The three eighth notes are all in separate layers, so they don't automatically "conjoin" together like they would if they were on the same layer.

There's a third layer in that measure.
I see, but we should still fix that visually. It looks like the A's can go in the same later to make octaves like the notes before. You'll also need to adjust the ties so they don't intersect the whole notes. Lemme know if you need help with that!

Any reason the tempo is half=108 when it's in 4/4?
not a fan of the 2nd layer in m39-40. I'd say merge it with layer one and hold it the whole way. It just sounds unnatural and takes away from the general feel of the song imo.

I was originally considering putting this in cut time because of its high tempo, but ended up only putting the half-note marker as a sort of compromise? Idk, I guess I was being pretty indecisive.

Go one or the other, but not both. I'd say put it was q=whatever because that fits the 4/4 you have. Don't forget about the other thing I said tho
