sheets (as people show interest) back to your project. That's about all that needs to happen. Otherwise it's more beneficial than not to keep these requests out of the clutter of recent and popular requests.

They're not in the game, they were themes recorded by the orchestra but not used in the game.

Like the epic Blue Grass Galaxy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=De-YKfOTQjE), World 7 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzkY_z8k4RQ&feature=related) and World 8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFU8TXh_c1M&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL) were never used in the game.

Let's see, I can't count, I'll just list the soundtracks of video games that I have:

Animal Crossing Wild World (selections, maybe about 20)
Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days
Kingdom Hearts
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
Mario and Luigi RPG Sound Selection
Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time
Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Pokemon Black and White
Pokemon Colosseum
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl
Pokemon Emerald (tracks that aren't in Ruby and Sapphire)
Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen
Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver (plus GB Sounds tracks, so basically also the original GSC)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team/Red Rescue Team
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire
Pokemon Stadium
Professor Layton and the Curious Village
Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box
Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2

That might make over 1000 songs all by itself, my whole iPod is about 2,200 or so

I'll do the Final Fantasy IV Epilogue. Can probably do it all tonight. I'll also take Highwind takes to the Skies from Final Fantasy VII.
Will try to knock some of these out of here to clean up and make room.

Edit: Correction, Final Fantasy IV Epilogue is in my thread. And Highwind Takes to the Skies as well.
I'll try to find some more to do now.

Edit3: I'll start with the Title Screen from Animal Crossing: Wild World. I'll also do both BK songs. Just trying to make a lot of room in the thread and finally fulfill these requests. Might do Christmas Eve from Animal Crossing if I finish all these. Really want to tackle the smaller sections to clear the most room.

So in regards to the problems with the limitations of forum posts (static information, character limits etc.), I've been thinking about a permanent solution. While the Reviving the Requests thread is a good idea in sorting things in priority order and freeing up space here, a strong line of communication needs to be kept between the threads; and with all the redundant, repeated information and the extra time and effort that will follow from maintaining this communication, it's likely that things will become disorganised (or, at least, a little more than usual :P ) and this will be abandoned for lost hope before long.

I was thinking of moving the list itself completely out of the forums. That is, either putting it in a client database (like Access for exportation into Excel, PDF etc.) or into a web database (with automation of applying for requests, reporting them as completed etc.) I have some experience in working with both so that's not a problem, but I'm wondering what you guys would most like to work with. As far as I see it:

  • Keeping it in the forums is the easy way out, but it limits its capabilities and will get abandoned fast.
  • Putting it into a database will take more work to start with, but with some more automated processes will allow it to become more relevant and updated in the future.

And as for which type of database if we're to go that way:

  • The web database creates the opportunity to allow arrangers to update things by themselves; instead of posting here a thousand times poking and prodding me to do stuff, one would (hypothetically) simply be able to fill out a form and do things related to them. I can get some dodgy free web hosting and set up a system where you can go to a website, view the requests, apply to take one (or remove one) and do several actions with an automated backend.
  • The client database won't have user interaction and will need to be updated solely by me - but still eliminates the problem of the word limit and the resulting clutter and can be downloaded in multiple formats.

I've put up a poll to collect your opinions.

And Mr. Llama, I appreciate all of your hard work and would like it if you could help me sort all the arrangements into some priority categories if we go the database way.

...and yes, once we decide I'll update. xD

I wouldn't be able to connect to NSM's database (that would be hacking, and asking permission to access it would give me access to ALL data = not good for security :P ), but I'll see if I can create a system that reads the front page for the sheets in updates. No guarantees, though. :)

I only said so because you've done all that work on the Reviving the Requests. I honestly don't mind if you don't, I just thought you'd like some input into the work you've done previously. AND DON'T 'YOU THE BOSS' ME THAT'S FEEDING MY EGO AND THAT'S NOT GOOD

Lol, I also happen to be using a certain OS named after a (significantly colder) cat, but I have access to a Windows computer. (Pun may or may not be intended.) I'd be able to convert it to Excel, .pdf, and .txt, but as you say, the file sharing will get unwieldy quickly.

Now that the majority's voted for the web database, I'm wondering why the person who voted for the thread voted so. I mean that sincerely - it would be nice to get a different perspective. I'll leave this poll up for another 12 hours or so anyway.

And Mr. Llama, I appreciate all of your hard work and would like it if you could help me sort all the arrangements into some priority categories if we go the database way.

...and yes, once we decide I'll update. xD

Coincidentally, today was my last day of school for the term. I now have two weeks to work on this, so I'll get right to it! I'll pump out a simple version first that just displays all the requests, then I'll add the other promised features progressively (hopefully all over these two weeks).

GLAD YOU'RE AS EXCITED AS I AM :D

And if you/anyone wants to contribute, I'll be sure to design a way to do so while I'm doing all this. ;D

I can work on it too, just show me where/how, and make a checklist of added sheets so we don't get lost, unless you want to just descend down your current list.

Yay, I've neglected this again!

My current hope is to have something up and running by New Years. At that point though it'll probably just display requests and their status without any way for users to update anything. But hosting's been secured anyway and a database has been established, so it currently depends on how much I procrastinate.  :P

I probably won't update the thread again until the website's running. Don't expect anything new in the front post for a while!

Sorry about the wait, anywho.

The website is up! (http://nsmproject.site40.net/) It's far from finished, but I'm going away and won't be back until next year. I might as well just put up a slightly working version now. If you have any queries, within the next few hours is the perfect time!

It's not too useful yet, but it's something.

Here's a basic 'beginner's guide' to the site anyway:
  • When registering, use your NSM Forums username EXACTLY as it appears on the forums. This is integral to the proper functioning of the website. (If you get this wrong anyway I'm happy to change your username for you.) Also, there's nothing for requesters on there. There's no need to make an account as it is an arranger's tool. Please continue posting your requests in the Requests board as usual.
  • Requests are listed on the home page, categorised by whether they are Unfulfilled, In Progress, Finished, or Fulfilled. (There's only a very limited amount on there now, currently whatever was ready to update in the thread around August but wasn't is in the database now.)
  • If you're an arranger, register an account on the site to be able to claim requests. Currently you're unable to mark one of your claimed requests as finished or advanced a finished one to fulfilled (or drop requests for that matter), but this is planned for when I get back. Please bear with me!
  • Those who wish to update the database with the information from this thread's OP ("Request Managers" if you want a spiffy title) can apply by posting below. I'm only looking for one at the moment but I'm sure that will change in the near future. Either way, please make an account as your arranger's account is 'upgraded' to a manager's account manually by me.
  • There are many known bugs and excluded features, but please post here or PM me if you have any troubles with them, your account, or the use of the website. Also feel free to let me know any general design improvements I can make!

I think that's about it. Go nuts, I guess. But not too nuts. That might break things.

Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year, everyone!

Title: Re: "Fulfilling the Requests" Project

Fulfilled means that the arrangement is on the site. If it's only Finished, it has not been submitted yet but has been completed.
Title: Re: "Fulfilling the Requests" Project
Post by: Winter on December 23, 2011, 10:56:08 PM
How about Arranged, and Uploaded?

Fulfilled could easily mean that the request has been fulfilled (arranged) and finishes could easily be interpreted as everything is done and it is on the site (No more steps to be made.

'Arranged', and 'Uploaded' seem to work smoother.

And I'd be happy to take on that 'spiffy title'. Just have to wait till the site is up again ;)

Since you said it was integral to the proper functioning of the website, I figured it would be important, but I planned on using Winter. Why exactly is it integral, just to keep track of who's who, or is there a mechanic that corresponds with our forums?
Title: Re: "Fulfilling the Requests" Project
Post by: WiiMan96 on December 23, 2011, 11:15:43 PM
When requests are entered, the requester name (and if applicable, the name of the arranger) links to your login account so that you can edit requests pertaining to you. For example, if you wish to update a request to say that it's been on the site after being in progress, you'll only be able to do so if your login name exactly matches the name of the arranger.

So if a request is entered as being taken by Winter, for example, and your login is winterkid09, it won't make the connection.

That said, I could manually change all instances of Winter in the database to winterkid09 if I really wanted to. (Hence why it was an option.)
Title: Re: "Fulfilling the Requests" Project
Post by: Winter on December 24, 2011, 12:44:29 AM
So this site is only for arrangers that are taking requests? You should have an updater profile in there somewhere where I can change any instance of a sheet to uploaded when I do actually upload it. Unless i can just leave it to all of you to take care of that.

I'm saying this because I won't particularly be taking any requests, and it sounds like I'd have no use on this site.
Title: Re: "Fulfilling the Requests" Project
Post by: WiiMan96 on December 24, 2011, 04:23:24 AM
I was thinking something along those lines! Absolutely. Originally I guessed I'd leave it up to the arrangers to mark it as being uploaded but if you'd like to do this it seems like a much more efficient process. Thanks and I'll get on that next year soon enough.

It's because each arranger is only allowed to submit 3 sheets per submission period. If one were to, for example, complete 4 requests, then assuming they submit only fulfilled requests they will have 1 sheet that is not being submitted.

of course there's also the possibility that they submit sheets that were not requests.

Site update:

  • Changed status names. "Finished" is now "arranged" and "fulfilled" is now "uploaded" to prevent confusion.
  • Added the ability for arrangers to drop claimed requests and to advance requests from "in progress" to the "arranged" status.
  • Made some changes to layout to prevent the site looking silly on larger resolution screens.
  • Fixed some error detection in the register form that allowed the confirmation password to be different from the original.
  • To save table space, clicking on the piece name now takes you to the audio file, and clicking on the requester takes you to the relevant thread.

Also...

  • Winter is now our spiffily-titled "Request Manager"! This means he'll be in charge of slowly adding those pesky unfulfilled requests from this thread onto the website and be able to mark arranged requests as uploaded after an update. Obviously this is a huge workload so I'm willing to add a second Request Manager. (if spitllama is interested, then congrats!)

So Winter, if you ever have a chance, feel free to log in and add some unfulfilled requests up there and let me know of which ones you've done so I can remove it from OP. You can add a new request from the sidebar.  :) I've got the in-progress and finished ones for now.

And if anyone knows of a requests that they have fulfilled and uploaded that is currently not on the Fulfilling the Requests site, please make a post with a list of them so this can be fixed accordingly (if at all possible, please include the link to the thread you got the request from to make our job easier!).

Have fun everyone!

very nice. thank you for your hard work, wiiman.

do you have plans to make it so that when we advance a sheet that we don't go back to the "Unfulfilled" list? It's very frustrating to have to go back to "In Progress" every time.

also, I think Winter could mention the site in the news at the top to notify arrangers of it's existence.

Yeah, I've found that quite annoying as well. There are plans to fix it (because seemingly doing ANYTHING on that page makes it revert back to unfulfilled) which involve not having the whole page reload when you click advance. With any luck it should be in the next update.   ;D

Site update:

  • Claiming, dropping, and advancing requests now does not require a refresh in the page (meaning less loading times and allowing you to stay on the section you were browsing). Suggested by Shadoninja.
  • Sorting requests in the list now works properly. Just click the headings to sort them!
  • The requests remaining number in the sidebar is now semi-dynamic - it updates whenever an action is carried out. (So if one was to claim a request, the number will update without a page refresh.)
  • Added a silly looking header for no good reason.
  • Box shadow! ;D

Please continue to notify me of any suggestions you may have or bugs you encounter.

Problem's gone. Thanks.

EDIT: Do you think it'd be a good idea to have the thread link open in another tab like the audio file? Or else it's a lot of clicking forward and back buttons for arrangers searching around.

Also, the "edit" messages are still displayed

DOUBLE EDIT: How do you delete entire requests? Apparently there got to be two Castelvania "Crystal Teardrop"s somehow

Site Update:

  • Added a 'Delete' button for requests. (Request Managers only!)
  • Links to the thread now appear in a new tab.
  • Minor performance improvements.

There you go. ;)

Also, I deleted that request for you to test that it worked. (It does) xD

Site update:

  • Terms of use when registering are now hidden by default.
  • Notes for a request now appear by hovering over the box. Now large notes are out of the way and are even encouraged!
  • Fixed an issue where one could register without entering any information. (stoopid)
  • Small code enhancements.

Alright, I'll stop for a while. xD

Earthbound's "Saturn Valley" links to the wrong song.

Harvest Moon's "Fall", "Let's Choose A Name", and "Summer" all link to the wrong song.

The Kirby Squeak Squad thread requested by Piano_Pika doesn't exist? I wanted to see if they intended for the original or brawl version(if there's any difference)
Title: Re: "Fulfilling the Requests" Project

All fixed except for the Kirby thread. Apparently it doesn't exist. xD Erm, probably do the original version I'd say.

EDIT: Yeah, the original. If it has said brawl, Brawl would be in the game name and Squeak Squad incorporated into the piece name. Thanks for letting me know about these errors. :)

Also I'd like to keep the Squeak Squad one on there- the Brawl Version, if that's ok. I like the song :P

Kinda feel stupid for not seeing this before, but I have a completed sheet for Secret Island from Kirby's Epic Yarn. The only problem is that the MUS needs some finishing touches that I can't do in Finale Notepad, so I'll need someone to clean that up.
I know we all really want to see this arrangement on the site, so could someone please stop by my arrangements thread and finish the MUS? Thanks. :)

EDIT: On an unrelated note, I was just looking through the SSBB requests and noticed a song called "Bowser's Neon Castle" which 1) isn't an actual song in the game and 2) has a broken link. Can you look into this?

Hello there! You caught us at a great time. We're in the process of moving all these requests in the thread to our new site (http://nsmproject.site40.net/) so much of the original post is out of date.

I'll update the request you finished on this site. And sorry, I can't help you with the touch-ups. :)

Also, I checked that out, and yes it appears the requester deleted the thread. Oh well. xD It also looks like 'Bowser's Neon Castle' is the soundtrack name for the Super Mario World Castle Theme, and because soundtrack names are spiffy, I think maybe leave it as-is.

Anywho, welcome! ;D

Mario Party 2 - Western Land
Request Thread (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=3514.0)
Arranger Thread (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=1915.0)

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story - Staff Credits
Arranger Thread (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=2562.0)

I think maybe we could do something about duplicate requests.

I am getting extremely lost trying to add sheets to the database. It seems as if the ones put on your site went in alphebetical order, but many were skipped. I can't keep track of it or help. i'll just be there to check after an update. I'd like to hear from whoever is adding them to the site, I'm very lost as to how they are added.
Title: Re: "Fulfilling the Requests" Project
Post by: spitllama on January 22, 2012, 10:29:35 AM
I've been adding them to the site, moving from the top of the "unfulfilled" section down to the bottom. Any that seem randomly placed  like one random request in the S's (when I haven't even got there yet) is probably because WiiMan added 30 requests to start with from random places of the unfulfilled list, not necessarily alphabetically.

If I skipped any it would have been because the original thread was deleted by the original requester, they were actually already arranged (and moved into the "arranged" section), or they were mine and I removed them.

Is there any way that the register and log in forms could be separated? I have firefox set so that it enters in the log in information for me without me typing it in.

With the current way it's done, the log in information appears in the register boxes but not in the User Login forms.

Title: Re: "Fulfilling the Requests" Project
Post by: WiiMan96 on January 24, 2012, 07:07:35 PM
Yessir. My first unread request is - "Battle! Champion" Pokemon Black and White [NDS] - which is on page 7 if your topics-per-page setting is default, so I guess that topic and after that would not have been added. (Any old, added requests that have had replies to them I'm unaware of, so I guess just add them all and delete the irrelevant one if that happens.)

So, uh... who wants another mammoth task? :P I guess me doing it would be less hassle, but if there's any volunteers I can spend more time working on the site itself (which seems to break quite regularly).

Ok. I didn't want to advance it into "in progress" since you said you were going to finish the Arrangement Project first, but it's fixed. You can always create an account and advance songs yourself if you want too.

Make an account and find the song. If the request is listed as unfulfilled, click claim to advance it to in progreas. Once you complete it, click advance to move it to the finished section. When it's been submitted, click on site to move it to submitted.

... You just post it in your submissions thread that you did it. And then PM the requester or post in the original thread about its completion.  ??? It's the same as always.

This thread is just to keep track of pre-existing requests.

Site update:

  • The box at the right now displays login by default (as opposed to register), and register has been moved to a separate page.
  • Comments on a request now pay attention to line breaks. (woot enter key works now)

Sorry about the inactivity, I should be able to make some more improvements over the next week hopefully!

That's why making it a Wiki was great though. I've been editing the Wiki myself abit as I've worked on a few things in the past few days. It's not a one-man job as with being a Request Janitor.

Is there a way we could integrate the site into each request here? Maybe have separate pages that we could link on the first posts or something.

I've got a week or two of free time, so let me know what you guys want with this. I can do some updates to improve it and go through and add the newer requests if you want. Might take a request or two as well.

Feel free to either list improvement to the site or suggest another way to deal with it. Persevere or no?

No no, you've done a great job with this! The site was more of an excuse to flex some programming muscles anyway. Obviously the site would be more capable given some work, but it being detached completely from the forum is a horribly distracting system for everyone concerned. This system looks like it has potential :)

Doing some concept work for a new request system.

New Topic:

Console: No more fiddling with this when the console id is static. This could be expanded for the console name.
Game: As you type there will be a list of games that have been already requested and you can select from that.

No more Message Icons access for users since they don't need to mess with that. That would be changed solely by the moderator(s).

It's possible to mod the forum.
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/

I would learn how if I can't find pre-existing mods that are similar.

I'm starting to think that forums are not the best place to host requests.

The FtR website (http://nsmproject.site40.net/index.php) is a great base model for what I'd like to see.

I'd like to see requests in a completely sortable list. One where you can sort alphabetically by Console, Game, or Song and be able to filter out consoles. If one just wanted to see requests for SNES and DS they should be able to filter the other consoles out.

Requests, Submissions, In-Progress, and Sheets on the site would all be put into a single database. This would be done in such a way that if there's an active request and someone submits a song or it gets accepted and put on the site, that request is automatically fulfilled. Also, if someone requests a song that is already on the site it won't be added and the user will be notified as such.

If we can get a working database, the submission process could be made easier. Instead of having to copy and paste from your arrangement thread, you can press a button and zip that arrangement over to the submissions page.

Each request will listed individually as a single song, no more "multiple songs" listings. This will make it easier to see what has already been requested. It won't be impossible to request multiple songs, however. There could be a form that one can fill out. There would be a button to add more forms. then one just selects the console from a dropdown, put in the title of the game and song, and insert or be able to search for the youtube link. If they're all from the same game there would be a checkbox that would automatically fill the console and game boxes. There would be a limit of say 5 or so.

Each game will have it's own page with relevant information such as the developer(s), publisher(s), release dates, and composers and arrangers. There would also be the official soundtrack list if it has one with alternate titles and a youtube link for ease of use. There could be a request button on the songs with a limit to prevent spamming. The page would also list active requests, submitted sheets, in-progress, and all of the songs that are on the site.

Arrangers will be able to click a button to claim a song and then it will be displayed on their profile or some related page so that they can easily see all of the songs they should be working on.

Sounds good (I love organisation :P), but I'm wondering where and how discussions would take place?

Maybe a comments section. There should be a way to segregate discussions for every sheet.

So I checked the website and found 3 requests made by me that are fulfilled, but there they are listed as unfulfilled.
Can I register and correct it myself or someone else does it?

Here they are, just in case:

Mega Man Maverick Hunter X - "Zero's Sacrifice": Done by DekuTrombonist (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=3547.0) (Also listed in the arranged section)
Nintendo 3DS - "Swapnote Theme": Done by Shado (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=4056.0)
Wario Land: Shake It! - "Gurgle Gulch": Done by fingerz (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=3795.0)

EDIT: And also, Deku arranged "Arctic Valley" from Bomberman Tournament, right?

No worries, I think I fixed it. I registered and claimed those songs and then moved them to the "arranged" section. The problem now is that it says I arranged the songs...  :-\
